  1. Just remembered that silentcoat do a black version: https://www.deadening.co.uk/products/silent-coat-black-3mm-volume-pack That’s a bulk pack but you should be able to find smaller packs.
  2. What @Nickfromwales should work. As an avid Landrover Defender driver in the past you become a master of trying to sound deaden aluminium panels. Dynamat is black but still has a silver logo printed on it but even thin strips on the back of the pipes should make a big difference. Whats really annoying is I’ve recently thrown a whole load of sound deadening off cuts away, sorry it looks like this (that’s the back of my last Defender)
  3. A lady after my own heart. I like the “ do it up until it’s snaps and then back it off half a turn” approach.
  4. Interesting thought. Have you given any consideration to how you’ll attach a facing material? Gabions (to my mind) don’t lend themselves easily to allow attachments?
  5. That was actually plan A but the cost worked out prohibitive.
  6. It would be simpler but the National Park won’t have it.
  7. I’m a customer and haven’t even been notified. Cant say I’m suprised they’ve been hopeless from day 1. thtats the second time that’s happened to me now, can’t remmebr the name of the last one but it transferred over to co-op.

Even cheaper here: https://www.tradingdepot.co.uk/grohe-sense-guard-smart-water-controller-22513ln0 Looks like a good device.
  9. Hi Has anyone had any experience building timber crib walls? I'm planning one as a retaining wall for a patio area and having done some Googling the actual construction technique looks pretty simple, just a series of headers and stretchers with stone infill which would be pretty simply to home roll. Its not particularly high, 1.7m at its highest point and the ground conditions are such that its not going to have to work too hard. As its in the garden the BI isn't interested so I don't have to go the the trouble of structural calcs etc. I appreciate that there are DIY stone type systems out there but its a planning condition that my retaining walls are either timber or (rusty) steel. Something like:
  10. Reading this thread (and others) it always strikes me how many forum members here seem to work in IT? Is the correlation “self builders and IT” or “forum use and IT”?
  11. +2. I’ll even offer up my IT Director to facilitate. I think a full RAMS might be needed first to reduce potential for death.
  12. As you say there is no formal system here. All I did was instructed the selling agent to accept sealed written bids by a date. They needed to state a price and their ability to proceed (i.e. cash, SSTC etc). He then opened them and I chose one. No reason at all why you cant run that system yourself. We achieved bids over the asking price but actually proceeded with a cash buyer who offered the full asking price.
  13. If you do get several offers then you could always go to sealed bids. I did this with the last place I renovated (Never should have sold it, long story!). Its a tidy way to achieve the highest price in a timely manner. Stops all the 'low ball offers' from almost interested parties and the tiresome negotiating. Its not a binding system so you can still choose to accept a lower offer if you feel that buyer is a stronger position to complete.
  14. Hi All I need a custom sized shower screen for one of the bathrooms which is in a dormer room. Can anyone recommend a supplier? Plenty of choice online but I’d rather go with a recommendation. Also a few suplimentary questions: Which thickness glass. It’s 1000mm wide so I was thinking 8mm? How do the frameless designs seal to the wall? Is it just a clear mastic bead? Picture below:
  15. Welcome John from a fellow Devonian.
  16. I resemble that remark On the up side it may be the one thing that’s heavier than my corpse
  17. P.S. Try and find a willing helper. It’s an absolute ball ache of a job to do on your own.
  18. I’m not a pro roofer but..... it it has to be bottom to top as your next peice needs to overlap (by the specified distance) the bottom so any water runs over the top of the membrane and off your roof. You'll do well to damage the modern memrains they’re pretty resilient. Just don’t wear your high heals up there
  19. You would certainly think they have some sort of fuse system to stop that level of catastrophic failure. Does @JSHarris have any insight?
  20. Not completely certain of age but definitely less than 12 months old.
  21. Super smart, you are right to be pleased!
  22. Nothing more unnerving than detecting the smell of burning. Headed to utility room where the smell was strongest, then realised the lights were off. The Circuit had tripped and I found this: It had got hot enough to melt the side of the casing and clearly scorched the down light fitting. Somewhat unerving. I guess there isn’t really much that could burn in a metal fitting but that must have got seriously hot and the smell was very strong!!
  23. Honestly, spend the extra few quid and buy the Geberit. You really won’t regret it. They are an absolute dream first and second fix.
  24. Jeremy’s point about grid outages is a big one for me. Tesla still haven’t enabled the ability for the battery to kick in if the grid goes down. If it finally gets approved by the national grid the Tesla will move up my want list considerably as short term power outages are common up here on the moor.
