  1. Thanks the spark messaged me today to say he sorted it. I am heading over tomorrow to await network guys who will in theory connect a meter and we will be rocking. Will take a pic and update. Cheers.
  2. Honestly, no point. I just need to sort it. Exasperating though. I have had so many of these nasty surprises to fix Sheesh. Thats a good idea, will ponder. Cheers.
  3. Honestly, feeling like banging my head against the wall. The £$%^ that put this in did it fecking wrong. He handed me the door and said to take it away or it would get broke. The electrician went to put on the door today and its upside fecking down so the pins that hold on the door by gravity are arse about face. When the network guys come on Thursday when they unlock it - it will fall off. The pins are embedded in the door. How can we attach the door? I really try not to swear but there are times.....
  4. That's worrying when he is telling me it's 11.6! Thanks.
  5. How did that go? Our architect planned in radiators upstairs but where we live now which isn't passive we never have the heat on upstairs. I am thinking we could do like you and lose the radiators upstairs just keeping the ashp downstairs.
  6. I can see he hasn't specified the make of the panels, plus we dont need the eddi since we will have an ashp. Also we will hold off on batteries. I would like one of those switches that means we can use our own electric if the neighbourhood electric is shut off. What should I ask him? Scaffolding already there.
  7. Thanks to ye all. Mea culpa. I misunderstood the electrician re the three phase. I got them talking and all sorted. Well sort of...we agreed stage 1 which was to get the panels on the roof while scaffold up. Stage 2 is the inverter. 11.6kw going up.
  8. So went to the fire station. After a debate they agreed what they would do is put them in the utility room with a heat sensor. As long as branded batteries installed by MCs then grand.
  9. I think we will just put up a 6kw array and in the future plan to up that to 12 and put a battery in was thinking lippy I hear they are due to release a 3 phase battery. Just planning ahead. Unsure of battery. Have asked that the inverter be 3 phase and hybrid. Just wondering about the tesla powerwall, it can be outside. I wonder how it does in -5 degrees and with 3 phase?
  10. The solar guy said we should not put the battery outside since doing so in our wet cold location will mean it will discharge, (he wants the meter and batteries in the utility room)having had an electric car, a little zoe over a winter I can see what he means. That said the electrician is adamant we dont put it inside saying battery fires are terrible (He wants the meter in the cupboard behind the porch). We don't have a garage. So I was thinking we could put it in the porch but that is open on one side and outside the thermal envelope The electrican wants to put it outside in some sort of hut. Oh and thanks I have gone back and asked for the 3 phase inverter that is hybrid and acceptable to give energy to the grid.
  11. Thank you so much, right will contact them and enlighten the spark.
  12. The meter will be 3 phase but the electrician said he was using one phase in the main house itself for safety. The other phases will be available for charging the car. He has a massive thing about earthing. The house is 2600 and included a granny annexe. 5 adults will live in it. 5 ensuites . 10kw ashp apparently (though I think that seems overkill) I would like to be able to add panels in the future. I have requested the meter install so they will be in touch Monday to arrange.
  13. Thank you, we will. TBF it is very unusual to have 3 phase in a house in this area unless it's a farmhouse. I agree he was very much selling.
  14. I have been so gullible through this self build and it's been expensive. My gut has been useless. What are your alarm bells, I get the chicken wire is one. Does it have to be a minimum 6kw system because we are 3 phase. The electrician was going to put the house electrics on one phase so do we need a 3 phase inverter or can we have a one phase inverter?
  15. Because we are having a corrugated roof and it's going on next week, tbh the solar panels we weren't intending putting on. There are always people at home at least 2 adults and although the roof isn't south facting its not far off.
  16. So had guy raound from a local solar firm today. He seemed a trustworthy sort. He was at first sceptical we actually had a three phase supply until I showed him it. Then he said we would have to get a minimum of 6kw and could go up to 12kw. He also said we should get a battery so a hybrid inverter and that we would be paid 14p for each kw sold to the grid (price resets in September). I said the 12kw might be too expensive for us but he said economies of scale and we would be surprised. He also suggested we use this microgeneration converter for an immersion but I thought it was better to use the ashp? Said they use chicken wire round the panels to keep the birds out if we wanted.
  17. I explained to him we really didn't want a ventilated cooker hood so he needs to upgrade what he had planned - fair wnough. "Have u an idea the litres per second that it requires For a normal kitchen it's 13 l/s min ! again this can go up depending on floor area" Anyone know? There are relatively few passive or near passive standard houses here. It's a learning curve for many, even very good people.
  18. What meter should I ask for? I see you are on economy 7 .
  19. Brilliant result. Well done. Do you mind me asking, have you used a recirculating cooker hood or is it vented?
  20. Sorry again for all the questions. *Embarrassed So situation is putting 5kw - 7kw ?solar panels up while scaffold in situ intend adding a battery in 6 months 10 kw ashp (should we put up more solar panels like 10kw?) house is 244.7 m2 Ceilings are high. we have a 3 phase supply What meter should we get? Economy 7 is from 2am to 9 am or just get a tariff It's a lot to process when you know nowt!
  21. Hello, where could I find a copy of the paperwork that I need to submit to my electric provider to get the g98. The electrician will fill it in but he asked me to get the paperwork. I asked the guy at the power company in ni did he have to be mcs registered he said no. Roofers will mount them electrician will connect them. Just unsure how much to put up 5kw or 7kw.
  22. This is so helpful. I was going to buy spots or downlights and will now make sure the bulb can be swapped out and will avoid LAP. Thank you.
  23. Money is a factor and getting to the finishing line but still it's tempting.
  24. So joiners are coming back to put extra battens on the smaller of the 2 roofs so we can put up solar panels at some stage. Then they are fitting the metal roof. We might put the panels up while the scaffolding is up but I don't know whether to hold off because pv news is full of incredible percentages of solar efficiency to come. Oh and we are doing the pir in the floor and using an ashp. My question is what distance should we have the battens to suit whatever panels that may be available in the future? Also am I stupid for not putting extra battens on main roof too to allow it to be used for solar in the future especially as we have a 3 phase connection?
