Vaillant ashp (my battle with).
BotusBuild replied to zoothorn's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
Hi Zoot, If you follow the directions in that link I sent you on PM, you will be using the Timer setting (not the constant ON), and you will also have setup the daytime temperature and the setback temperature as is being suggested. As per my PM, take the time to read that article, then set aside an hour or so to make the changes. We are all hoping that your understanding gets you to the point of being able to decide to the make the changes. We do all believe it will help in the next cold season. 🤞 -
Never again, unless... maybe...
BotusBuild replied to NSS's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Doable, but I think compromise would be required on materials, air tightness, insulation levels given the minimal involvement -
Vaillant ashp (my battle with).
BotusBuild replied to zoothorn's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
I've just sent Zoot a link to an article on the basics of how to setup the heating on the Vaillant controller (the black box) found on the FB Vaillant group. Also, I've given Zoot the spec of cable (blue) needed to link the black box (in red) to the white box. (In yellow). Its 0.75mm twinflex as stated earlier. FYI: I'm in the process of moving mine once my plumbing is sorted out. I suspect that Zoot's black and white box are also this close to each other. Go for it Zoot! 😀 -
I do. SWMBO's phone doesn't!! I know, I was gobsmacked. But this is all about when the WiFi has failed for some reason and we are reliant on just the mobile signal.

5G vs 4G. As your know @SteamyTea, in Kernow 5G is a rare beast, often only to be found wondering around Truro and maybe some other larger towns in the county. Likelihood of us getting 5G where we are I suspect is very low. So, paying for something we're unlikely to get is pointless IMHO. @ProDave, Yes, we do wifi calling in the house. I am planning for that next broadband and/or power outage that leaves us dependent on a mobile signal. This is the link to that above picture - https://ebay.us/m/TKwM6Y

WundrWall - Battery Subscription. Looks good, but what am I missing?
BotusBuild replied to peekay's topic in Energy Storage
Considering the Fogstar batteries when money allows, although probably smaller capacity. The Solis inverter is a good option too. Combined with a low rate bank loan this would be a good deal -
We have a weak mobile phone signal inside the house, likely to do with the concrete walls and 3G glazing. Im thinking of fitting a signal booster, something like this: Anyone used anything like this or something similar that they would recommend?

UFH and screed complete and the Plastering starts in the vaulted area.
BotusBuild commented on Susie's blog entry in The Old Cow Shed
We have a Spitfire door, the one you'll have seen. Very pleased with it. 3G glazing units. (and for those wondering, the "spitting of fire" is for cold callers 😀) -
Why did you choose an air source heat pump?
BotusBuild replied to SimonD's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
New build, high insulation levels, 3G, mains electricity only. Could have done GSHP but couldn't be ar5ed with digging lots of trenches and more manifolds. Then of course, the BUS Grant, although I could have DIY'd it but it was one of those things that I wanted some professional backup on -
ASHP BUS Grant - when does it pay out?
BotusBuild replied to Great_scot_selfbuild's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
We were a little nervous until the payment came through -
ASHP BUS Grant - when does it pay out?
BotusBuild replied to Great_scot_selfbuild's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
We paid all the invoices in full, and then the grant was paid back, IIRC, via the MCS company. -

Mat Wells yay or nay and if yay what mat?
BotusBuild replied to Beau's topic in General Construction Issues
We have one of these, albeit outside, but I dont see any reason it won't work in a mat well. A good shake occasionally and it's clean. Would work in an internal entrance/boot room. https://musthaveideas.co.uk/products/dirt-defender -
I don't know why, but I don't like the idea of those pipes under the stud walls of the two right hand bedrooms. Also, I don't think there is any need to have the pipes so close to each other near the manifold - the vertical bit of the blue kitchen/dining loop and top of the hall loop can be removed and then spread out the pipes from the utility, WC, bathroom and left bedroom to fill that space. Spirals probably a reasonable request in the bedrooms. As you have 3 loops in the kitchen/dining the heat distribution will be reasonably even

Happy Days. Made2Measure (link in JohnMo's message above) has wood connection certification with M8/80mm long at 200mm spacing (400mm with no wind loading) using Fisher FPF-WT YZP (https://www.fischer.co.uk/en-gb/products/screws/wood-construction-screw-powerfast/powerfast-fpf-wt-zpp) -

Certification/Accreditation only mentions concrete and steel. I have messaged them about fixing to the glulam beam. -

Yes, and no. Yes, replace all FF generating capacity with non-FF alternatives and you can then price electricity accordingly. I'm really not going to respond to any comments on that statement. It's just not going to happen overnight, but I think we all agree on that. No, because while we are interconnected and other countries use gas (bought on that global market) we are beholden to the price of electricity of those other countries. Don't misunderstand me, I believe we should be investing to remove our dependence on using FF to create electricity, or find ways to remove the harm caused by using FF. There is no silver bullet, but it does not preclude us from doing what we can while remaining economically viable in a global economy. It's not easy. Out.

@Beelbeebub, before I say what I'm here to say, I agree with the overall sentiment of your POV of the OP. Now, do you understand that the auction is not just a national thing? As we are interconnected to Europe for electricity, that auction involves international suppliers. Behind all that is the global gas pricing market (a much bigger thing). Yes, it sucks, I agree. But all of that makes it a damn sight more difficult to change the system - just look at how long things take for the EU to reach agreement on anything as an example. By all means suggest the change, but keep in mind the diplomatic, economic, and geopolitical matters that would be brought to bear in trying to do so. I'm not saying its impossible but good luck trying to make it happen, or finding a political party that you can vote for who will make it happen.
