Not going to mention it either. Will say that the standard of driving has plummeted this week. But on the bright side, did manage to get in a free parking space in town.

ASHP with large thermal store (for load shifting)
SteamyTea replied to apesort's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
Thy should accept some charge at below the phase change temperature, but the heat capacity will be lower. -
@Onoff will be along soon. You possible know a couple of people I know. I turned down a free trip to CAT, my day trip, back in the 90s put me off. From what I heard it is a bit more down to earth now.

GRP mock chimney / roof tiles issue
SteamyTea replied to btidude's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
Personally I think that is a failure of the engineering design. Do a search and see if you can find the manufacturer and ask their opinion. They almost certainly want their product to be fitted correctly. -
Like children, that cost nothing to make, you will soon find out, they are not 'free'.

How does your garden grow?

The badgers around these rural parts get drunk on people's eco friendly slug traps. I see them sleeping the nights excesses off on the side of the roads. Newspapers are not the only think that are black and white, and red all over. -
£2000 buys about 30,000 kWh of mains gas. Which would be enough to heat my house for about 25 winters.

You can get wine glasses for a quid each at Wilco. Assuming @Adsibob don't drink Coop 3 quid bottles, and a washing machine costs 600 quid fitted. Cheaper to just throw the glasses away. Or just become teetotal. Makes the journey home cheaper, not been in a taxi since I left hospital with a broken pelvis. Thankfully I had had a swig of morphine to improve the journey.

Nothing lives long on a diet of distilled water. Water is commonly referred to as 'the universal solvent'.

Welcome Being an ex lecturer in Environmental Science and Renewable Energy, I am interested to hear about your Eco Refurbishment teaching. Sounds fun.

Do I need an architect or SE? Any recommendations?
SteamyTea replied to SarahG's topic in Surveyors & Architects
www.ibiblio.org/ml/libri/s/SmithA_WealthNations_p.pdf Should be read by everyone to stop them spouting nonsense. We would not have voted to leave the EU if Johnson had read it. -
To say nothing of the plasticizers used in containers, seals and pipes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasticizer.

While ignorance of the law is no defence, I doubt if you were sensible i.e. increased usage and not increase exports too much, no one would notice. May be a strategy to implement over say 5 years, add 750Wp each year.

Any mention of minimum combustible material amounts. A small burn will cool quicker in the flue, so draw less air into the chamber, causing an even more inefficient burn (running rich in automotive terms). This may be part of the reason that it is recommended to have a short, hot burn. Quite the opposite from what people actually want, sitting around the camp fire discussing the merits of red wine over white wine, or a vegan diet over a lamb dhansak.

There is 3.2 kW for 18m2. So 178 W/m² A good module a decade ago would have been about the same (285W, 1m by 1.6) For the same amount of unshaded area a roof mounted system would take up 11m2. A circle of modules would have a diameter of about 3.7m (almost as wide as my house).

Not sure if it is as simple as just pipe length once adjusted for bends. The inlet air density will be pretty constant until it reaches the combustion chamber, the density is then greatly reduced, but as it exits the chamber it rapidly cools and becomes denser again. Cool it too much and it does not flow i.e. exhaust gases at same density as incoming air. There will also be an optimal inlet flow rate for maximum thermodynamic efficiency. Best ASHP manufacturer/model for new passive house
SteamyTea replied to markharro's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
No, but you may reduce the grid draw by whatever the PV is generating, but why would you fit a piddling, pathetic, cheap, instantaneous electric shower. -
If you could get a second meter fitted, could you claim both to then, and get 2 400 quid grants.

Going to be more likely in some places.

Fantastic, they show the built in shading. All we need to go with it is a wind turbine that has blades designed similar to a sycamore seed.

Best ASHP manufacturer/model for new passive house
SteamyTea replied to markharro's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
There is so much that is unknown that no recommendation can be given at this stage. First thing to do is the heat loss calculation for the house. Then an estimate of hot water usage.
