So is it a storage heater then. The FFR worries me. "Each device communicates over the internet to a IoT platform where they can be aggregated into a giant Virtual Battery or Virtual Power Plant" Locks it into the whims of others.

Wood burners emit many different pollutants.

If you get too much of a temperature drop up the flue, the smoke don't come out fast enough. But at least you keep your mess private, rather than giving a little bit to everyone else.

Usual, in Devon, to mention you have a gun, I think. -
well if people don't do a job right, what do they expect. Bit like making mashed potatoes, without boiling the spuds.

I don't think there is an increased risk of leakage with an inroof system. May even be less of a risk than, what is in effect, a retro fit. If you have closely watched s PV system being fitted, you will know what I mean.

Scaffolding tent for temporary roofing
SteamyTea replied to andyscotland's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
May only be a case of changing the resin. You may find another use for the polyester, make a boat, or a pond, some guttering. Or sell it to the Boy Scouts to make canoes. Just thinking that the rain is going to be on and off for the next, I don't know, 40 years. -

Never used it, or seen it in action. But I have used PU resins a lot in the past. They are tolerant of moisture, some actually need it to cure. I seem to remember that they are more viscous, so may seem a bit alien to people that are used to polyester, and I am not sure how easily they break down the binder in the mat. There are different types of binder for mat and woven cloth does not have any at all, so that may be an option. Call them up and ask for a sample. You are on the wrong side of the country too. -

Or you could change to a polyurethane resin system that is moisture tolerant. If you were not at the wrong end of the country, I would come and help, be fun to try out a new system. https://www.apolloroofingsolutions.co.uk/product-overview/single-component-pu-waterproofing-system/ -
I agree. I hate them. When people wash dishes by hand, how much water do you put in the sink and do you rinse stuff?

Slovin's Formula n=N÷(1+Ne2) n = number of samples N = total population e = error tolerance Now you should know how many block you have, and taking @TerryE idea about tolerance on the U-Value, you can set your tolerance level. Make up formula in Excel of x and y values, where x is the number of blocks long, y is the number high, then assign a random number to each. That is then the position where you need to sample. Avoid any duplicates, but do not avoid adjacent blocks. =randbetween(1,x) =randbetween(1,y) Easy and interesting -
When it comes to shifting parcels, I use Parcel2Go, always amazed how cheap it can be to send stuff.

A mate of mine works in the AD industry. He works in $100,000,000 projects. There was a couple of chancers based near Coombe Martin, with the help of an Irish middleman, that ripped off someone over at the other place for £50k. Odd though as they had developed a fuel cell that never needed recharging. Just as well as one of them told me that OF never paid back its energy debt. -

If you stick with your architect, won't he just pass on the design to an architectural technician to do the real work.

I like picohydro, and 2 kW is a useful amount of power. Stick 4 kWh of battery storage on it, that will give you 6 kW, so a usable amount of power. You can run a kettle, a kW induction hob and the oven. The inverter for that lot will be £1500 though.
-
Can you work out if you are getting anymore power out of the system than before?
-
Power = Mass x Gravity x Height x Efficiency Power = 0.002 [m3.s-1] x 9.81 [m.s-2] 110 [m]x 0.9 [eff] Power = 1.94 kW About the same as a Honda generator that costs 600 quid. (I may have misunderstood the flow rate)

Heating System Basics...

Yes, an interesting map. Can anyone beat my index of multiple deprivation of 40.2 There is a bit of Penzance, that has 67.2, but only 10.2% of properties don't have gas, compared to 67.8% where I am. Fuel poverty for my area is 21%, for that bit of Penzance it is 20.1%. -
No, it is not legal to use as firewood.

We are in contact with the air, and we breath it in. Can't say the same for my floor, or walls. -
Fit a smart meter, that logs exports. Or make up a logger that texts data over. Mind you, If I had a system that someone else was getting the FiTs on, I would switch it off. Then negotiate a price.
-
Switch the AC to the inverter off first, that takes the load off the DC side, then turn the DC isolators off. Or do the work after 5 PM.
