  1. Brilliant. Thanks to all.
  2. I thought you cant use economy 7/off peak on 3 phase?
  3. Hi, I was going through my dad's old stuff and found these. It needs a plug, does it have to be a round one to go into a generator or could it be a standard one that we could power via a temporary consumer unit? We will need to get material up to 1st floor.
  4. Oh goodness I hadn't thought of a hot air gun. Thanks. Did you use a roller?
  5. We will have a 3 phase pole in our garden and if we want 3 phase we would need to say now. I am tempted purely to be able to fast charge a car which I think would be useful going forward. But on the other hand cost??? Also I presume we wouldn't be able to avail of off peak. I checked and I know the unit cost is the same a single phase so its the installation which will be rather yikes. I suppose that would include paying for a transformer?
  6. Groundsman has told me I will be getting the job of folding the radon barrier and I am sure he mentioned it needs cut. Someone else had told me ages ago not to cut it, just fold. Bit confused and don't want to look up wrong info. Can you tell me best practice?
  7. Thanks I deffo will, just to firm up what I am asking from the customer proposal map it looks like a red line which appears to be 11KV, does that sound like it? What should I be aiming for? The planner fella a while back on the phone indicated he would do the best he could for us and would use a thicker wire. (He obviously didn't use that terminology lol).
  8. Hiya, there is a 3 phase pole behind us which is being moved but in addition we need a connection off it for the 2 houses. I was reading the technical sheet they sent out, it said "The supply will be alternating current having a declared voltage of 230 Volts, single phase and neutral with a frequency of 50 hertz" will that do? Thinking of charging an electric car as well as running the house. Like is that the biggest connection you can get without going 3 phase?
  9. So many questions, sorry again for asking but which do you reckon?
  10. Getting a price for lintels and he just asked me would we want deep or thin sills and how are we closing the cavity? (he said something about core bridge?? and 4x3 and 6 x 4 and plasterboard was useless to screw up.
  11. Did you have to get special lintels?
  12. So complete newbie and just trying to get the timeline in my head for when I need the underfloor insulation. It's block build and we will have underfloor heating. So presumably the walls and roof go on first but still should I buy it sooner and try somewhere to store it.
  13. So we are out of the ground and have a lot of building to do. With prices being what they are and inflation, we are focusing on the essentials. We would however like to put in PV at a future date and read the other day an article about a new way of printing them which should make them cheaper in the future and presumably fit on lighter roofs?. So I guess it makes sense to leave whatever wire/cable/emt in through the wall. Any tips? If we had green deal in NI I would be tempted.
  14. What are the methods to lift blocks up on a site? Looking at the most cost effective options. What about a winch? My dad (deceased) left one in a container. I know he used it years ago on a site.
  15. Site tidied up too, don't ask how many lorry loads had to go. Got brickies lined up for Tuesday.
  16. Conor, you should be writing a useful tips book for newbies like me. That's another one I have saved to the appropriate file.
  17. The house will be block built have 150mm floor insulation and 200mm eps fill in walls, block build with triple glazing, air tight, wet plaster. The architect has planned underfloor heating, MVHR and ASHP but I was reading about the Daikin Multi + possibly with a battery to store off peak. Is that bonkers? Tbh trying to cut costs, got a plumbing quote for 22k.
  18. I was told today by the surveyor that when the build is complete, you can claim developer exclusion from rates for a year. People in the rates office may not tell you of this!
  19. With so many banks and companies on shaky ground, how do we know warranty providers will exist? Thinking of using CMLC Ltd. Is there a guarantee scheme?
  20. Just wondering, did you ask your architect? We have a quote for CMLC Ltd for 2k and I am wondering how much the architects charge for a cert and if it's as good? Also I have a notion houses started before the end of 2022 - even if demolishing don't need warranty by law but those who start 2023 are obliged to have a warranty. Did I dream that?
  21. Just wondering which kind of roof to put on the house and price is a factor. Anyway, was in Lidl in a heavy downpour and the noise would deafen you. Is it the same in domestic properties? This is what's on the plans. To underside of sloped and flat ceilings provide 15mm plasterboard with skim finish fixed to 35 x 50mm s/w battens to provide 50mm deep service cavity over Pro Clima Intello Plus airtight vapour control memebrane with all joints lapped min 150mm & sealed with Pro Clima Tescon Vana airtight adhesive tape on 50mm thick Xtratherm / Kingspan PIR rigid insulation board (t/c 0.022W/mk) fixed in accordance with the manufacturers instructions to underside of the rafters. Airtight barrier to be turned down wall and sealed per manufacturers recommendations. Completely fill between rafters with Isover Metac Roll 031 (t/c 0.031W/mk).
