Quick question if I can - are optimisers worth it?

True . But better too see 1 dead rather than an entire string knocked out . -

Admit I can’t see the ‘value’ of optimisers on my array - one side can suffer slight shading . But - being able too see every panel functioning or not in the array is a massive bonus . -
Yep tedium and repetition are your new friends !

4 bathrooms, and making sure that there is enough hot water.
Pocster replied to Big Jimbo's topic in Other Heating Systems
ASHP , big uvc My let property has 4 showers - I made certain all could run simultaneously for 10 minutes . Uvc not gas ‘boosted ‘ - purely electric . If you get issues ( I actually had 5 showers ) you can get a shower that feeds directly off a cold header tank . -
Yes - you all weep at MY cheap lecky . I can pick and choose a tariff that rather than ‘saves’ me money as conventionally ; I choose the one that makes me money . An electric whore if you will . Highest bidder gets my goods .

Yes. I detect the envy on this forum already.... Greatness has been achieved whilst still living!

I know . All the great men in history were mocked . Only after their demise was their ground breaking radical excellence acknowledged.

Well - this ignores some things . You could end up exporting at 35p a kw - like I do . I estimate I’ll earn £1000 a year from that . What no one seems to understand ( I do - I got a pw in 2020 and was mocked on here for ‘ a waste of money ‘ etc ) . Electric consumption is meant to double over the next few decades . Price will vary of course but ‘cheap’ days are gone ( bit like boe rate ) . Also when you have a battery you naturally are more ‘aware’ of usage e.g turn the (expletive deleted)ing light off . My ROI ( EV 4000 miles per year aswell ) is around 6/7 years at this point in time . If roi is everything then don’t do it . What do people want ? A return in 2 or 3 years ? . Yet buy a 300k house , mortgage for 25yrs and ultimately have bought it for a million quid ….. New Tesla for 80k , roi ? That nice holiday ; roi never What’s important to 1 person isn’t the same for everyone . I could just (expletive deleted) it have no battery , pv , EV and go on another holiday . Next generation can deal with it “ not my problem “. That view is what governments largely do hence issues with nhs / housing etc. Etc.

How can ‘green’ be achieved ?
Pocster replied to Pocster's topic in General Alternative Energy Issues
I use to own a property in Florida ( very nice it was ) ; until the recession (expletive deleted)ed me . I could never understand in the sun shine state no one had solar yet even at that time a few early adopters existed in the U.K. ( not a sunshine state ) had pv . -

How can ‘green’ be achieved ?

What about gas though ? . Just about everyone’s boiler is one . I know the concept of hydrogen gets kicked around - but there’s no efficient method to produce it on the scale required . What about millions of humble gas boilers !??? -
How can ‘green’ be achieved ?
Pocster replied to Pocster's topic in General Alternative Energy Issues
Agree . But what earth do we do with old housing stock ? . Bar some magic technology that doesn’t exist . Millions of leaky , poorly insulated homes . It does indeed require a think tank to inform the government that this ‘plan’ isn’t going to work . -
‘Green’ you know carbon neutral / net zero / whatever Most of us guys building will insulate , ASHP , pv etc. etc . Because we understand the benefits and accept the costs but also associated savings . My neighbors have a (expletive deleted) off massive house and are minted . They have zero interest in better insulation or pv . Yet can easily afford it . Less wealthy people can’t afford it nor would want a loan . LL’s will be forced to epc c for rentals but not millions of privately owned homes . So how do the majority of old stock homes get upgraded to meet targets ? It’s simply not possible ….

Shouldn’t be to difficult to ‘retro’ fit a battery . The cheaper dc ones will need to be undercover . SolarEdge and Tesla are fine outside ( that’s the reason I choose them ) . In terms of size required - depends on your usage and how efficient your place is to heat . In winter I almost manage off 22kw of storage .
