  1. I think you use a Dropbox thing called a 'shared link', which lets anyone with the link access the file. Thusly: https://www.dropbox.com/help/files-folders/view-only-access I think they can download but I have not tested it. Will test without being logged in if you post one. F
  2. Numbers file would be a .csv . If the Gaffer has banned .xls that would be due to virus potential etc. One bodge is to change the file type, and people who download change it back to .xls. Or upload elsewhere and link. I think you can set a file to be public on Dropbox or Google Drive. Ferdinand
  3. At the moment I am pleased because I received news of my local council enforcing on a landlord for letting out property with an F level EPC. By all accounts the chap is in something of a frenzy because they seem to be looking at the entire 10+ portfolio. Small steps but a start. Ferdinand
  4. Surely the Water Board are a statutory consulted? So if they have not responded adequately...
  5. So .. bought one of the 2.8kw electric ones this morning for just around £90 (Qualcast / Argos), and it was happy to shred probably 80% of all the stuff. Shredded some of the stuff already in the skip, which made enough space that the shredded remainder (except obvious fire wood) would fit in the space created thereby. @recoveringacademic will be keeping a couple of bulk bags full back so that I have some available if I need any. The shredder is adequate for branches up to about 40mm, and just needs not to be driven too hard. I can see me having this, and a secondhand lower end petrol powered one able to do things up to about 3-4" - and not one of the middle sized ones. Thanks for all the help. Ferdinand
  6. Yes. Done that before. On that occasion cut down 30 20 year old beaches and the beast shredded them in 2 hours giving me much less mulch than expected. F
  7. I am not sure. Necessary evils to be used only when necessary imo.
  8. I have just had the salutary experience of a skip only absorbing about half as much brashing as expected, despite careful packing. SO I may need another skip, or an alternative. So I am starting to wonder about shredders, for better packing next time and to be able to fit a lot more into the garden waste bin. My need is to be able to shred material from hedges and trees up to the size I can cut myself ... if it is a big tree the treeman will bring a tow along shredder. Mine needs to go in the back of a car. As far as I can see for electrics there are a lot of shredders with 50l or so collector bins with power around 2500w, which can style themselves 'quiet'. AN example may be the Makita UD2500, and a *lot* seem to have the same chopper mechanism. A!ongst these lighter duty ones, a Qualcast is available at £99 - 40% off - from Argos. http://www.argos.co.uk/product/7305100 At the other end there is something like the Bosch AXT 25 TC, with three times the throughput using a Multibladed Turbine mechanism which is more robust, and quieter, but typically costs £400. Best deal I can see is £379 including a free pair of loppers. http://www.garden4less.co.uk/bosch-quiet-garden-shredder-2500W-axt-25-tc.asp PEtrol ones seem to be quite a lot more, and I am not sure if they go in a car. Comments and recommendations are very welcome. Ferdinand
  9. For me Aldi are good for toppings in jars, jams - marmalades have declined, coffee, utility wines - some are good, some not, stollen, and BBQ beef burgers for a few examples. A chunk of our huge B&Q has just become another local ALDI. Do not normally shop LIDL as they have one of those abusive photo enforced car parks in the particular centre. One of my favourite puns was coined during the horsemeat flap .. My LiDL Pony. We are now up to about 7 local Aldis. Family from London have been taking bootfulls of shopping back with them for the last 2 decades until they got a local one. All good stuff.
  10. I do not think it would go back on the shelf ... straight back to manufacturer I suspect. Repairing packaging and repreparing products is unlikely to be a useful use of staff time for store staff, surely?
  11. CAn we have an aerial photo? I think someone on here has a drone, and your location may be within the navigation tolerances.
