BotusBuild Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago One of the things we paid someone to do for us.  Spines are powder coated. Cabling for lights runs inside the spines. Steps made from walnut kitchen worktops. Spindles are solid walnut. Glass is 10mm toughened from Cornwall Glass.  Why walnut? It goes with the breakfast bar made from the walnut tree we cut down, also made by same person (Principle Constructions based in Cornwall).  4
-rick- Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Nice! Â Thats the first time I've seen the transparent blocking approach to having an open stair that complies with regs. Be interested how that works out (cleaning, etc). Â Handrail to be installed on the right?
BotusBuild Posted 4 hours ago Author Posted 4 hours ago No plans for a handrail at this point in time

MPH243 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago (edited) I like the walnut and that it came from your tree. It is also very different colour from nearly all the other stairs you see now. Edited 2 hours ago by MPH243 1
crispy_wafer Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago That’s interesting, and very nice, you must be pleased and proud of that?  It’s nice you’ve incorporated something you chopped down too. 1
Big Jimbo Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Looks fab. Well done. Just make sure you coat the timber with something that is UV resistant. Otherwise, in the same way as Mapel turns a bit orange in the sun. Your Walnut will "Fade to Grey" as the song said.
crispy_wafer Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Can I ask how you lifted the stairs.  I’ve got a steel mono spine and, on my own trying to work out methods to lift and manoeuvre.
