  1. With regards to the MVHR, shutting it off in the event of a fire could easily be done with an external emergency stop switch, or some sort of relay wired in to the smoke alarms to switch off the MVHR while they are sounding. There are also plenty of intumescent seals available for pipes, which clamp round the outside, and crush the pipe and seal the hole when the temperature raises above 180 degress which would all go towards stopping the spread of fire.
  2. I have ordered a load of the Honeywell Series 9 Door Bell kit for our house, two PIR sensors for the drive, a door sensor for the front door and two door bells, not sure if you can have different melodies for different functions but it looks well made. I am hoping it will all be waiting for me to install when I get back from holiday so will update then.
  3. If you make it wider, and there is a door in that wall make it so you can buy off the shelf door liners to fit the width, it will make you your life easier.
  4. We opted for the solar version of the integra, I don't even think the electric option was available when we ordered. Ours came from Roofing Superstore, they were the cheapest and the only one who we spoke to who said thet we could get them colour matched to our windows, RAL7016 externally and white painted wood internally. I was a littely worried as everyone else said velux couldn't do this, but they did turn up as ordered and we are very pleased.
  5. we have 7 of the Velux solar integra 3g windows in or build. http://www.velux.ie/products/roof-windows/integra We had no issues with the MBC air tightness and the integra controller is great to use, operating all windows/blinds and being able to set timers for blinds window openers is great.
  6. I have the full soil test for the batch of soil that has been delivered to site, they took 50 samples and have provided me with the complete written report for the soil, the same report is also filed with the same EH department as they monitor the site. They wanted tested in SITU, I am gussing it is quite easy for it to get contaminated in the 12 miles it travelled to our site. If I had any other officer it probably wouldn't be an issue all the local soil testing companies referenced our officer by name when I was going through the requirements and when they were on leave, the officers colleagues questioned why we had to provide so much information and discharged the conditions. I gues I will have to stump up another £1000 for the testing.
  7. Morning all looking for some advice, EH made us jump through loads of hoops for soil contamination which all came up negative, th desk study and site walkover said there was no risk of contamination but the EH still made us do multiple soil samples. Any way the final condition we had was any imported top soil had to be tested, after speaking to numerous suppliers I found a company with a fresh batch of premium blend top soil which had just been tested, I duly emailed the EH team to check it would be ok, waited a week no response to brought it anyway, I received an email from them last night saying yes they had no issues with the soil test results, but they wanted a sample in situ from each 20 tonne load that is delivered, is this reasonable to ask for additional tests? The soil is from a new site which the local EH are obviously involved in, in the same bourough and the test results were carried out two weeks ago.
  8. its not that big 2.5m x 4m
  9. We used PU Glue to our marine ply down for our bathroom and then the plumber put screws at 100m interverals in a grid pattern, it was alot of screws!
  10. It looks brilliant, I really like the vertical cladding.
  11. It great for the cats (we have four!) they can't claw at it and any spills wipe straight off, the same for muddy boots just a mop or sweep and it comes straight off.
  12. I think the idea of the straw was to protect the seed from birds and act as an insulator while it starts germinating, the idea being it is raked off after a couple of weeks when it has git going. As with eveything I found a green keeper promting this way on you tibe
  13. Its great underfoot, and really easy to clean with no grout or anything to scrub at.
  14. So our floor was cleaned sealed and waxed today, the below is the end result.
  15. Thanks all this was the grass seed I was looking at getting. http://www.thegrassseedstore.co.uk/lawn-seeds-1/hard-wearing-lawn.html?options=cart Someone advised me that covering with a layer of straw for the next 4 weeks will help reduce the watering levels not sure weather to try this or not, my plan was to spread the 60 tonnes of topsoil and mix in 20 tonnes of of well rotted horse manure, level and gently whacker plate it down before seeding.
  16. Does anyone have any recomendations for seeding a lawn. I was going to wait until the Autumn, but as the patio is almost down, I have a digger and whacker onsite have got a good deal on 80 tonnes of blended certified top soil I thought I would start at the weekend. The forecast looks like we aren't going to get a heatwave any time soon so it might be a good time to get it established for next summer Anyway there are a myraid of seed types and recomendations for growing it, has anyone got anyone tried any of these and which ones work?
  17. We had the same issues, Desk Study - No issue, EH wouldn't discharge the conditions we ended up having to have a site walkover and 8 or 9 trial holes and tests done on the soile, which all came back negative for contamination, the total cost was around £3k.
  18. We brought everything from our local independant bathroom shop and I am glad that we did they were absolutely brilliant, they helped us with all the designs and made us realise why the ones that we had dreamt up wouldn't work, they matched the lowest internet prices without us forcing for a discount, stored it all for us and have been brilliant with faults or us loosing bits (fast flow shower wastes) replacing them free of charge and delivering all the bulky items as and when we needed them.
  19. I can completely sympathise with you having gone through this 12 months ago when the sun amp was't even around to make it more difficult. We went through the whole Oil/LPG/ASHP/Eletric/UVC/Thermal store debate lots of times with lots of people with lots of different answers. In the end I found a comoany that I was comfortable with, seemed to know what they were talking about and listened to what we wanted and so far it is working well for us, but when buidling a low energy demand house but wanting to have plentiful DHW it is a difficult conundrum.
  20. That could apply to outward opening windows as well, what is stopping someone leaning something against the window or placing something in front of the window blocking it from opening fully. The building regs are more concerned around the size of the opening for escape and the locking for security from what I found when looking at the options.
  21. Yes it is fine to use inward opening windows in the UK, we have them.
  22. Hi Jeremy, which option did you go for in the end, Sentinel Plus Stainless Steel or 3M Prestige?
  23. Roofing superstore, I thought all the Intergra ones were now solar powered with touchscreen controls. I brought ours in December last year as we special ordered 3 in RAL7016 as they woulf be easily viewable against all there other windows. I can highly recomend roofing supeestore for service/cost.
