Do we pay vat for the survey and setting out?
CalvinHobbes replied to CalvinHobbes's topic in Surveyors & Architects
Yikes so if I had if got the setting out as part if the land survey it could have been zero rated but because I didn't they can now charge me and I can't claim it back? -
Hiya, newbuild, should we be paying vat for the land survey and setting out (4 pins at corners)?

Cement mixer hire or buy?
CalvinHobbes replied to CalvinHobbes's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
We are paying the builder by the block and he won't supply the cement mixer. We hired a diesel one for a few weeks to get underneath done but really, it's dead money. Hoping to have our old generator working soon but thinking we do need a bigger one. -
Darn, there is a 3 phase pole beside us (stay in our garden) and we are thinking of getting it. We have been recommended a 11kw ashp, electric shower and 5 showers (don't ask). Hadn't thought of the heat pump having to be 3 phase. Is there a big cost difference?
-
So we have 2 houses to put up and the best rental price is 45 pw. Guessing we will need it for a minimum of 14 weeks. Tempted to buy one and sell it at the end. Whatcha think?

Waiting for the equally antique generator to be serviced (villiers engine) and wondered could I put on a standard 13 amp plug on this wonch and test it? The only thing is there are 3 brown wires and one yellow/green. How do I wire it?

Brilliant. Thanks to all.

Hi, I was going through my dad's old stuff and found these. It needs a plug, does it have to be a round one to go into a generator or could it be a standard one that we could power via a temporary consumer unit? We will need to get material up to 1st floor.

We will have a 3 phase pole in our garden and if we want 3 phase we would need to say now. I am tempted purely to be able to fast charge a car which I think would be useful going forward. But on the other hand cost??? Also I presume we wouldn't be able to avail of off peak. I checked and I know the unit cost is the same a single phase so its the installation which will be rather yikes. I suppose that would include paying for a transformer?

Is this network electric connection ok?
CalvinHobbes replied to CalvinHobbes's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Thanks I deffo will, just to firm up what I am asking from the customer proposal map it looks like a red line which appears to be 11KV, does that sound like it? What should I be aiming for? The planner fella a while back on the phone indicated he would do the best he could for us and would use a thicker wire. (He obviously didn't use that terminology lol). -
Hiya, there is a 3 phase pole behind us which is being moved but in addition we need a connection off it for the 2 houses. I was reading the technical sheet they sent out, it said "The supply will be alternating current having a declared voltage of 230 Volts, single phase and neutral with a frequency of 50 hertz" will that do? Thinking of charging an electric car as well as running the house. Like is that the biggest connection you can get without going 3 phase?
