Sorry looking at the plans and see this 'Door Leaf 2040 x 826' does that mean that is the size of the door we need to buy? Started looking, jeez the glass ones are dear. I take it the solid ones are best re sound insulation? Anywhere in particular is good to use? Obviously are on a tight budget so swanky is out.

Why are bats so protected? They host the most goddamn awful disease. I thought ebola came from bats in equatorial guinea and bats near wuhan harbour ebola. -
Seriously, some landlords deserve misery.

I used to love a gas hob but now, especially in an airtight property I will skip it. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/jun/20/gas-stoves-benzene-levels-study#:~:text=measure benzene indoors.-,Even low doses of airborne benzene raise the risk of,gas stove is turned off. -

It doesn't matter what the rules say, if a landlord can sift through cv's they will hardly pick anyone who isn't 'two working professionals who don't have a dog, kids or smoke'. I appreciate why but it's still crap for the many decent people who don't fit into that box. The answer I reckon is to turn many offices into residential. People I meet are constantly telling me they don't want to go back to office based working. I appreciate repurposing buildings isn't easy either. -

I was told around here there are 300+ applications for rental homes and the owners go through effective c.v's and no dogs no dhss is common. We got this rental through the architect and we have a dog. -
I just was reading through and although the name on the invoices was mine, my mother did pay for some cement. Darn, does that mean we can't reclaim the VAT? I wonder if I could get her name added to the invoice with mine? She will be living with us. Or could I get it reinvoiced in her name and she could claim for that bit?

So we are approaching first floor. The scaffolding went up yesterday and they provided us with a platform. The brickie told me he had a licence to drive a forklift and they are a good price if you hire them by the week. I know ideally we would have a teleporter but how much can a forklift lift? The blocks come in 2 rows so is that too heavy? Should I get the lorry driver to drop single rows on lots of pallets? How many pallets would I need to recieve a full load of blocks she wonders? Digger went today, almost sad to see it go.

What exactly does this mean?

Thank you. Really, that helps so much. I was going back to that roofer because he has a really good reputation and we want him to update his quote for the corrugated galvanised steel. We saw it on another house done by our architect and it was excellent. -

Ah right adhd leaves me struggling with the way certain things are phrased. Cheers. -
I have been asking for roof quotes and got these words 'Supply and fit pvc single ply roof with a welded standing seam' What does that mean? I get it means he single ply wood and the standing seam. Does it also include the other joinery up there like the rafters? Or is that a separate joiner who does that? It's confusing because I have a joiner who is offering to' leave it ready for whatever roof covering is going on so that includes the vertical covering front and back.' So both seem to be offering to do the ply. Sorry for all the daft questions.

Sorry in Derry or Londonderry whatever rocks anyones boat. I have't told mum yet, still trying to find a solution. I emailed Brian Mc Auley MD in Haldane too. Murdocks was nearly twice the price of Haldane, just waiting to hear back from them mc blairs and quinns. -

can you build up past the joists and add them later? -
I just phoned up to see when we would get our posi joists (expecting 2 weeks) and he old us we hadn't officially ordered and it would be mid August. I had told him weeks ago we were going ahead. So scunnered. Don't know what to do. I would change to i joists if it were possible to keep the building on track. Very upset at this. the delay especially will effect my 85 year old mum a cancer patient. So sorry I trusted them.

So going for option 1 a Vent Axia High Flow (4 x 180mm spigots)going into a 262m2 2 story house. Optional extras include a vent axia digital controller - hard wired and a 1 gang momentary boost switch x 7 (presumably there should be a boost switch in every shower room/loo/the kitchen)? Has it got a good enough reputation?

Thanks Conor, BPC have given us the layout so I am fairly confident it should stick. It was just the elevation I was unsure of - thinking just under ceiling height will do. The layout said they had to be 1.5m apart. The other thing was the actual pipe to put through the 20mm cavity walls. It says on the plan it needs to be 180mm in diameter so tried to get one locally today - no joy. Gonna have to go to BPC in Larne tomorrow morn to get some. Bah.

So block and block 200mm cavity and need frame ties. We just got windposts up.It's a near passive house, is there anything special I should look out for? Any implications re thermal bridging?

How much of this stuff should be used for mortar? We are above ground and don't want to buy too much.
