  1. BC has now agreed to use of AAV Air Admittance Valve, which gets us out of a hole and should save a bit.

  2. My solution FYI is to use a standard galv metal tubular handrail [eg Brundle] [as in guard rails in old peoples homes], bolted to the side of the stairs. DDA hadrail will be attached to this structure. The whole will be clad in Scottish larch in 100/60 vertical overlap cladding to match that used elsewhere. This should be relatively cost effective, satisfy the SE, and be easy to construct. Pre-cast stair is under construction now.

  3. Northerner? I'm a soft, Southern, shandy drinker I'll have you know! Have been know to brave Passport Control & frequent the Halfway House on the A127 for Capri meets. Some interesting, related reading here about how fire bricks themselves are made. Powdered clay that can be melted, who knew! http://www.traditionaloven.com/articles/101/what-is-fire-clay-and-where-to-get-it

  5. Post? I'd have driven and met halfway or something. I'm only the other side of the bridge tbh.

  6. Or more realistically if looks fine until the first winter and them it slowly falls apart over the next 5-10, resulting in sporadic but heavy attacks of ear ache from Faye.

  8. Just remember that the reason for the old brick lining is to retain the heat and also the exploding bits when you don't get all of the air out of the clay the first time ...!!

  9. Why not build it in your workshop out of red rubbers & carve the design you want? Must be untold youtube videos showing how it's done.

  12. Tidy. I need 40 sheets mate. I'll send a van I bought a PB lift / hoist. I'm going to save about 4 times its cost on labour over the next 3 jobs as they all have ceilings to reboard. You can get them with a tilting bed to deal with vaulted ceilings but I just bought a good quality, robust straight one. Lugging 8.4t of PB 's isn't fun, but the knee sounds even less appealing . With 15mm, don't drop one directly on your foot as that'll smash most of the bones in it! They're heavy as hell. We're halfway through 15mm FB'ing a ceiling now and they're a doddle with the lift. I went for 15mm over 12 purely for extra sound deadening, but the extra 'robustness' is undeniable. I'll put roofing battens across these, at 90 degrees to the joists, to level the ceiling flat, then resilient bars, then 12mm acoustic PB. The idea being I can fit the slimline 6w and 9w LED lights wherever I want without compromising the fire barrier ( and no more baked bean can size GU10's for me ). Just fitted 5 in my boys bedroom and the light output is phenomenal, with a dispersion that spanks the arse off of any regular down lighter. ? @NSS, Thanks for the blog update, keep up the good work.

  13. Very interesting (and those shots of the insulation are very spaceship-like!). You certainly made some progress this month. Hope the knee works out OK.

  14. The gumtree one. Upgraded it to 16gb for £30. £480 in total with a 24" hdmi monitor ( used but good ) and he was a genuine nice guy so happy to part with the money. Water cooled and overclocked to 4.2 something or other ? I told my boy he's not getting it until 6th jan ( due to a big demand before Xmas lol ) but I've got it ready for him to open Xmas day. Gonna get a cooks match box and wrap it as his "opening present" ( given because he's not getting the PC lol ) with instructions inside about where to go look for it. ? Bingo. Edited to add : The PC was brand new and built fresh to requirement. All the boxes for the bits were supplied and the receipts came with them for the manufacturer warranty. It's only the monitor that was a second Seemed like a good price to me tbh.

  15. So here's the breakdown of what's in that WC (requested on PM): Read previous posts for details, best to compare 2-3 sites and then move forward on the one that's cheapest on the day (including shipping fees & discounts). Also note that not everyone has everything in stock at the same time, we prioritised first fix items such as Hansgrohe iBoxes and Geberit cisterns.
