  1. Apparently he was from east london...
  2. when ‘platform’ built is there a resource online that you can read about airtightess methods?
  3. Spoke to a fella yesterday who said ‘balloon build’ for my timber frame. Walls up, airtight layer, then a timber on the wall and fit the joists on hangers. not really relevant to this but interesting and avoiding the ‘around the joist’ hassle.
  4. Just turned this weeks on now- the homeowner seems ‘interesting’.
  5. it’s not good, working from home is ideal for some occupations- but definitely not en masse for others. Standards of service are through the floor.
  6. Just shows how people are taking the piss blaming covid and working from home.
  7. I was stunned. Spoke to a human, he was helpful, called the meter team while I stayed on the line. Honestly blew me away!
  8. For anybody else searching ‘new meter’ or ‘meter supply’. British Gas. brilliant on the phone and coming same day.
  9. My bill at my previous house went sky high overnight when we had one fitted. but yeah- this whole thing seems a minefield
  10. Hi there, Thanks for getting in touch. The reason this takes so long is because a lot of things need to go on in the background before we can get your meter fitted when there isn't already one in the property. In order to install a new meter, we need to make sure you have an open point of supply to connect to. Do you currently have an MPAN/MPRN? —————We also need to be sure the Distributor has installed all of the mains pipes and wires from the grid to within the property's boundaries, ready for the meter to be installed. Has this been done yet?————- Then, before we can install a meter, we need to bring your property onto supply with Octopus. This involves having a registration completed and accepted. The process usually takes at least 17 days for electricity and gas. Then we'll be able to go to the meter operators and ask them for an appointment to come and fit your meter, how quickly this happens depends on engineer availability in your area. Please let us know if you have any questions about this. Kind regards, Charlie ? that doesn’t sound correct
  11. It’s finding one that can do a meter before Xmas!
  12. it’s only EDf offering anything around 6 weeks ?
  13. Because COVID.
  14. Christ, nobody are fitting meters
  15. Ukpower are the dno. called octopus and no joy.
  16. i just asked the dno- they said they don’t have a supplier because ‘free market’.
  17. Morning I have a date for my electric connection, 9th November ? while Im living in a static and building the main house- any suggestions of a meter supplier and tariff? From reading on here octopus will be best once all the ashp and solar is up and running. thanks
  18. Put a bit of dpc on the sill before filling the gap with mortar, and that forms a slip layer for when they expand and contract. No more cracking.
  19. One of many mysteries. every week the missus wants to know how they get planning, and I can only put it down to big money hiring good consultants.
  20. I’m watching this episode from between my fingers. Absolute jokers.
  21. I've consulted the boss: likes the current neff induction hob, has the magnetic dial control that you can take off for cleaning/safety. hates the neff double oven, especially the fan over run long after it’s turned off. if it was me next time I’d probably just get a Lamona or whatever dbl oven at Howdens. Decent guarantee and simple controls.
  22. for sure, the ground is horrific. materials have risen so sharply it’s hard to know when I’m being tight, unrealistic or what having done some steelfixing my automatic answer is always sub it out...
  23. yeah standard driven- the ground is fen peat/clay like a big pudding, it’s horrible! I’m going to price up the rebar to do the beams myself and see what’s what- I know the raw material cost has doubled since I last did some. Probably going to go with raised piles with beams on top which will save £20k when accounting for block and brickwork to dpc. It needs to be well over 1 metre above ground due to being in a flood zone.
  24. steel case driven. like I said- the ground beam cost is eye watering.
  25. for me: 8m piles £8900 ground beams £19400
