Good question Bringing in people from Eastern Europe isn’t the answer Getting an apprentice is far more difficult than it was 20 years ago kids arnt outdoory nowadays When I’ve advertised for an apprentice Nine out of ten have usally wasted two year at college Performing arts Sport science Our friends son has been with us for six month’s training as a tiler But has landed a place on a two year funded corse Computer game design Miles better than a building site in winter His mum is livid

The markup on the ticket prices is ridiculous I buy thousands of tiles per year and rarely pay o ever 20
-
It will take me about four days once the heat is on The original ticket price was £97 Whilst they are good quality Italian porcelain I wouldn’t want to pay much more than 30 for a floor tile Tge markup is incredible on tiles

Most will do all the lot

20 per bag adhesive 3 boards per bag
-
If you work on 7 boards per bag 20m2 You won’t be far off Most decent plasters will do at least 3x30m2 each day
-
On all my jobs a continuous line of adhesive does happen I can’t believe we are the only ones doing it right It’s poor management when it doesn’t and really easy to check at any stage afterwards A gentle tap around the perimeter Velfac arnt the best quality windows They are a contract window that most of the big players use and cheap Ive said before on I visit different sites each week and haven’t seen an air test being carried out in the last five years It’s supposed to be 1-7 which is a joke in itself The major house builders get away with it Because the can Most of the new builds that I work on achieve a 2 on the air test Which must be done via a desktop

Garden wall is failing - How can I save it?
nod replied to johnannik's topic in General Structural Issues
Spot on Dave My first thought was 5 years down the line you could be back to square one Trees and garden walls don’t get on It looks like the roots are already under the flags A nice fence would be a great option at a fraction of the cost -
I’ll go in on Monday On my own In my work gear looking Poor 😁

She found these lovely floor tiles for the GF (200m2) I nearly fell over when I saw the price I said they will have to come down to 30 m The markup must be incredible

An idea for insulation under an old uninsulated block and beam floor
nod replied to Carol W's topic in Floor Structures
It sounds a mammoth task Back in the day you could pushed a small child under there and pay him thrupence But the PC brigade have put a stop to that now Or maybe a small Polish builder If you manage to pull it off Take plenty of photos As this is something that will keep coming up on here Best of luck -
Liquid prime Give it a couple of hours then pour your self leveling Go round it the following morning with a tubing stone Sweep and your good to go

Heat pump planning rules to be overhauled

I agree The HPs I’ve looked at seem very quiet -
You will need to prime the floor first We normally use tile master primer But most of the self leveling compounds have there own primer

Good advise That’s the only way you will do it with The minimum of damage -
I don’t think a fence would have stoped him He’s split an 8” oak post in half Said his foot slipped off the clutch
