Fitting concealed shower valves and taps - tips?
Onoff replied to jamiehamy's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Only reason I didn't go for the Rocol is I didn't think it was for use on potable supplies? -
From the excellent link @Ferdinand put up to the planning docs, the sections do not seem to indicate any smoke vents on the facade just residential apartments right up to the top then the roof/plant.
-
I suspect, and it's only a guess, it wasn't that the new smoke clearance failed per se, if it's like the one I get involved with but that it drew in smoke filled air. This if the stair pressurization fans were on the roof. Guessing (again) at some weird cyclic effect with smoke under pressure being forced into the stairwells, corridors and I guess flats.

Yep, I had a bottle of that No Nonsense stuff, comes out blue from memory. Ended up keeping it upside down when I used it as the dispenser is so poor. Sets rock hard. I wouldn't use again unless I absolutely had to. Tbh on a compression / threaded fitting Jet Blue Plus is fantastic and it's my go to for anything like this. I can't praise it enough. Stops compression fittings squealing as you do them up and forms a demountable seal. It just seems to lube the joint up and make it go "better". Expensive mind: http://www.plumbcenter.co.uk/product/center-center-jet-blue-plus-500-g/ EDIT: Jet Blue Plus cured a leak on 9bar incoming main. Used it further to @Nickfromwales's suggestion though he favours something else similar. -
@pudding, found you a nice English made one that's maybe local to you: https://www.gumtree.com/p/power-tool-drills/pillar-bench-drill/1246881738 Gargoyle grease, love it!

So that's 2 for a IP rated box on the end and 2 for a resin joint! Either would be my favourite. Trust you have some slack there as the resin joint will have to be cut off later.
-
If it's going to live underground you could stick it in an alloy Pratley box. They're bulletproof. 'Kin expensive though! Would need to blank off unused entries of course. https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Manufacturers/Pratley/Cable_Joints_1/index.html

Just do it and start with a clean slate. Otherwise you'll suddenly find yourself at 50 and living in a money pit! Having a partner who can take a long term view is essential too.
-
You could also get a lock off for the breaker if you wanted to go belt and braces...or take the breaker out for now and fit a blank.

I think some sort of bearing in the "telescopic" lower hinge as said above is a must to ensure it doesn't squeak for a start. There is I reckon a neat "cheat" method whereby the gate maintains a nominal gap to the ground when closed but a lower leaf section lifts up out of the way of the slope as it opens, either pivoting up into the main gate or hinging like a wing flap.....or you could just stick a wheel on it but where's the fun in that? With a pseudo "solid" wood gate you could plank it diagonally to disguise that there is the lower leaf. I like the idea of it sliding up inside! How to raise the lower leafs? Another couple of actuators set vertically?

Where exactly is this temporary joint going to sit? Just heatshrink will provide no mechanical protection which is the whole point of the armoured and to a lesser extent "tough" PVC outer sheath. As above not just me who likes a box. If you want "slimmer" but still tough as old boots you could use a resin joint on the end but block one end up before you pour (tape / foam). http://www.screwfix.com/p/prysmian-puj10cc-resin-joint-10mm-4-core-max/43363 (Not sure if a Wiska Shark (gel), again v.slim and super quick to fit would work on just one cable).

I fancied an opening iris gate, sliding, living hedge or a Stargate!

This thieved off the mig welding forum. Done by welderpaul there: "Didnt bother making the rising hinges as a cranked set - they were too unweildy and would have hit the fence on the left hand side of the gates which was close to the post.Instead: two tubes which slide inside each other. One welded to the gate on two 80 x 15 plates. Other has a normal adjustable hinge pin welded to the end and a large washer welded on on site as a stop. Wheel attached to the bottom of each gate. as the gate opens and rises up, the tubes slide out and the bottom of the gate rises still staying upright. Hinge 'eye' drilled over large so it doesnt bind on the hinge pin.Works a treat. These gates were painted rather than powdercoated - still a decent finish on them! The gates rose 450mm over a 2000mm length"

On the subject of SWA if doing a lot, or just 'cos it looks cool (and works), great tool this IMO: https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/KTWSBR28.html

I'd just gland it off (properly) in a weatherproof box and put the ends in connector blocks. I assume this is potentially live? Better if you can screw the box to a wall etc. Is where its going not there yet? Shed supply?

Might be an idea to scan such receipts and dump on Dropbox. -

One of the "overheard in Lidl" quotes: "My God it was awful! There was nowhere for Derek to park the Bentley!" (In a dog rough, 19 year old Ford Focus I fit right in! IT'S A CLASSIC. Just waiting for a pair of new sills actually). -

Wie die Schauspielerin zum Bischof sagte. (Blame Google Translate! ) Other than kangaroo, ostrich and crocodile once, I've always tended to shy away from Lidl and Aldi meet and fish which I guess is a bit daft really! Our Lidl is so posh it doesn't even have a security guard! No parking cameras either though you still need a pound for the trolley. I have a couple of broken Aldi tools; a corded staple gun and 3/8" router. Probably no chance of getting parts. Only have the one Lidl Parkside tool, the multitool and it's been superb. I think as a brand it has the edge over Aldi's offerings. -

As is their multi-seed brown loaf with a bit of double Gloucester with chives and onions..... The kangaroo steaks are good on the barbie. My youngest reckons their Neo cookies are indistinguishable from Oreos. -

I quite like Lidl in that there is nearly always some little gem not in the promo ads that is worth having. Bought the 3 pairs of tin snips when last in there, They're good so far. After a solar charger for the tree house so madam can charge her tablet etc. I shall be in there tomorrow! I always come out with croissants for the kids and an apple turnover for me to have in the car! -
I read this as Best Value Pint!

I couldn't use one of the mobility scooters as they're to make scale Ford Capris....probably for any grandchildren I might have! Tbh the kids have enough fun on them without me cannibalizing them!
