    Site visit ?????

Well productive visit, it’s all dried up a treat, which will now save a few bob. Decision was made no longer going for piling. slab foundation then block and beam above that, this will give us a void for services and what ever else. Anyone with experience with this method? Want to make sure everything goes in and under the blockwork. There will be electric and water to the garage approximately 5m away, I’ve asked them to also put ducting to and from the garage just in case we convert the garage at a later date. any advice/input will be much appreciated
  2. You’ve resolved our arguments for what materials to use for the staircase ? we thank you! ????? looks AWESOME
  3. Wish me luck, visit to the site this morning hallebloodylujah! Hopefully we will have an answer to our ongoing foundations saga. Is is piles is it slab is it block and beam is it a combination of all god knows I hope we have an answer today. One positive tho, action on site ???
  4. Hi, we live in Northumberland it took approx 10 months to get everything in place such as plot/plans and everything else that costs a fortune before a single blade of grass was removed. Contractor was delayed 3 months, they turned up, then put the scoop in the ground 8 weeks ago and that was it “DOWN TOOLS AND RUN FOR YOUR LIVES”. Covid bloody19 was attacking them from all sides, and this is a field in the middle of nowhere! Not seen them since. So that’s the first 15 months and all we have is a hole ?? if no progress in the next 2 weeks I’m gonna have to graft myself too. ? but welcome tho it’s a friendly site ?
  5. 1 bonus the clock has started ?
  6. We have drawn down 30k beginning of month, first one to get the ball running. We haven’t paid the first instalment yet and have just received our ecology letter to advice of 0.5% reduction to their rate due to the current climate, so a good start, think we’ll be saving a tenner or so ?? every little helps.
  7. Do you need planning on a shepherds hut on wheels or not?

  12. Is it not a tree that produces pubes! It’s similar to the money tree that the mrs thinks we have!
  13. Oooooooo never thought about stuff like that

  15. So we don’t know if they are or not?
  16. What’s everyone’s thoughts on buying bulk. Just thinking about delays, price increases etc during the current situation. Despite the founds not sorted yet Im thinking of buying all the stone, slates etc so that we have them on site. Things like windows obviously need surveying a bit nearer the time. Also thinking of a container to house dry and expensive items such as plaster board, cabling & insulation etc.

Without having the documents to hand I cannot remember what the targets re temperature was, I’ll get them out though to go through them again. Not quite a passive slab was the option however, there seems to be a mix of clay and sand like elements following excavation, this week we will be going back through the methods in the floor construction. Once the founds are sorted it will be a sips build.

We went for this layout as we were future proofing it, when we cannot get up the stairs we will have our bedroom etc on ground level

However, I’ve just thought we are putting our bedroom downstairs, and the sitting room will be upstairs so I think if I can remember that may have been part of the decision to have UFH upstairs. Gonna get all my stuff out later and go through it all again, a nice Sunday afternoon read

We are hoping for 0.14 walls and roof, the downstairs floor is being talked about as we may have to go pile rather than raft. The windows/door etc 1.1 I believe without checking. So going on all of your experiences I’m wasting good money which now by the sounds of it will be needed for piles.

Supply will be ASHP, I’m beginning to think do we really need upstairs UFH, I’m going to have to go back through their design with a fine tooth comb I think.

Think I’ll go back to the designer and tell him, the house hopefully will be well insulated, on reflection these seem pointless as you both point out ?

And I thought they were the professionals in their line of work, guessing they are just trying to sell me stuff that is not needed! Grrrrrrrrr. What ever happened to helpful people (apart from folk on this site that is). Remember when you could speak to a good old plumber and they would put a lot of effort in to helping you, to get the right product at the right costs, then the customer promoting their business.
