  1. '...So I wondered if there is any reason I couldn't just fit a 820mm high toilet frame within the cupboard unit?...' Vij.... don't put your mum's toilet in a cupboard! Stuff of nightmares that mate, nightmares.
  2. Can't get the staff these days sir....
  3. Glad to see progress - it's always a relief. Now, make sure you get the order right - estimating breakage is a difficult one. So work out how - when you are unexpectedly caught short (as it were) you are going to obtain ' just a few , please '
  4. Oh dear because .....?
  5. Is that all you @SteamyTea do in a bathroom? We .... read doze think drink answer email surf BuildHub be sensibly merry do our online banking do our weekly shopping order from Aldi (Vorsprung Durch Einkaufen !) listen to podcasts and the radio waterboard grandchildren read them stories duck and dive to very loud music too.
  6. Bang on. Six years in to our build, several things like that going on in this house right now. I have a saying to whoever will listen when I'm overloaded ( which is mostly) - runs like this At the moment, there are several booms stuck up my @rse to help me sweep up as well as do everything else. If you are going to put another one up there, I can't guarantee it won't fall out.
  7. No. But we are in that group of people who , because of our individual experience, can't un-see stuff. Your bathroom wouldn't be my style choice, so my examination was cursory. Had we wanted large tiles of the sort you had, I'd have been all over it like a cheap suit. And so just as commited to it as you are.
  8. There's nothing wrong with it. Assuming you can stretch to reach round behind you for the loo roll . Or you don't mind wet loo roll. Cos that's where my crew would store it. Specially with the sink full of water.
  9. That's the exact feedback we had. So, before the Decision Notice was issued, we resubmitted a Design Amendment addressing the issue. Painful, I growl still, a bit, at the compromise required. We lost the equivalent of two full rooms. But we have a house. Can't take a joke? Don't self build.
  10. No need to assume. Look up your LPAs Enforcement Policy. And then look at Enforcement Notices and subsequent Appeals. Dates, and thus time lags, will become clear.
  11. Perhaps 'appeared to be' might have been a better phrase.
  12. Welcome. Tempted to ask where, but maybe that would be unwise: ManCave, LogCabin ? Pics? Plans? We're very nosey......
  13. and There's your clear agenda. Address those three issues. The wall issue, I suspect, might not be as important as you appear to think.
  14. Get it out of the house as soon as possible.
  15. It's not one of my choosing.@Russell griffiths made me change my screen name because he told me to '... toughen up buttercup... 'I felt so wounded, devastated, shattered, traumatised that I had to.... His fault, not mine.
  16. I had you down as a clean livin' kinda guy. Jus' shows how wrong I can be.
  17. Is an architect appropriate at this stage of your project? Will a Planning Consultant do? Do you have to brief an architect? Will an Architectural Technician do? Consider doing some of the designing yourself or perhaps a CAD Technician Is an architect working for a house manufacturer appropriate for your build? Research suitable architects: websites, relevant journals Make a long-list of possible companies Check each architects credentials here Is the architect bankrupt? Check the architects Indemnity Insurance Make initial contact; listen Ask for examples of existing work; visit / drive by Company brochure Work up a brief. Consider budget and don’t forget VAT Will the architect of choice actually do the work? Does ecology come into the mix somewhere? Time scales. Refine your brief, and write up. One side of A5. Send it to the architect in advance of your meeting List the questions you want to ask, and refer to the list during the meeting Meeting: has the architect read the brief? Does the architect listen? Is the architect merely an “Educated Artist”? What does the architect think of as the scope of his / her work? Clarity about Extras and Incidentals Does the chemistry work? Ask for references. Visit / ring/ talk to them Decide
  18. No. Here's our architect's pricing structure. And here's what I hope will be a useful checklist... a starting point for your own ideas. Good luck.
  19. No. But be careful, as yo mamma say.....
  20. I haven't given the garden much thought, apart from the regulatory requirements of SUDS. So our thoughts are turning to planning the garden. Anyone used a free garden planner that they would recommend? Thanks.
  21. Hi, welcome. I am sure you will have lots of questions : thats why we have lots of sub-sections in the forum - its best to ask questions in the relevant forum because it helps people make sense of tha mass of information there is. To answer some of your questions here quickly: if the land is not identifiably yours, you won't get a mortgage on it - so get it changed to yours on the land registry tax liability -- hmm, in relation to what ? ring your planning office and ask. In general, it is advisable to appoint a planner to work for you. It is also essential that in everything you do in relation to the build that you follow a due diligence process, without fail. We're not experts who have the relevant PPI, just interested, helpful amateurs. ( Apart from @Onoff who knows everything ?.)
