Whilst waiting for the legal processes to go through I embarked on clearing the rear of the site and reducing the ground levels and building a 43 m long retaining wall. I made use of the digger to get the base in for the garden office. I actually built the garden office in sections one cold winters week in the living room of the house. 

I was unable to complete the garden office which will serve as site office and canteen during the build due to trying to avoid it getting demolished for free.

Bit extreme, I would have just redecorated.

Getting there slowly. The demo guy has found a buyer for the bricks so everything has slowed down somewhat. The engineer will be there to set out the foundations next Thursday so I hope they run out of pallets and crack on.

Why didn't the developer demolish it when building the estate? It looks incongruous and they could've fitted a couple of houses on the site.

I assume that house was there first, and the land around it sold, but the owner of this house stayed put?

I don't know to be honest. When they came to the end of the surrounding housing estate they would then have needed toast up a new compound and temporary offices and I guess on this scale the extra 2 houses are neither here or there. They had also had a bat survey in 2016 and they concluded that there was a brown long eared bat roost in the loft and they would have needed to have built a dedicated loft space for the bats which may not have been their top selling point.

Nearly done and it’s raining. Just in time for 10 loads away on Monday. That’ll keep the dust down. 

Top marks for the demo.

I am pleased they reused some of the bricks.  They look really clean on the pallets.

Nearly 11000 so far and counting. They are surprisingly good given their age.

I used to do brick cleaning many years ago. 
1750 a day cleaned & palleted was my target & used to hit it mainly. 
I was a young single man so my wrist strength was already high 😃

In some cases yes! Looked at an old farm house recently .. it was ugly, poorly built, could see any unique or even attractive features but listed! And the plot would have been fantastic for a knock down and build

I too tend to think far too many properties are listed, yes a few examples for history lessons but far better to allow demolition and control over their replacement to reflect aesthetics.

aaaaaand relax. I even managed to get the EPDM on today a couple of mins before the heavens opened. The engineer is scheduled to come tomorrow to set the foundations out but may cry off due to the incoming rain. If so he says he will come on Sunday. Digger Tuesday if the warranty company get their shit together.

I do like a Demo video. This one was put together by my daughter. Last one I promise.  Today we move on to excavations.