  12. I do not know if anyone is interested, but all the Planning Documents for the project are here: https://www.rbkc.gov.uk/planning/searches/default.aspx?adv=0&simple=Grenfell+Tower&simpleBatch=20&simSubmit=Search#tabs-planning-2 The main ones I have looked at are this one from 2012 https://www.rbkc.gov.uk/planning/searches/details.aspx?adv=0&simple=Grenfell+Tower&simpleBatch=20&simSubmit=Search&id=PP/12/03163&cn=143819+IBI+Taylor+Young%2c+Chadsworth+House%2c+Wilmslow+Road%2c+01625+542200&type=decision&tab=tabs-planning-2 thsi from 2013 which was withdrawn: https://www.rbkc.gov.uk/planning/searches/details.aspx?adv=0&simple=Grenfell+Tower&simpleBatch=20&simSubmit=Search&id=PP/12/03163&cn=143819+IBI+Taylor+Young%2c+Chadsworth+House%2c+Wilmslow+Road%2c+01625+542200&type=decision&tab=tabs-planning-2 and this from 2014 which revised it: https://www.rbkc.gov.uk/planning/searches/details.aspx?adv=0&simple=Grenfell+Tower&simpleBatch=20&simSubmit=Search&id=PP/12/04097&cn=145691+IBI+Taylor+Young+Chadsworth+House+Wilmslow+Road+01625+542200&type=decision&tab=tabs-planning-2 These are details of samples and so on of course, and Decision Notices approving such. 13. Just asking questions, can we build in a tolerance to allow adjustment of the external ground level later by say +/- 15mm ? (Yes I know it is more complicated) F
  14. I will be OK then, as there is a leaded design in the window. Big Planner said it had to be obscured glazing ;-). Going to enjoy today ... we are the cool bit of the country.
  15. I want them to have a drawbridge.
  16. I am planning to try one of these reflective films, as discussed recently, om a couple of roof windows. This is my Velux window type. Questions are: 1 - This looks to me as if the beads cannot be snapped off. Correct? 2 - Is there anything else I need to think about? Cheers
  17. TBH I do not know how good that is. Perhaps I'm flying in the dark here, but I had decades of my dad pointing out water staining on every modern building built with flat faces, His point was that if you do not channel it water will stain where it happens to go according to nature. He advocated details where the water would run (ie vertical something of some sort), or channelling it where you want it. Looking back, @Trw144's roof seems to have a detail all the way round all the edges, and it may even have a small upstand (perhaps only 25mm) between the edge and the flat surface of the roof (?). And I think it may rely on a mini-fall on the roof going to wherever he wants the water to go to avoid any runoff. Perhaps the fall alone will do it. Is there a hidden drainpipe somewhere? How are you doing that? But if it is able to runoff anywhere visible, it *will* show stains. Just been out looking at my dormers and my neighbour's dormers with binoculars. Both are trad tiled tops with a normal roof fall, and both take the water to the back, then eject it onto the roof at the back corners. Mine has a slightly Heath-Robinson flashing arrangement; his has valley type tiles. I think for a flat dormer I might do a lip (eg 25x25 tanalised batten fibreglassed over) round the edge, and slope the fall towards the back corners, with perhaps something as simple as a 100mm gap in the lip to let it onto the roof. Then any staining will be along the dormer / roof joint rather than down the vertical sides or front. If it slopes the other way another option might be to have a shallow-u profile channel/tray mounted vertically behind (200-300 x 12mm?) and a gap or an overlap in your cladding just round the side from the front corners. That would let the routine runoff run down behind the cladding but in front of your waterproof liner (guessing there is one). Visually.you would just get an accent line near your vertical corners. Then take it onto the roof at the bottom. I suppose a couple of vertical battens mounted behind the cladding 200mm apart with the channel lined in grp would do it as well. That is me pants-flying, so others may want to help by critiquing. Ferdinand
  18. I shall assume I did reasonably OK, then.
  19. I think it depends on the robustness of the vertical face. How good is it?
  20. Perhaps he needs to explore the dimensions for a gallows ...
  21. I have a Tesco Metro on the way to the current site. They have a special price-engineered £1 Cornetto, which are popular.
  22. Key feature: guess who is going to be expected to mend it when it breaks !
  23. How strong are those skates? I have 20x 62kg and 30x40kg pavers arriving today :-)
