Ed_MK
Well that tops off a really crap week! Just had the fitters come and fit the last doors ....INCLUDING the specially made aluminium bifold Of course like everything else outside the house ...it is in "chartwell green" ...UPVC doors, Windows, Rafter Feet, Fascia Board ....EVERYTHING Off i went to make them tea and butties and when i came back BOOM...WTF ...I hope thats plastic film i asked! >No my friend ....its the colour I said ...it is NOTHING like chartwell green >I agree my friend So why have i got it > We dont make these doors is aluminium you need to talk boss...is special made to order Yes i remember >and we gave your wife a colour swatch and a form to fill in why, just make them the same as the PVC ones you supplied >because they only do the RAL colour ..so you have to choose close match well she never picked this >ok , you call office, i am only fitter so after an hour.... i got a scan of the order and sure enough she wrote down swatch RAL 6021 which according to the internet is the closest RAL colour to chartwell bloody green but she SWEARS the swatch was nowhere near as dark as this So ...i am sure she cant live with it ....see picture .. They will not refund our £2k as we chose the colour So i guess we have to change the colour ourselves.... Anyone have any ideas? ...only the outside PS ANYONE ELSE WANTING TO FALL INTO THE CHARTWELL GREEN CLUB. REMEMBER THIS ....I HAS SPOKE TO A LOT OF PEOPLE AND CHARTWELL GREEN IS N-O-T A RECOGNISED COLOUR IT DOES N-O-T HAVE AN RGB OR CMYK VALUE ... WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT ANY COMPANY DOING A SIMILAR GREENY SHADE CAN CALL IT "CHARTWELL GREEN" SO BE AWARE ...IF YOU DONT GET A FINISHED PAINTED/COATED SAMPLE OF WHAT YOU WANT ...DO N-O-T BUY IT Edited December 23, 2018 by Ed_MK
Mr Punter
Aluminium is often powder coated and is very difficult to re-coat. I did enquire a few years ago when we were looking at an office to convert to resi. The place had a lot of blue powder coated windows and we were able to get a quote to have the colour changed, so it is possible but quite expensive. vivienz
Oooh, that is very different. Far greener, less grey. I can offer no advice, I'm afraid, only sympathy.
Ed_MK
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo B*LLS ...by the way ...if anyone out there has the same Chartwell Green UPVC ....(the other windows) Most (if not all) companies appear to use an identical PVC wrap .... and if you are painting wood to accompany it Use ... Weather shield Tuscan glade 3 xxxxxx-120Y (For satin) This MUST be painted with 2 coats on top of Weathershield White Primer (Medium Base) This will get you a near PERFECT match with your windows ... Trial and Error got me there ....so save yourself time and money on me !

In general powder coating is a real pain to re-coat, as you need to get back to bare metal in order to enable a good bond. Trying to powder coat on top of an existing finish will probably result in it just chipping or flaking off, plus the whole frame and door assembly would need to be stripped out and have all the glazing and fittings removed in order to be able to hang the bits up to charge them. We once had to re-powder coat a steel tube aircraft fuselage and ended up getting it bead blasted back to bare metal and starting again, after a couple of goes at just re-coating it. However, if the powder coat is polyester (which is most likely, I think) then you can often spray paint on top of it with a bit of careful surface prep. It would still mean stripping all the hinges, handles, glazing etc off, but the frame could be painted in situ I'd have thought. Might be a job for one of the mobile repair companies to have a go at, as they can usually match colours very well.
Onoff
Many years ago (87, 88?) I used to have to have "Syntha Pulvin" done. It was all the rage with architects. Basically posh polyester powder coating with various alleged guarantees. Tbh I used to present the genuine samples to the architect then get a local powder coater to do the bulk work. The thing is I could always get touch up pots with it.

wozza
The Builder who built a neighbours extension told me that they had ordered a UPVC window in the wrong colour and then had it painted to match by a specialist company. Try something like this: https://colourmywindows.com/ Part of the info : Colour My Windows by G I Sykes can re-spray uPVC, Composite and Aluminium doors, including Patio and Bi-Fold Doors. Extending their lifespan, brightening your home and giving you the highest quality finish. Edited December 23, 2018 by wozza

Not Quite ...it was 9.30PM and i could hardly see my own feet LOL
joe90
We had a problem with our “colour”, wife and I wanted “National trust olive green” but there is not just one of these but several slightly different ones, so, out came the iPad and chose RAL1000, yep, that’s it. Ordered the handmade wooden windows sprayed in RAL 1000 and when they arrived they were yellow!!!!. Turns out you should not choose colours from a computer screen (we know now) wife said “can we paint them”, not after I paid so much to get them sprayed (I hate painting). The upshot is we have grown to like the colour and everyone says it goes well with the red brick of the house. We had all the eves, porch and even the kitchen painted to match and thank god it has worked well. It’s an unusual colour but sits well with what we have. mvincentd
Generally also be aware that when co's say they can do any RAL colour it's rarely true because there's numerous RAL ranges and many suppliers don't even seem to realise they are actually only offering from say the RAL CLASSIC range....which is nothing like ALL of the RAL colours. HerbJ
Yvonne, my better half, was responsible for all interior design and colour selection. She bought a RAL Colour Wheel very early in the design process and carried it with her everywhere. She bought it on ebay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Original-Ral-K7-Color-Fan-Deck-Swatches-Classic-213-Colour-Tones-Newest-Version-/192590016704 She used it all the time for every decision involving colour or colour matching. She also had a bag of samples, containing a decent sample of everything we had selected for finishes - tiles, wooden flooring, paint sample sheets, curtains, sofa covering, etc etc. Again, that was dragged around show rooms. She never relied on colours on the computer - she always sent off for actual colour samples for everything she was interested in selecting. She still using the Colour Wheel for fabrics for cushions and window seats. We moved in two years ago...

Just a couple of thoughts - hire a photo spectrometer and pop it onto the colour you like (you can get this done free at some DIY stores if you have a sample as they can scan it), push the trigger and you can get all the colour info you need plus a load of other info you don't. Alternative would be to buy a stack of tinted glasses (Rose tint won't do it for green) which make all the green spectrum look grey and offer them to visitors, wear them constantly yourself of course. There will be a solution that does not involve a new window.

craig
Sorry just seen this and may have already been dealt with, we use two companies for aluminium paint repairs / recovering. Spray Clad & Magicman, both give 10 year gaurantees on the finish and will colour match.
