Garage floor step down
Vijay replied to Russell griffiths's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Am I missing something here, surely you have to have a step or slope somwhere anyway cos the garage door threshold will be at ground level and the floor level of the house will be 150mm higher anyway?? -
That probably wouldn't be the first time that's been said to me ?

I've put DPC under the floor beams but wanted to have another slightly higher up too where the radon/DPM will be. I'm not 100% happy with the DPC under the beams as when moving them into position, there's every chance they may be scratched/scored - so I'd rather be 100% happy. I may use both a normal DPC and liquid

Is it OK to build blocks off damp proof liquid membrane? I think I was once told it's ok and you throw sand in the second coat of the stuff? Cheers Vijay

so does the ready mix mortar come mixed dry and then you add water or does it come ready to use?

not sure I'd risk a razor blade scraper just in case - 1 slip I know WD40 is very good in removing labels but no idea what it would be like on SS

Not sure of the footprint but including the garage, outside walls are around 125 linear metres -

BM told me it could be up to 36t as they do a round. I will certainly be getting blocks for the drive in the future. I thought concrete lorries were up around 30t and I will have a lot of them as I'm ICF. No refuse collections from the houses, bins have to be put at the front for collection. I agree 24/26 tonnes is a lot but I'm not happy that it restricts things so we have to check weights for everything. I'm annoyed that his people say 60t but he ignores them completely. Remember, we have to pay the maintenance on this road after it's constructed!- 70 replies

I had to do exactly what you didn't want to do. All I had to do is have rebar joining the 2 lots of concrete (foundation to 1st ICF course concrete) and then there is another lot of rebar to join the first ICF course concrete to the next pour. I guess there could be a way depending on how many floor beams and how difficult your layout is................. -

Cheers Peter. The developer is now saying the road is only good for up to a fire engine - even though his employees doing the work say otherwise. I understand he's trying to cover himself but it's ridiculous!- 70 replies

Nope you need to do a site visit What's the issue? I'm hoping to put the beams into their exact positions next week -
Fed up with it swaying in the wind when setting out, I tried using yellow fishing line which worked much much better. Also used one of these to save wasted time getting knots and twisted string - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fire-Wheel-Kite-Reel-Winder-Handle-Tool-Twisted-String-Line-Outdoor-blue-grip-JD/122946257498?var=423394593303&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D49138%26meid%3D8bd97070c1c14068970f737be115f9d8%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D6%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D152899083637%26itm%3D423394593303&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

Does anyone know what a fire engine weight is rated at? A quick Google search suggested only 12t?- 70 replies

Why not just tile where white goods are going and everywhere else up to plinth legs/feet

Noticed today that when using my laser measurer aiming at reflective tape, it throws out the measurement, it adds 6-10mm. It also doesn't get a quick quick on the distance. Anything else I could try?

Happy to say I got call back and it was a perfectly pleasant conversation. He's going to reply to my email but is perfectly happy that the road will take construction vehicles and is rated to 60t. What he did say is that if a truck went over an edge or corner and damaged it, then that wouldn't be normal use - which I can't argue with. So I'll be double checking the width of the road (is there a minimum?) and I just have to make sure nothing is dropped on it from exiting vehicles - which I'm more than happy to do.- 70 replies
