?♂️?♀️? Sorry. Not much help, but just read this and thought about my experience with architects. Seems pretty common. As for changes, just do them, but others might be better advisors here.

@ppeetteerrThis is it then. "cool" air will be drawn from the house automatically then. Unless you want to go deeper into the problem, as you could use the overheating of the utility room to heat the rest of the house, but than you would need to look into mvhr for the whole house. Have a look on the mvhr topics on here for more info.

Very entertaining. Not making a very convincing impression for the system @Clive Osborne Probably the wrong crowd here . They rely far too much on facts. It s terrible. Would be interesting to see the "German test results" mentioned earlier. We all know that anything tested with the word "German" in it is far superior and HAS to be trusted. ?

Fair play. New they are not that different I believe. But might be wrong as well. ?
-
It s not cheaper. Only more widely available.

What I don t really understand is why Kwikstage is so popular when there are far superior systems like Layher (or Plettac) which are really not even more expensive. Just not that widely available . I just dont really get why it s not used more widely. I never seen these Oldschool Tube Scaffolding (the regular Scaffolding system used) either before I came to the UK.

Sorry. It might get a bit off topic here, but why not just hijack an old bunker/oil platform https://www.sealandgov.org/

http://www.separett-usa.com/ They are a Swedish company. Doing off grid toilets. Used one in the alps in a chalet. Works perfect and no difference to a WC. As of washing hands, you probably can dispose this water in the garden behind the shed as it s grey water

Love it. It's the theory of hiding in plain sight. I'd say depending on the area it might work ?

This is what is always told/ hammered into our heads. "oh no, everybody would do what they want". the real problem is the stable rising housing market. Banks would collapse without it. ?? 2007.anyone.

Blacho Trapez steel standing seam roof - first experience
Patrick replied to Simon R's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
They don't do curved, it s tricky as you would need to "curve" the standing seam. Not really possible premade, only on the roof (possibly with heat?). The sheets will take a slight curve of a few degrees but nothing that would count as a "curved roof". Same for all the other type of metal sheets, to my knowledge. -
At the end, it is partly down to "the people" to decide what they want to allow. In this example, you as an involved person could just decide to allow for someone (single person /family, not developers or companies) to build whatever they want. This does not mean that its legal and also doesn't mean that they will be allowed, as there is others that can stop them from having permission, but in general we have to produce the environment around us that we want to have . I, for instance think, that the planning laws and regulations are completely wrong, historically build to support the ruling powers and kept in place to prop up our economy. This might be a fact but it s certainly not morally right (in my eyes). And it's down to each of us to do something against that. (for example NOT report people breaching these rules, voting FOR change of use of land for private individuals) change the minds and the rest will follow.

Agreed to that, I had a look at all these systems as well and found springvale beamshield very clever. The insulation sits in between the Beams and not just on top. With beamshield it also has a layer underneath the beams, so you are getting a thicker insulation without raising the total floor level. Problem I have with them, can't get a quote out of them. Been trying for 6 months now chasing after them. A nightmare to deal with. Tetris was alright and quote came In reasonable, but the system is not that superior over just putting Kingspan on top. Like you said. I stayed away from Jetfloor as their quote was rather high (60% higher than Tetris), but maybe that will be different in your case.

If you near Bath, I have some props rusting away in the garden you can have as long as you need them.
-
Agreed. I ve done the exact same at my semidetached, just took the window out and cut down to the floor with a concrete cutter, but there was a lintel above the window, so this might be a problem. If there's is none at yours, you want to stabilise the ceiling first, then knock the window out and put a lintel in before doing the door
-
Agreed 100%. What happens if it became 1000£/pile at yours. Would you consider it then or you generally would never ever touch it?
-
Needs Piles due to slope, clay Ground, Trees around, access. Insulated Slab would need to be protected from sliding off on 1 side, with piles (according to Building Control and SE) , so double the work, not saving the piling. In your case , @Russell griffiths , I think that the Piling worked out at a similar price than DIY would have been. Your saving would have been minimal and not worth the stress. Been in touch with your piling contractor and maybe they get back to me with a complete acceptable quote. Like I said, was not planning to do this myself but just stumbled across the option. But for the possible savings worth a BMW, I am at least thinking about DIY .

Just been looking for a mini digger to hire, when I came across a website that rents out and sells Piling Rigs in all sizes and shapes. Would have not crossed my mind before, but they are approx. 4miles down the road from me and they offer training with their equipment . Now I just HAD to ask them how much it was to rent one of the little mini rigs.(waiting for the reply) The Misses and my mates are all very much opposed to even discussing the idea. Anybody on here ever played around with something like this? I know people in the UK are not very keen on doing things themselves and God beware there might be a health and safety risk. Kids might get hurt. Can please someone think about the kids. ?? But some of you left this island working abroad or maybe still remember the old days (before there where Health and safety inspectors for Bouncy castles). Went a bit off topic, but you get the idea. Thoughts?

Anyone fitted a pre-charged aircon unit?

No leak testing is most likely the problem -
Anyone fitted a pre-charged aircon unit?
Patrick replied to Jeremy Harris's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
I fitted those in my previous 3 houses . Easy to do and works brilliantly. A lot cheaper than a pro installed unit. They work perfectly fine for around 1-2 years and then need regassing (sometimes ). But the regassing /topping up should be done for a few quids, rather than full installation costs. -
True. But other systems might be more diy friendly even though that might still end up in similar costs due to the higher price in material.

Inspired by @AnonymousBosch recent topic about Plywood wall covering, I was looking into alternative wall coverings on Buildhub but couldn't find much. Maybe that's because it doesnt make sense or maybe that s just because there is nothing. would still be interesting to hear what people researched themselves. so far there is the obvious ones: - plasterboard and skim (the preferred option up and down the country) -plasterboard and tape joints (the quicker /cheaper alternative that possibly looks cheaper - see other threads to this topic) - plywood covering (seems to be a bit of a problem for BC fire safety-needs separate fire proofing? ) -timber internal cladding (various types available, same fire safety problems than plywood) Please add whatever you found out and used or did not use (at the end, what reason stopped you? )
