  1. When the regs change to Harmonisation and went to RCD's as protection to replace the faraday cage within a faraday cage (bathrooms) it solved the problem of checking if local earthing was present but the problem now is that no one presses the test button and as a result RCD's stop working! BTW, it isn't compulsory for building sites to use 110V. It is allowed in the regs (or was) to use 230V in combination with an RCD but almost all sites don't allow it for policy reasons. The short reason that PME isn't allowed on sites is that the regs say so and the long reason is that unlike in a house there isn't a faraday cage present to protect.
  2. Just to add to the excellent and concise info from ProDave and JS Harris, once beyond the meter tails and subject to the BS7671 wiring regs it isn't a valid argument to say that those regulations are not law, because a court of law will rule that compliance with the regs will be deemed to have complied with the law.
  3. Totally agree with ProDave, just fit a changeover switch and a Tesla Cybertruck! It has a 230V inverter and plug that in. LOL.
  4. They are all a bit different but for the model 3 the right side stalk is used. If you move it down, the screen will show you have gone into forward drive. You must have your foot on the brake pedal first and to go back you just move the stalk up. Then just ease the accelerator pedal and you move forwards. Once moving, move the same stalk down once for cruise control and quickly twice for Autopilot. If arriving at traffic lights for example and coming to a standstill by easing off on the throttle the car will hold by itself, even on a hill. Once the lights go green, just put your foot down and your off. When arriving at your destination just press the end of the stalk and the car will turn off and put the electric hand brake on. A double tap on the stalk will also unlock the doors ir they were locked. Open the door and walk off and the car will lock itself.
  5. Look at the picture, two pedals, just one used most of the time. The go pedal just uses regen motor braking when lifted and doesn't actual activate the brakes.
  6. Most of the Colbalt mined in the world is used in the refining of fuel to remove sulphur and is then burnt so has a one use life. A fact not publicised by the oil industry when spreading FUD about batteries.
  7. Nice design, Is it passive? TF?
  8. You obviously don't know what the product is by that comment
  9. And what did you think when you drove one? I thought it took a couple of minutes to adapt as did the one pedal driving, although that has since been improved by an over the air update. About the same time as they gave a free 5% power upgrade! Has your present car had one? Rather than select online quotes that fit your argument why don't you try one for yourself and make your own mind up?
  10. And what is usually ignored when comparing BEV to traditional cars is the fact that BEV's are just so much better to drive. It would seem that comparisons are assuming that basically they are the same as each other to drive but BEV's are worse because they don't have the range or whatever. Have a drive in one and you will then know what all the fuss is about.
  11. I think this explains it neatly, It is pointless even considering what system of energising electric cars is best because this is a Betamax/VHS situation and that means for cars at least, BEV's win.
  12. Didn't the UK's only Hydrogen filling station (at the time) explode this year? I'm sure I read about it and I think it led to nToyota withdrawing their model from the market for a while.
  13. I'm a bit confused, this thread is only 17Hrs old and is one page. Never mind, lets move on. It's not important.
  14. And I was referring to the original poster, who is also a bit after your time on here (does it matter?) He separated the two costs, I presume to make sense of costs, as land costs are much more variable across the country than build costs. £830, very impressive.
  15. Just to be clear are you dividing the price of the land by the size of the plot or the size of the build? I think both are being used although tbh it's all a bit off topic as it is the build cost that is relevant here as land cost is so massively variable across the country.

MK do a waterproof sw that has a neon. It can be wire to be always on.
  17. When applying for permission to live in a caravan on site during the build are the rules different for an AONB?
  18. It might be just as easy to have the whole lot on a changeover switch and in the very rare occasions you have an outage just monitor closely your usage. You can even turn off individual circuits if you don't trust yourself or if you have some big loads that would otherwise become live. A normal changeover switch is used with a genny but would normally be part pf the package with a lithium battery/inverter. Will any PV be grid tied or can it charge the battery direct?
  19. Welcome, brilliant way to do it. Tell me, at what point can you live on the land. I understand it is when work starts but I don't know the actually definition.
  20. It seems to me that most people don't like electric cars simply because people as a rule don't like change but change is coming so they had better like it or lump it. Legislation banning polluting cars from cities has started and will only accelerate. Incentives will be part of the carrot and stick approach but the goal is to clean up the air and the trend isn't going to be reversed anytime soon. A big cost but also a huge opportunity. From some of the comments you might think people like the taste of diesel fumes. Welcome to the 21st century.
  21. So you went for the model 3 I presume. What one? Brilliant car. What most people who diss electric cars have never driven one, far better to drive.
  22. Actually after a life in a BEV the batteries can have a second life, as home storage for instance and then can be recycled. I know Tesla's Gigafactory in the US is setup for recycling. As has been said, beats spending a lot of energy to extract, transport, refine, transport a second time and then burn once with the resulting pollution. Change is good, embrace it!
  23. A switch is for functional switching as opposed to an isolator that is present to isolate equipment for maintenance. For instance a bathroom fan on a lighting circuit has a three pole switched isolator so the fan can be cleaned/maintaned with the lights still on. An isolator also has to be local to the equipment being isolated but a switch doesn't have to because it is a functional switch and can be operated from a distance to the switched appliance.
  24. Consider having an ALL OFF switch when leaving the house and to include a servo to turn off the water supply into the house when activated (controlled so it won't work if the WM is being used etc) Wouldn't want a flood in that room! I know this can be done with Loxone.
