how long before tiling over new 75mm screed
nod replied to Post and beam's topic in Floor Tiles & Tiling
Presuming sand and cement screed It’s normally a mill per day -
If pir is fitted correctly and taped It far superior to beads Beads settle get everywhere Sure they are cheaper and quicker Mass produced homes are full of the bloody things Pay your Brickies enough money to make a neat job Or do it yourself
-
We’ve come across this over the past twenty odd years of renovating properties Its actually got worse We simply held back on fitting the kitchen appliances till we had a tenant ready to move in Although LV would do a building’s policy to cover Fire
-
Your going to struggle for anything will cover past 60 days of an empty property

To pay VAT or to not pay VAT
nod replied to SarahG's topic in Self Build VAT, Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), S106 & Tax
I’d think twice about your fitter He’s either very inexperienced Or pocketing the vat A quick call to his accountant would put him straight If he has one You can always get the log burner company to split the invoice and show the labour as zero and claim the vat back on the fire They should zero rate all of it But a lot of small businesses won’t -
We used level master plus and the screws and washers are tile board fixers You can get them anywhere PU glue for floorboards Done by others
-
The mad thing is that this house is insulated within an inch of its liTaped membrane and every external wall is batoned out The best treble glazing money can buy and he’s convinced that he needs UFH on the two upper floors We have a fan running constantly while we are tiling as none of the windows open Except electrically operated patios Which won’t or don’t work yet and we are only in April 😂😂
-
I’ve just done one for a mate I put a 10 mil screed over it before tiling Super Simple This went straight down on a 22 mil cabba deck Glued and screwed
-
A lot of sites now blow the beads in afterwards But even these tend to settle Or end up und the Block and beam

Roof insulation on the inside - quotes - discussion
nod replied to Garald's topic in Heat Insulation
Why not simply fix insulated plasterboard on the inside Re skim Or more likely tape in France re paint You can get an extremely high level of insulation with this method For less than half what you are being quoted -
We haven’t UFH in our current plant room Five years ago in our previous build I didn’t give it a thought and included UFH The PR never dropped below 19 So the heating never came on So it may be a case of better have it and not need it Pretty much like bedroom radiators in a well insulated house
-
Your ground conditions will dictate the depth of your foundation The weight of the building won’t make much difference
-
I’m doing the tiling on a self build He’s spending 120k on tiling Lots of curved walls As normal all the floors tiled after the walls I’m only using a grinder to cut all of these

Yes But why go to the trouble of nogging all the edges Just use a 15 mil board -
Your probably going to need to engage a SE So I’d get a survey done before speaking to BC So that you can tell him what remedial measure If any you will take Your Architect will air on the side of caution As will BC
