Hi, so we are going up with block and a 200mm cavity. We are obviously intent on keeping the cavities clean. Any tips? I read this thread, will it work on ours? (We tidy, clean snots and take pics, 🐕 brought dog which is very confused where our old home went)

Help (wee voice). So we were supposed to be having the brickies back tomorrow but I am thinking of putting them off because I don't think we have enough stuff. We have the slab poured and next stage is mannock bricks and dpm. So attached is the Typical Jam Detail and Typical Head detail. 1)When will I need the Pro Clima Tescon Varna tape? At what stage? 2)Is there an equivalent performing substitute that is a better price? 3)What width & length ishould I order? (I was going to order 50 rolls but don't know which). I have read where you order from Germany and will do that. 4)Can I order roof membrane the same way to make a saving, will rooofers allow me to supply the membrane? Input gratefully received!!

Scaffold external then internal
CalvinHobbes replied to CalvinHobbes's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I will be getting it erected properly and inspected every week with a ticket issued. Its just we will own the scaffold so the price is reduced. -
Hello, the architect has specified mannock 215mm high 7.5N blocks for a course at the base. Does anyone know another equivalent? The local builders merchants off 5n or 7n which isn't 7.5n.

A friend had offered to do our electrics, he is an excellent electrician and used to run a sizeable business. I know he needs part p certification (he has that) but is there anything else official he would need? I know he wouldn't have insurance but is that necessary? What would he need to sign - presumably something for building control?

Hello, so now thinking of buying scaffolding. The rear of the property is single storey so the brickie said a lift and a half and middle section is 3 lifts and the very front 4 lifts. Inside the house upstairs the ceilings are valted so high there too. We will be doing a lot of the internal airtightness work ourselves (which is considerable) so if we owned it, the time pressure would be reduced. Brickie today suggested for me to buy it and get someone who is trained to erect it and sign it off. (The very experienced groundsman said he could do it easily but I don't think he has a licence so I would need someone else to check it). Block work estimated at 6 weeks then the carpentry/roof/solar panels/guttering. What do you think?

Digger ran over generator lead
CalvinHobbes replied to CalvinHobbes's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Thankfully we have a no b/s groundman who I really do have total faith in. Tbf the digger driver is very good too, I keep getting told it by contractors. I fessed up immediately to the hire shop. Right will do as you say and will save the spare bit. Much appreciated. -
Sheesh so the digger ran over the cable so the hire company will invoice me for it. I will keep the damaged one, I take it the safest thing is to just lose the part that was severed and move the plug to the new end? Like joining it even covering with heat shrink tubes would be a bit crap?

We saw it working, it has a handle start. The guy said to get oil (showed us the level for the dipstick) and leave it beside it. I know its engine oil but was about to go to halfords to get some, any particular kind? Thanks. Yup I need to get diesel too, they will be there at 8, the digger will position it. How much diesel should I get, tomorrow is only 2 men 1 day then a lull for 2 weeks till bison slabs arrive. Guy also said at end to call him after we are done with it and he would likely buy it back. (He was refused planning for a self build and they are fighting it). Ssssh don't ask me how much we paid because you will say we could have done better lol.

So waiting for bison slabs for our new build. Budget tight. Another birthday is approaching and I was thinking of suggesting to the family to chip into makita tools. Our groundsman was saying you can swap the £100 batteries for parkside at £50. Any thoughts?

Quote for integrated solar panels? Whatcha think?

I thought the g99 was not needed for 3 phase? -
This is what I received, mcs registered and guarantee 25 years "So with single phase you will be limited to a 5.88kW system (x14 panels) This system in-roof is priced at £6500 fully installed. A 5kW battery would be a good starting point and then you can add additional batteries in the future - this battery is priced at £3000. With three phase you are allowed up to a 15kW (x36 panels) This may be slightly large as it would be a small scale commercial system... but you could go for an 8kW (x20 panels) This system is priced at £9000 fully installed. Again either a 5kW or 10kW battery would be advised - 5kW would be £3000, 10kW would be £5500. "

Mitsubushi or Panasonic ASHP?
CalvinHobbes replied to CalvinHobbes's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
Thanks. Do you think they would be suitable with 3 phase? We have a pole in our garden and am seriously tempted. -
