Combining an air-water heat pump and solar thermal
SteamyTea replied to Garald's topic in Solar Thermal (ST)
I would not bother with solar thermal, it needs maintenance and is a one trick pony. Once the water is up to temp, it then just sits there waiting to go wrong. PV is much more reliable. It is easier to install as well. Wire are easier to route than pipes. -

Simple air changes per hour, ventilation rate calculator
SteamyTea replied to MrMagic's topic in Ventilation
No, it is the huge extractor fans we have to use, even worse if you cook on gas. Not unusual to be 40°C by the hobs/ovens/fryers, and struggling to get to 16°C in the actual eating area. There is often a double door between kitchen and restaurant for this reason. Trouble is is gets propped open to help cool the kitchen. Opening exterior windows and doors always seems like a good idea, but the orders then get blown off the rail. Oh the life of a chef, it is a mugs game. -

Could be a catering establishment. Have you ever wondered why it is so cold waiting for a takeaway. https://www.lakeair.com/air-changes-per-hour/ Commercial kitchens are 15 to 30 ACH. -

1000 litre in a cubic metre. 3,600 seconds in 1 hour. So Total Litres = m³ x ACH x 1000 Litres per second = Total Litre / 3600 So take a room that is 10m by 5m by 2.5m 125m³ ACH is 6 125m³ x 6 ACH 750m³ Multiply by 1000 750,000 litres To change that in 1 hour, and express in litres per second, divide by seconds in an hour. 750,000 / 3,600 208 Lt/s Can call that Radio Luxembourg. Or lt/s = (Volume [m3] x ACH) / 0.2778 So 125 m3 x 6 ACH 750 / 0.2778 = 208 Lt/s -

Then he is responsible. Get him to sort it, one way or another.

Well I think this is the whole thing. The pipeline was private, though connected to public sewers. No idea if the final sewage treatment is private, with only the pipework crossing your land. I would give the local water company a call and ask.

Went to kindergarten in the Netherlands, state school in UK, then a private French one, then a prep school in Kent, then a Public school in Oxon. Also, as my mother was a teacher, sat in a lot of classes in International schools when we were abroad. All my school's were very, very different. Not sure if changing school every 2 or 3 years is actually a good or a bad thing. As a kid, school was just something 'you had to do'. College and university was totally different. My choice of what I wanted to study, and where (away from family and friends, or distractions). Both school and the workplace have, generally bored me. Not the work, it is the small minded pettiness of it all. Being seen to be good was more important than actually being good.

When I bought this place I took out a one off insurance to cover the shared sewage pipe that crosses my land. A few years back I had notification that SW Water had taken over responsibility of all the sewage pipes. Never got any of my money back from the insurance company.

Distributed battery power banking
SteamyTea replied to Radian's topic in Networks, AV, Security & Automation
One of my assignments when studying renewable energy was to design a system that supplied power for 3 days. I designed a cascading system. Basically anything could run for 4 hours, then stuff was disconnected, big loads first. So no DHW or heating, then oven, then freezers and entertainment, eventually just left with lights, I considered lighting to be a safety issue. Costed it out at around £60k using lead acid technology and islanding inverters. Class mate if mine found a biodiesel generator, I considered that cheating. He got better marks. He used to get better marks in the Mathematic assignments, and I did them for him. -

You are near Bovington, could be fun scaring the neighbours with a midnight pyrotechnic show. My Kindle has Fire in the name as well. Who will be the first EV maker to use they word, Fiat. -

50mm liquid screed UFH with Sunamp as storage

Non, no one has. -
Easy fix. Give a Tim almost 500 quid and he goes into the loft with a black box, comes out later with a dirty black box. Trying work out when in was fitted, probably 25+ years ago. So no real complaints.

50mm liquid screed UFH with Sunamp as storage
SteamyTea replied to westcoast's topic in Underfloor Heating
Because it is a phase change material, the vast majority of the energy is stored at the phase change temperature. I am not sure, but think that 'over charging' causes the pouches to expand, this can cause damage. That is more a case of under charging most of the time. That would need some numbers. No point over charging the screen if the inside temperature of the house goes too high, with the inevitable window opening to counteract it. My house has storage heaters, the small, 1.5 kW (10.5 kWh) one has a mass of about 60 kg. -
What temperature should my hot water be set at?
SteamyTea replied to Mike_scotland's topic in Boilers & Hot Water Tanks
Seem the main concern should be going to Thailand. With around 300 cases a year, and very few fatalities, it is getting to such low levels, we should be worried about putting the phone charger in a socket. Things have to be kept in perspective, being at work is much more dangerous. Key figures for Great Britain (2020/21) 1.7 million working people suffering from a work-related illness, of which 822,000 workers suffering work-related stress, depression or anxiety 470,000 workers suffering from a work-related musculoskeletal disorder 93,000 workers suffering from COVID-19 which they believe may have been from exposure to coronavirus at work 2,369 mesothelioma deaths due to past asbestos exposures (2019) 142 workers killed at work 441,000 working people sustained an injury at work according to the Labour Force Survey 51,211 injuries to employees reported under RIDDOR -
I suspect below the 6A limit there charging efficiency is impaired. Be a bit like heating your water up from 10°C to 25°C. Not a lot of use in reality if 25°C was all you can get.
