  1. Thats what we have on the two smaller outbuildings. Yes you are right; it relies on powerline technology to synchronise.
  2. Never mind all this talk of misuse of the term "architect" the bigger problem is misuse of the term "professional" !! I've been disappointed by "professionals" in numberous different areas and their is zero legislation protecting that word! And there in lies my main point (which I've made before on here)........ do not ever, ever, ever assume that because someone or a company is a member of a "professional" body that they will be any good. Most are more interested in their members and their membership fees! Frankly a good deal of them are up their own arse! I'll get get my coat.
  3. Hi @TerryE, great blog post, very interesting reading. Can I ask why you decided not to fee your UFH from the SAPV?
  4. Thank for the tips, nothing's simple eh! The tiles are actually direct from British Ceramic Tile (BCT) as a special order. But I'll see if I can get a single for the tea test.
  5. Porcelain. 600x600
  6. Partly answering my own question one: This is the sort of thing in my mind: http://www.archiproducts.com/en/products/49089/stairtec-clip-system-stair-nosing-profile-for-ceramic-laid-steps-stairtec-fs-profilitec.html Or would a simple edge trim do the job?
  7. We had a recessed shelf in the shower in our last place. The base was angled by 5 degrees to stop water pooling, you couldn't notice it. It didn't really get dirty but then my wife is a cleanaholic.
  8. Hi All Two questions in relation to floor tiles. We're intending to have 600x600mm porcelain floor tiles throughout our ground floor. Q1: What do you normally do with steps? As we have a 600mm level change in our ground floor (see green rings in image below) Q2. How long should I allow in the schedules for a tiler to complete the ground floor (power floated concrete, so should be level and smooth): 121 sq meters: TIA!
  9. The full payment is annoying enough but absolutely no "retention" or "final payment on fully completed" is a huge risk and is arrogant in the extreme. As @Nickfromwales has said they'll have absolutely NO incentive to correct any issues.
  10. Bloody kitchen companies I detest them! ME: "Yes, I think we have a design and price I'm happy with" ME: "What are your payment terms" THEM: "100% with order" ME: "But I don't want it until August" THEM: "100% with order or we cant guarantee the price" ME: "No retention for fitting issues?" THEM: "No. 100% up front" ME: "Surely a reasonable deposit now (25%), 72.5% on factory build (10 weeks before delivery), 2.5% fitting retention would be reasonable" THEM: "No" ME: "Goodbye" Rant over!!
  11. Only if they're actually finished! /me runs
  12. List prices here (no doubt heavily discounted in reality): Page 66: http://www.marleyalutec.co.uk/media/2975/marley-alutec-price-list.pdf
  13. I dont know to be honest. This is an area I've only just started to research. I just had a memory that I've read some of these aluminium/power coated system are "specialist fit" only?
  14. Hi All Has anyone come across this product? Its a composite ali roof line system which (they claim) uses standard tools and fitment etc? On the facia of it (sorry ) it would appear to be a good compromise between uPVC and the more expensive ali systems? http://www.marleyalutec.co.uk/products/evoke-fascia-soffit-and-copings/
  15. We had discounted hacker as the local supplier fitted price was just ludicrous! Nearly double anything else we had looked at.
  16. Agreed! And thats not such a bad idea I'm totally and utterly fed up with kitchen companies. They just mess about with pricing to try and obscure your ability to properly compare the market. The last one I spoke too didn't even seem to understand the zero VAT element of new build! Let me know how you get on!
  17. Hi @Alphonsox Interested to know what you decided. We've specified the Elica in our kitchen, the kitchen company we are thinking of going for have quoted: (Those prices EXCLUDE VAT!) Which is just scary! I love the design but not sure I can stomach the crazy cost. Which UK suppliers did you find? Elica obviously control supply in the UK as its impossible to find prices online.
  18. I'm with Jeremy. A radial was always known as a spur to me until this forum enlightened me. Now can you clever minded folk please tell me how I can completely hide revolting spurs, isolation switches and such other "electrical gubbins" from the walls of my lovely designer kitchen.
  19. I really don't like these regulatory what knots! So picking up on @Onoff comment about isolators being within 2m of the appliance........ We intending to have a built in bank of units. Like the image below. I assume then I've got to stick an isolator on the section of the wall to the left or right! Just how rubbish will that look!! Grrrr I'm sure putting them in the glass tambour units on the side would be OK though? What about if they are behind a small panel that opens? You may be getting the general idea that I DON'T LIKE SWITCHES!
  20. Well all I get is a link to Dorothy Perkins so I can only assume it's something about wearing women's clothes?
  21. What's the maximum load on a grid switch though. I'm guessing more powerful ovens and hobs can't be isolated via this sort of grid?
  22. Just noticed the WRAS logo is displayed on the product brochure: http://www.wondervalve.com/uploads/files/wondervalve_brochure_26_08_11.pdf (last page)
  23. From memory there wasn't any packaging. They came in Jiffy bags.
  24. This idea of a single 'master' isolator followed by a bank of MCB's seems like an elegant solution. How does @Onoff feel about that idea?
  25. I'm sure the pro's will have a better solution but I used a couple of these in my last place to balance a hot and cold feed. Worked perfectly. http://www.wondervalve.com/
