  1. Agree 100% and it’s not easy getting away with murder
  2. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 true in SO many ways
  3. I know . A ‘budget’ and a ‘time scale ‘ are pigs . My advice . Forget time scale and take 10 yrs like me Budget matters less then because you’ve got 10yrs of extra income to fund it . Oh yeah ; I believe divorce is expensive 🙄 Still ; pretty much a win I’d say .
  4. You can do all the wiring yourself ( apart from CU and some specifics ) You can do all the plumbing yourself and drains You can build all the stud walls and plasterboard yourself You can paint / tile yourself You can install kitchens and bathrooms yourself You can build the entire house pretty much yourself and save £100k ‘s - it might take a bit longer though …. 🙄
  5. You are mr. Speedy ! . I am the slowest worker ! ( I said wORker )
  6. Tbh - if I saw that ; I’d assume the gutter was overflowing
  7. Decided to swap to flux especially with another 9.7kw of storage on the way . Once winter begins can swap to go again perhaps ( though will be a higher rate than I pay now ) . 35p kw export is too good to miss . Also with ( once installed ) 30kw of storage I should be able to weather the odd cloudy day in summer
  8. Think I might make that statement my tag line
  9. Be careful with vat . Vat is zero rated at point of single order for pv or pv with battery . A battery later will attract vat . Tbh there are ways to mitigate that 😉
  10. Girls say that too me also
  11. Yes ; sorry - you are correct . Because as you state in effect it does that on the PW side no issue .
  12. Because if I set SE to discharge it won’t charge from PV . It’s one or the other . As I said there are ways to reduce this . The main reason is I wish to top up the pw as this is what feeds the house directly . The neat way to reduce this is set SE to charge only from clipped . That way SE and PW can potentially charge simultaneously . As the sun is out by end of day ( when pv is minimal ) I get SE to discharge . As PW will be full or near full that goes to the grid . Rinse and repeat ( until winter ) Currently SE and PW are set to never charge from grid - been like that for 2 weeks now . 😎 Admittedly it is like managing a mini power station ; dealing with varying demands . SWMBO is WfH today so it’s a trickier test !
  13. Another option ( you won’t like it ) . Mask the universe out and spray it . You’ll get even cover with no brush / roller marks . But you will cry a lot .
  14. DNO’s can vary on their attitude . Looks like you take the whip from your DNO like I did . Get that g99 in and see what happens .
  15. Ok . It’s a rare example but has happened . pw low . Se full . Discharge se into pw . If pv generation is greater than 3.68 pw will charge at 3.68 ( it’s max ) . Se can’t soak up extra over 3.68 as it’s discharging . ( or not if pv is 3.68 or greater - but it is in ‘discharge mode’ not ‘charge from solar ‘ ) . Google tells me ‘ pass thru ‘ does exist and allows charge / discharge simultaneously
  16. I have a question for you ! Why can’t my SE dc battery charge and discharge simultaneously ? . I assume it’s a SE design limitation ??? - just wondering . As that situation can cause me to loose some PV generation in certain circumstances- though I think I can reduce the chance of that now .
  17. I believe ( just as a note of interest ) pw 2+ has greater sustained output 5.8kwh and a PV inverter built in along with its ‘own’ inverter .
  18. You can influence it . E.g change price of buy / sell per kWh . I have had it where it didn’t charge at night and I’m stuffed the next day . The algorithm ( not really AI is it ! ) is not perfect . But if you accept it gets it wrong sometimes but is surprisingly right other times then you can just leave it . But I’m a fiddler . SE is simpler ( though SE claim to be adding AI - I’m hoping I can disable that ) . I’d certainly talk to your DNO - they can give you an indication of what you can have also ask them about various battery options .
  19. I believe supply of all batteries and prices are more abundant now . So it’s a better market to buy than perhaps 12 months ago . I got SE because wait time ( at the point of order ) for a PW was 18 months and DNO said no anyway . I still argue even now with DNO because I’m like that 😁
  20. Tesla has its own heating / cooling so performs the same in all weathers . My SE in winter ( never had any problems in summer ) can struggle to fully charge if temperatures are too low . So in a *perfect* world I’d want a dc battery under cover and out of the weather . Not feasible for me . Tesla can be a ‘set and forget ‘ option if you want musk’s algorithm to do its thing 😁
  21. I used to worry about the SE battery because it has a fire extinguisher built in 🙄 . V2 now though doesn’t . Personally I’d want any battery outside of the main house ( garage etc. Ok ) . But how many instances have there been of any domestic batteries like these of any brand / construction; over heating / exploding / destroying the universe ?
  22. I have both Tesla and SE dc battery . Tesla is an expensive option in comparison ( wasn’t many other choices when I first got it ) . It is very good imho for the money - not just capacity but construction and the software . SE battery more primitive I guess BUT doesn’t require any DNO Stuff . Together with lots of fiddling ( trial and error ) is pretty darn good with pw I think you need to accept the issues / limitations of dc over ac and how much control you want /need . I ( because I’m sad ) alter my setup practically everyday to suit / get the best results for me . Also ( important for me ) SE and Tesla designed to be happy outside .
  23. I’ve test z wave for over a year - results ( delays ! ) can be spurious . Zigbee to date ( after 5 months ) zero failure or delays I.e SWMBO approval !!! 🥖💩
  24. Agree . I scratch my head over mine sometimes and I installed it . The key is NOT to be stuck with a technology. Everyone thinks Philips hue is a great choice for lighting . It is bar the cost and when Philips announce “hue 2 “ not backward compatible; Sonos anyone ??? 😞🙄😎
  25. This is what you do! You use HA and presence sensors to control lighting . Manual switches are soooooo primitive . You become technologically agnostic . i.e you might wire a z wave receiver somewhere - but have done it in such a manner you can rip it out and put zigbee , matter , whatever next . The best and cheapest way to control lighting especially in a large room is with a ip cctv camera . Make everything poe - no battery (expletive deleted) abouts to deal with . Then you can control the heating . Open the front door remotely ( done that by accident once ! ) . Cripple ‘guests’ WiFi speed so they leave . So much fun ( caveat ; whilst it’s working ) You buy cheap from land of the rising sun . Not had anything fail it at 11 quid or so a pop who cares .
