Thank you, we will. TBF it is very unusual to have 3 phase in a house in this area unless it's a farmhouse. I agree he was very much selling.
-
I have been so gullible through this self build and it's been expensive. My gut has been useless. What are your alarm bells, I get the chicken wire is one. Does it have to be a minimum 6kw system because we are 3 phase. The electrician was going to put the house electrics on one phase so do we need a 3 phase inverter or can we have a one phase inverter?
-
Because we are having a corrugated roof and it's going on next week, tbh the solar panels we weren't intending putting on. There are always people at home at least 2 adults and although the roof isn't south facting its not far off.

So had guy raound from a local solar firm today. He seemed a trustworthy sort. He was at first sceptical we actually had a three phase supply until I showed him it. Then he said we would have to get a minimum of 6kw and could go up to 12kw. He also said we should get a battery so a hybrid inverter and that we would be paid 14p for each kw sold to the grid (price resets in September). I said the 12kw might be too expensive for us but he said economies of scale and we would be surprised. He also suggested we use this microgeneration converter for an immersion but I thought it was better to use the ashp? Said they use chicken wire round the panels to keep the birds out if we wanted.

I explained to him we really didn't want a ventilated cooker hood so he needs to upgrade what he had planned - fair wnough. "Have u an idea the litres per second that it requires For a normal kitchen it's 13 l/s min ! again this can go up depending on floor area" Anyone know? There are relatively few passive or near passive standard houses here. It's a learning curve for many, even very good people.

What meter should I ask for? I see you are on economy 7 .

Brilliant result. Well done. Do you mind me asking, have you used a recirculating cooker hood or is it vented? -
Sorry again for all the questions. *Embarrassed So situation is putting 5kw - 7kw ?solar panels up while scaffold in situ intend adding a battery in 6 months 10 kw ashp (should we put up more solar panels like 10kw?) house is 244.7 m2 Ceilings are high. we have a 3 phase supply What meter should we get? Economy 7 is from 2am to 9 am or just get a tariff It's a lot to process when you know nowt!

Hello, where could I find a copy of the paperwork that I need to submit to my electric provider to get the g98. The electrician will fill it in but he asked me to get the paperwork. I asked the guy at the power company in ni did he have to be mcs registered he said no. Roofers will mount them electrician will connect them. Just unsure how much to put up 5kw or 7kw.

This is so helpful. I was going to buy spots or downlights and will now make sure the bulb can be swapped out and will avoid LAP. Thank you.

Money is a factor and getting to the finishing line but still it's tempting.

So joiners are coming back to put extra battens on the smaller of the 2 roofs so we can put up solar panels at some stage. Then they are fitting the metal roof. We might put the panels up while the scaffolding is up but I don't know whether to hold off because pv news is full of incredible percentages of solar efficiency to come. Oh and we are doing the pir in the floor and using an ashp. My question is what distance should we have the battens to suit whatever panels that may be available in the future? Also am I stupid for not putting extra battens on main roof too to allow it to be used for solar in the future especially as we have a 3 phase connection?

Should we go with kingspan or it pumped?

Sigh, I think most people hearts are in the right place it's just we all tend to do what is tried and tested, wwhat we know. The MVHR guy told me today he met a 71 year old woman who is planning a house with no heating because she was assured it would work. He said he sees her wearing a warm coat when it's twenty degrees and thinks it will be a disaster. -

Thanks Declan, but would the compression thing ok? Height is 2585 (see below). I got a price for Kingspan ThermaBoard TF70 / TP10 2400 X 1200 X 75mm Sheet - 1.00 30.32 Each 30.32 ZICSFB010 Kingspan ThermaBoard TF70 / TP10 2400 X 1200 X 150mm Sheet - 1.00 55.18 Each 55.18 -
Right, gonna get some at these prices and with scaffold up I would be daft not to. Please tell me which, minimum 5kw and we will have a corrugated roof. Saw these, any use? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/375313125698?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338365712&toolid=20006&customid=EB208005756&

Thanks Declan, I have been watching you tube to understand this better. So you put the membrane down to stop it going in between any gaps (although it should be taped) and effectively tank it. So then the ufh goes down. One question, the fixings or staples? to hold the pipes in place - surely they piecer the membrane? Also architect told us "Provide Cemfloor liquid screed, depth to ensure a minimum of 25mm cover to underfloorheating pipes - to be confirmed with manufacturer (Laid in Strict Accordance to Manufacturers Specification) on 500 guage vapour barrier (all joints taped & sealed) laid over 150mm depth of PIR Kingspan, floorboard insulation made up in 2 layers with bottom layer 50mm depth & top layer 100mm depth on 150mm deep concrete floor slab" so only 25mm allowed for pipes? I doesn't sound much. Thats the height we have to play with. Also spark saying he would like to wire sockets from floor since ceilings high (less chasing etc) -

OMG I finally twigged what is happening here thanks to you lot! All these near passive houses instead of putting the PIR down as directed people are putting down TLA. So everything else is undermined. Then when people complain how much the ashp is costing in electric they blame the ashp. On top of that people there are insufficient people here trained to install or service them. Solar panel and battery R&D is moving at a fierce pace so putting in either now feel crazy. (PV news new cell up to 144%) So here I am still getting told to put in an condenser burner and use TLA and put up old hat solar panels to compensate the SAP by 40%. Jesus, Mary, St Joseph and the wee donkey. Well for fecking starters there is no way TLA is goiing down. None. Nada. Oh yeah I was told too that PIR was sit because it was hard to cover all the pipes and sometimes it dropped. Is that because the builders suppliers told me builders that are using it for the floor are using ordinary PIR not the floor stuff with the better compression figures? Side query, how likely is it there will be a leak in the UFH? Are radiators not safer? Chill woman dear. -
I looked at our kychen plains and think they are too fussy. Simplifying it for symmetry. so then island has dishwasher and drawes and overhang for high chairs. S9 could we have a row of 3 pan drawers the whole way on the outer wall with a kitchen sink one up from the end? Thinking of the way they do those u shaped vanity drawers.

Good point! I need to get on to sky, virgin and BT to see what they require us to do to facilitate future service through a duct by any of them. Has anyone any previous experience of this? -
Excellent links, thanks. So hitting this issue ourselves. We do a lot of stir frying and I have a well used chip pan, in the past recirculaing hood have proved miserable and inadequate for our usage. Rather than undoing everything with effectively a hole in the wall, what about this? https://luxairhoods.com/Cooker-Hood-Ducting-150mm/cooker-hoods-outside-vents-grilles-external/Airtight-Ducting-System-Kits/New-ducting-Thermobox-150mm-heat-retention

Sister told me I should get the spark to put the connection for them beside the big window at the staircase. Where do you put it? It's a tall rectangle? Anything else I forgot?
-
I know people who have been in a new build passive house in the republic who are thinking of ripping out their ashp because of astronomical electric bills. Yes it's in likely badly but surely the house should be a decent temp without too much heat?
-
Jeez Our builder (a plumber) really has a bad opinion of ashp and says climate here is too damp and to use oil. I am worried about the electric bills.Anyway I got a quote from suggesting we install a Grant Aerona³ R32 What do you think of the brand? Oh it's 10kw
