  1. The pump price is not only linked to the crude price but also the refinery capacity. We used to import 25% of our refined diesel from Russia and the UK does not have the refinery capacity to up production. Apparently...
  2. Are the 560W panels really 2sqm ? That seems quite amazing , I'd expect them to be more like 2.8sqm.
  3. A DPM can be used as VCL. They are both plastic sheets doing the same job, DPM is a heavier gauge.
  4. You could install a VCL between the joists and the plaster board. Might be worth filling the void with insulation wool as it's so cheap and easy yo do. If you do just take care to uprate any electrical cables, or at least think about that side of it.
  5. How much load before what? It carries your weight easily enough. It would be fine for general storage IMO, just don't put a safe up there. It's only a 2m span, in my old house I had 75mm ceilings and did what you have done, but they were 3.2m spans. It was bouncy, but fine for storage.
  6. Just too small is an easy fix with a rasp or plasterboard saw. Too small is fiddly to fix but not impossible
  7. Should have used a hole saw, the right size!
  8. I've had BS roof batten prices from £1.10 to £0.63 per m. Shopping around is the biggest and easiest money saver by far.
  9. It would be tempting to remove the chimney altogether IMO. Your neighbours phone line is an issue with that, and they may not agree. I would get up there on a roof ladder first and gave a detailed look at it.
  10. What do you want to move? It would have to be powered IMO. Better to use a skid rather than wheels on the off road, then drag the skid with a machine.
  11. Is it sitting on a rafter? Can you move the bracket to the left to get it between rafters? Then fit a noggin internally at a lower level to get rid of the packers and have the metal on the tile.
  12. Hi folks I will be constructing my cut roof fairly soon. Slate covering , cold roof. Using a nail gun with ring shank nails. What grade nails should I use and where? I was thinking HDG nails on everything covered like rafters and battens, stainless for anything exposed, fascia and soffit. I've not uses stainless nails before, do they fire ok? Copper nails for the slates , hand driven of course. BR Mike
  13. How many calculations? ( should be on the architects drawings).
  14. You might find some useful information within Approved Document part A. If you are tying the blockwork to an inner course to create a cavity I would go 100mm standard. No need to block on flat if its tied.
  15. Thats one advantage of using pre made cavity closers , as I am , but you right , I will absolutely make sure they are so spec.
  16. I've just ordered my windows. Cost is the reason for self installing. Period. Sizing is done of the drawings. There is 10mm clearance all round on most windows. For the 5m wide slider ther is more clearance, especially on the height as the opening could sag. Airtightness will be done according to the manufacturers recommendation, compriband etc... Aluminium sill extensions in my case are about 50mm ,just to cover the stone sill below. Moving windows... tractor , digger , dolly , sockets and manpower I expect.
  17. I don't see any issue with that. It's the same water, just hotter
  18. Roughly 200 to 300l of water is a mega shower! I shower in one tenth of that.
  19. That is a complex roof. I would not fancy trying to build that without a full set of detailed plans.
  20. Make some massive hinges out of plate steel welded to some heavy tube stock with a steel rod to suit? That will get round the site tolerance issue. You still have the issue of marking drilling and bolting in the acute angles.
  21. Rolling a half ton huge panel could be somewhat dangerous. I'd say you want plenty of rollers to avoid a point load occurring on the bottom of the unit. They may not want it dismantled due to warranties perhaps, but if its done with care this would ( and will be ) my favoured route. Let us know how you get on as I have an almost identical unit coming in the autumn .
  22. Great education Gus Potter, thanks for taking the time .
  23. Agree. You can get black IBC's, but the clear ones accumulate a lot of growth over time .
  24. Quite right.
