  1. Tricky as your roof imo isn't a total conical roof. Seems to have elements of a conical and hip end. Whatever, it should at least look good.
  2. Problem for us is we don't want too much "self catering". Defeats the object for us. We both like to do pub meals every evening for a week or so. Quick breakfast and maybe take some filled rolls for lunch. The idea of a different pub every night suits us but now each will have it's own set of Covid rules. That and possibly having to book.
  3. Save saying it all twice!
  4. Mmmm, beer! ? Still mulling a last minute short break in the near future but thinking we'd be on edge with all the Covid restrictions and unable to really relax. I recall a huge PV farm up by the Garlic Farm. Was meant to be something to do with producing energy from waste but the site went over to solar if I recall. Pity you can't visit places like this. I'd love to have a look (I'd pay too). Mind I fancy a trip round Thanet Earth. How many people can say they had a tour round Dungeness nuclear plant on their honeymoon? Every time we've been over we've been even more amazed at the increase in domestic PV installs. The density is unreal. Are there any island specific incentives to install?
  5. Lucky there's no crap on the floor for it to get lost in!
  6. Just take a ride round the island and see the ones you want? From my recollection it's like Solar City out there and even the dog kennels have PV! ? (Not visiting this year I don't think ? )
  7. Guessing lead or even copper might indeed be the traditional option there, for what looks look, (certainly in part), a conical slate roof. http://www.traditionalroofing.com/TR4_turrets.html
  8. If only he'd read this before fitting!
  9. It was where Nick was saying about numbers of turns of PTFE...
  10. Page 28:
  11. Not enough turns of tape then, simples. I was amazed when @Nickfromwales said to put 25 odd turns on a bib tap back plate. Works like a dream.
  12. The fun of a rainfall head. Though I wanted it I rarely use it tbh. Nothing against it and it looks great. If my lad has a shower he uses it all the time. Means when I go in and use the handset straight after I get the occasional nice cold drip from the water in the rainfall head.
  13. I have a feeling that the more "right angle" bends you have and less sweeping curves, the more knocking you are prone to.
  14. In 7 years? What was wrong there and why twice?
  15. There's a lot of people on here clearly partial to a joint!
  16. What goes on there then, some sort of quick connect thing? All that springs to mind is the story about the boy sticking his finger in the dyke...
  17. I'll set 'em up, you knock em down! You'll never see it tbh. (But we'll know!)
  18. Copper. But then I like bending stuff!
  19. This worked on kids tree(less) house:
  20. On a retrofit with biscuit mix you need to make sure your joists will take the extra weight.
  21. Did you miss "Heating" from the thread title? Grooved 22mm boards? For example: https://www.theunderfloorheatingstore.com/profloor-boards?
  22. Wrong section post! ???
  23. Oh to have this type of major problem to worry about! ?
  24. Tbh structurally I'm sure it'd be fine. The existing dormer is in effect an 8m X 8m, 4 room box built on a 9x6" frame. There's also an RSJ, front to back, mid span. 4x2" stud walls with 4x4" corner & mid posts come up of this frame to form the rooms. The 9x6" frame sits above and independent of the original ceiling joists. It rests on concrete padstones at the corners and mid span. These are cast atop the existing, original walls. So point loads as I see it. If I brought the front wall of the dormer out it'd sit on the original front wall and I guess evenly distributed. I'd do a bit more investigation / peering into eaves and crawl spaces along with referring to the (poor quality) copies of the plans the council gave me if this went anywhere. Unfortunately we do! Corner of the lounge is "falling off:
