Large tiles / small tiles. Which is easiest to lay?
Declan52 replied to Nickfromwales's topic in Wall Tiles & Tiling
Will be ok till you stub your toe on the edge of the tile some night about 4am. Could work for most people if it's only sitting a short while but with your track record how long till the other bit gets finished. -
Large tiles / small tiles. Which is easiest to lay?
Declan52 replied to Nickfromwales's topic in Wall Tiles & Tiling
It is always my thighs that ache after doing either tiles or wooden floors. Done four floors in my sister's last week and was near fit for a wheelchair the next day. Must be getting old!! -
When they come round to put water metres on each house they will soon find out. If you dig the trench and lay the pipe up to where it needs to be it will only be a connection charge. Assuming that where ever you are teeing into has enough pressure to feed you. House looking really well, the stone work is very nice. Is that the amber stone dash?? Was nearly my choice as well.

I also used the gerband materials and found them very good indeed and much cheaper than intello. I got mine from clean energy Ireland though. Looking at passiv house systems website I think both companies are one and the same!! Clean energy Ireland are even mentioned on the others website.

Quiet bathroom light switch suggestions please
Declan52 replied to readiescards's topic in Electrics - Kitchen & Bathroom
I have the switch outside two of my bathrooms as for the same reasons above I didn't want a pull cord. It works well when you get used to it and the kids love it as when one is in the shower the other ones can turn the light out. -
All the handle positions should be the same as in the distance from the edge and top will all match so won't matter.

Every door should be flush with the next one or it will be very noticeable. On a run of doors the tops should be perfectly in line which means the edge gap should be the same as the door will be plumb. the actual gaps between the doors can be adjusted on the hinge. All doors are very easy to adjust using the screws on the hinges. It's maybe 30secs work on each door to turn one the three adjustment screws. No excuse for leaving doors like you are describing.

Overhanging tiles on roof - not.
Declan52 replied to TheMitchells's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
Quicker with no motar to fall out. Nail every edge tile and if necessary glue tiny angled cuts to the tile beside it. Having read that back its a dry valley I am describing not a verge!!! Don't go with the plastic cap it it's slate tiles. You are going for an old looking tiled roof so plastic shinny caps don't work as they stay shinny long after the tiles dull down. -
I bought a woman a drink near 20 years ago and so far its cost me a complete fortune and only seems to be getting worse. My shed is a big regret. Bought an 18ft * 10ft but its not big enough. Put the door on the wrong side and only one window. Should have put a bit more effort into picking it.

Def get it done then as the dust is unreal.

It's diy possible if you are mad in the head. My whole house was £200. Took the two guys half a day and they cleaned up after themselves. Dead sore on the wrist and back and unless you have a really good mask you will be eating dust for two weeks. Mine was priced per meter. After I had it all spray painted all the positions my spark sent the guy round he measured up told me the price and I said sold. All done a few hrs later.

Rubber Roof Ladder (Or was it a dream?)
Declan52 replied to Barney12's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
But you will have to walk up a roof and throw that out instead of using the wheels on a roof ladder. -
If its not right it needs fixed end off. You didn't order doors with paint chips so they need replaced. A touch up will always be noticeable. Will never match in with the original look of the doors. The corner unit should be easy fixed. The wrong wall units will either need to be changed or a good discount given as they are not what you wanted. Don't let them continue any more. Get the boss out and point out how unhappy you are at the amount of mistakes that have occurred and you won't let them continue until these have been sorted. Will act as a shot across the bow and hopefully make them take a but more care.

There's always a way round it. If his house is not built to pretty close to pH standard would a gshp even touch the sides of meeting his heat demand. Considering the very large outlay to start with it would be a non runner for me. Could you not combine the two, ashp for low constant heat and an oil system to provide the dhw. Or is that too complicated a system to install. Or even an ashp with a stove and back boiler to give the large tank a boost from time to time.
-
Can he not say he is going all electric but put in all what's needed for oil and install it once it's passed.

Think George was the best. Cheapest wins for me.

I bought a Titan electric chainsaw from screwfix and its done a lot if work for me. Cut down and logged near 40 trees no bother at all, trees where about 10inch diameter. Don't underestimate the torque they have just because they aren't spitting smoke out. Good thing though is once you release the trigger its an immediate stop. Was on offer for £40 last year and it's more than made its money by now.

For ease of build IKEA flat pack wins hands down. Try wrestling with the crap units argos/ home base sell and you will know your driver. Just built a table and 4 chairs for my sister, holy sweet f took an hr to screw in about 20 bolts. Sort of punishment they should make criminals do.
-
I had one for my trees and by God is it scary. Totally obliterates anything that it grips. Would be a nasty way to go.

The doors on that island are the same as mine only mines the white high gloss.

I seen a 20mm quartz top where they put 12mm hdf under the quartz. It was stepped back a few mm and painted to match the top so you couldn't see it. Gave the impression that it was much thicker but also a shadow detail which was nice. Wouldn't work on the overhang on the island though as you would notice it there.
-
Glad I went with quartz, so easy to clean esp with kids. I think mine was silestone brand what that means I am not sure, probably all the same.
-
We where in the same boat but in the end went for the 30mm. Mainly due to having an overhang on the island that I would have been worried about if it was the thinner worktop. Did you get a price from elite granite in Cookstown, they where the cheapest when I got mine.

Cream for me. Is the door going to be wooden as black upvc swells with the sun.
