  1. Trestles stacked two high are handy for inside as the height is easy to adjust up and down.
  2. Is it your own scaffolding and do you intend to keep a box or two?? You could oil a section on the back and let it sit for a year and see the difference between a section oiled up and the front. Pick the winner between the two.
  3. They lasted 1 hole on my porcelain tiles. Had to go for a proper bit in the end which went through it in no time.
  4. Depends on the tile. A normal drill bit won't even mark a porcelain tile. I had to buy a 6mm diamond tip bit for mine. For ceramic an ordinary masonry bit will be fine.
  5. Yeah true on a small island he couldn't take a chance, its just the rest of us that have to watch out esp I would say buying from eBay .
  6. Welcome. That will be a very nice looking house when finished.
  7. It depends on the quality of your lead as well. Some lead you buy isn't exactly 100% lead and as its milled god knows what is mixed into it. When you are pricing around and most rolls are £50+ and some guy gives you a price about £25 then chances are it's not the good stuff. I have always seen it coated with oil on any site I was on. I done mine but it still stained a few tiles.
  8. I have 2 that have warped about 2-3mm at the top. Door still opens and closes so its not worth the time and effort to fix yet. It's just something that happens and I can live with it. Each new door and a joiner to hang one will be approx £150 so unless it's really really annoying you I would let it be.
  9. Did you put patination oil on the lead up on the skews. Stops the staining of the tiles.
  10. One too many beer and kebabs will do that.
  11. Sitting down on the job watching them other two guys do the work.
  12. Everyone does the same jack, my few weeks off lasted near 6 months.
  13. Put a hose on it to clear the dirt that is between the lid and the case. Two wall ties down in the slots, twist so they go under the lid and pull up.
  14. 8 inch flues are the standard size used here and as long as it's been installed correct it will draw fine. Dee's house is in a particularly windy spot so he will be fine.
  15. The clay liner will last far longer than a flexible steel one. As long as it's being filled round properly and all the flues jointed it will be fine. Do a smoke test to see if there are any leaks. Put the plate on the bottom with the adaptor to suit your stove and fire away.
  16. You could take all your newts on a holiday to.
  17. Not a chance dee. Cocktails are too cheap and way to easy drunk here. Can't take it with you dee so I like a holiday every year, work hard all year so I like to put the speedos on and relax for 2 weeks.
  18. I done it a bit different. The goal at the end was by me doing a lot of the work myself we would save upwards of £10,000 and use this towards a holiday. Had loads of moments when it seemed like it would never end but it did and once we got finished and moved in we had saved enough to go to Florida for 3 weeks and done everything and ate like pigs or Americans if you want. Set the goal of something like this if you are doing a good amount of work as it does get you down at times but thought of a holiday did help me get through it.
  19. You have all the major work beat now so line up the next trades and knock the jobs of one by one. Take your time with each trade explaining how important it is you don't want 100mm holes in the walls before they start. Holes in walls are the last resort not first.
  20. Is there no way they would allow a custom built bat box made to suit their requirements be attached to a gable wall. Or do the bats have to be housed in your roof space.
  21. The bats aren't going to live in side your actual house as in your kitchen and living room so what difference does it make about temp swings. Make a section of the roof sealed off from the rest of the house that they can live in. Wouldn't be that much work to divide it up and give the bats 3-4 sqm of space to live in.
  22. Way to many ice cold keo and a few mojitos and a fair chance of a few more today.
  23. A man with your talents could knock up some sort of motor to take the strain out of it if you have any spare time.
  24. The d4 glue I put down my floor with couldn't be wiped clean with a cloth. After 30secs its a hammer and chisel job to get any drops of.
