JohnBishop Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 Hi All, I keep wondering what is the purpose of this pedestal. It's in the living room next to the old fireplace but this was replaced with a gas heater I believe decades ago. Is this some sort of stand? There is nothing above it.
Brickie Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 A photo from further back to give context within the room might help. What age is the property? 1
ProDave Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 To stand your great big heavy 26" CRT television on. Yes seriously. Posh people had a matching one the other side for the gramophone to sit on. 2 1
Radian Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 (edited) Looks like my mum's old house. All the rage in the 70's. Agreed - masonry TV stand. Edit: to be fair to dear old mum & dad, theirs was real sandstone and had a superb chunk of teak on top - about 1.5" thick... Edited December 5, 2022 by Radian 2
Roundtuit Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 Yep, knocked one of those out in our first house. Then chased out the wall and rewired the plug socket to get it down to a sensible height... 1

JohnBishop Posted December 5, 2022 Author Posted December 5, 2022 Will it support my domestic nuclear reactor? Is it hollow inside?

Got to be worth £600 a month to a desperate Millennium. They need somewhere to stay before going to work in the phone shop.
JohnBishop Posted December 6, 2022 Author Posted December 6, 2022 (edited) Does it look better now? Unfortunately I haven't found any precious items, dead bodies or mummies. Just a big Black Spider of The Tomb. Now I have on sale solid prefabricated corners and walls. Let me know if interested. Edited December 6, 2022 by JohnBishop 1

The rest of the empty space behind the VCR is stuffed with secret tapes I reckon.
