That is my feeling. We all just have to suck it up for the time being.

Yes, had just woken up from an after lunch snooze. Or would that be dinner.

Going to be interesting to see your code. Never thought of adding an RTC to one. Have fitted a DHT22 to them before.

Except we are only asking for the pencil lead and the paper. Do architects pay the brick makers, lumber yards and window manufactured royalties when they copy their designs in. No they don't, as that would be silly.

What energy rating is your HW cylinder?
SteamyTea replied to Adsibob's topic in Boilers & Hot Water Tanks
Why do plumbers fit them like that every place I have owned has been the same. I lined two sides of my cylinder cupboard with Celotex, then filled the 'corners' with mineral wool. Celotex lid for the top. Pipe insulation does not have to be pipe shaped. Boxed in mineral wool works just as well, sometimes better. Thermal losses are not like water leaks, you don't loose a disproportionate extra amount of energy on a tiny length of uninsulated pipe. Unlike a water leak which seems to squirts further the small the hole is. -

In mine, there are many mansions You can calculate heat loss the same way that you do for a walk or floor. U-value x area x temperature difference. -

And leaks are very easy to fix. -
Returning a used washing machine?
SteamyTea replied to Dan1983's topic in Kitchen & Household Appliances
I have a washer-dryer. Saves having a separate dryer. Do you know if it is a heat pump dryer, they are pretty cheap to run. -
26 million meter, at 50p/day, works out at ~£4.8 billion. If there are 35 million tax payers, that is an extra £135/year each if it is taken from general taxation. Slightly less than the £150 some households have already been give, and a lot less than the £400 we are going to get. I think chasing the meter rental is tackling the problem from the wrong place. Maybe that extra money (approximately £2.4bn) would be better spent on installing more RE generation, rather than protecting the energy supplier from bad debt. Bad debt is an ordinary business cost and is probably not as high as the companies want to make us think it is.

Probably already got that on the PV side. So should be just a case of conditional counting. How is your ESP32 unit coming on?

If I was getting charged twice the amount for the same local services as others, I would be a bit narked. Would it not be better to allow more holiday homes to be built. I doubt that all the builders would come from upcountry, so should help the local economy. There are a lot of holiday lets that are currently empty down here. Seems market forces are coming into play. Holiday homes and holiday rentals cannot stay empty for long, the business suffers.
-
Is that because you can export? I cannot export (got no PV) so I can only have a flashing light, not one cone constantly. Though I can be off constantly when now power is being drawn (well below 3600 J). I am on Mk3 of my meter, basically on a nicer sensor, but with a temp sensor in it as well (so I know how hot the meter box gets).

Purely anecdotal, but seems to me that the "locals" that want to tax second home owners, also want to stop all new building. And stop business from opening and expanding.

If, for arguements sake, this off grid supplies a circuit or two in the house i.e. lights and DHW. There needs to be clears signs saying which circuits could be live, even when the main consumer unit is off. There are probably regulations for this already.

Good job we left the EU, stops us being at the financial bottom there.

Build a window opening that is the right size. Just kidding

Taking just electricity, and an consumption of 10 kWh a day, that would add 5p to the unit price, so around 40p/kWh. Still pretty cheap when you consider what you can do with it. Try pushing a 1 tonne car along a road for £9.6p BELOW minimum wage.

Why does this not apply to neighbours cars and vans? I have to pull into my drive at 14:02 every weekday, just as an intergenerational statement.

Openreach to start direct contact with customers
SteamyTea replied to Temp's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Generally a cheaper option as well. It does amaze me that people complain about their internet connection when there are a number of viable alternatives these days. And people that live really rurally and can't get a decent fixed line or mobile signal, well, what did they expect. -

MVHR with adiabatic cooling
SteamyTea replied to Garald's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
What is the volume of your house? That is what really sets the flow rate.
