Discount Offers of the Week
CalvinHobbes replied to Ferdinand's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
So we managed to buy quite a bit of amtico from auctions through ibidder and it's arrived and looks good. OK still have to get it laid but got a lot off. First experience of using an auction but apart from the note to self - picking up from Sheffield is the pits because access was so bad, overall a good experience. -
Wireless Burglar Alarm
CalvinHobbes replied to richo106's topic in Networks, AV, Security & Automation
I was put off installing an alarm since if you tell your insurance company you have one and it wasn't set when you were burgled they can decline to pay out. -

That's an internal photo and the other side of that lintel is external onto the porch. The builder is saying he will effectively make another wall outside.

Iceverge what are you thinking, should the door move? How hard would that be to do? I know the frame is hardwood. So bring it in a bit? I am looking at that plan and am unsure.

The Building control officer also pointed out we were not using approved plans which was 'not great'. Like yikes! The ones we have from the architect were blessed by a structural engineer so I hoped would suffice and as the bc said, they are allowed (didn't sound ecstatic). Anyway I found some older pics and here is the part of the plan too. TBF I do appreciate the bc flagging up things, the builder assured me he had a plan to deal with it anyway and was sorry he missed the BC officer.

Hello, sheesh thought I would come on and ask advice yet again. Building control was out and said we appear to have a massive cold bridge at door. So the metal beam goes over the door and connects to another that meets a post going up (was that a wind post) so forming a sideways L shape shape. The cavity is behind it. Bit scunnered tbh. There was a change of builders and the second ones are having to fix things . Bah. Feel free to tell me something good.

Who could I send my plans to so we can get the plumbing done to suit the ASHP so pipe sizes and radiators, ground floor is correctly sized and we can get on with it while shopping around for the actual pump or even go 2nd hand? A lot are ripping them out I hear due to crazy electric bills. Ni hasn't got its grants in place yet, nor sufficient trained installers. The plumbers merchants told us we would need a 10kw ashp so looking on eBay just to see!

We are opening a door from a bedroom to a toilet to make it ensuite but to save room I was thinking of using a pocket door. However they are costly. So now thinking I could use 2 half vertical doors like a wardrobe. How do I describe this or what do I look for?

I said to all to use recirculating hood not vented but was asked what if we used this? Obviously I don't want to compromise our near passive standards.

Do you mind me asking, how do you heat your water? -
Stairs - before or after tiling?
CalvinHobbes replied to kandgmitchell's topic in Floor Tiles & Tiling
does this include if you are using AMTICO SPACIA LVT SPICED TIMBER FLOORING (its only 2.5mm? Also thinking about using a metal staircase to stop squeaks , not sure how that would land on the floor. Will carpet it. -

How many commando sockets 1 or more?
CalvinHobbes replied to CalvinHobbes's topic in Electrics - Other
So you fail the meter guy if you fit 1? -
Hiya, how many commando sockets can you put in a temporary supply (single phase 16v) to obey building regs?
