  1. I have told my swmbo that we are NOT having a tumble drier in our new air tight build but a " lazy Susan" ( is that correct) in the conservatory. Many on here and other forums talk about how MVHR units dry washing very effectively.
  2. Well my builder in Devon says the building market has gone mad and everyone is very busy well into 2017.
  3. No, our Nick is doing it right.?
  4. Thanks Nick, sorry your so busy but it just goes to show how good you are and in demand.
  5. +1, I was thought to " iron" the bottom of a trench with the back of the bucket, it works well and saves a lot of shovel work.
  6. Jamie, I suggest you take up the mantle and give it a go, please report back and let us know if it went well?
  7. Thanks guys, the reason for the hallway UFH is there being no heating upstairs so any small amount of heat will rise to the landing etc. All the UFH will be one zone. Any more comments on pipes under walls?
  8. On the grand designs programme I was intrigued by the chap that had a machine for turning EPS waste ( packaging) into insulation beads, shredder?, anyone near you do that?
  9. Thanks onoff , I have already saved this picture so I can copy it.? I tend to agree with you regarding loops etc but that was the way it was designed, I think I will ask Wunda if they will design it the other way for me. Glad you don't see a problem going under walls either. Ta.
  10. As I have been fighting planners for two and a half years mine is still in the cointainer ?, but brickwork is going up so watch this space ( next year) ☺️.
  11. Ah, now then, another question, we are having our slab poured in one piece on top of the internal block skin and over the internal block walls. I know you should not run UFH pipes under fixed cabinets etc but would it be ok to run it under a single skin block wall for just 100mm, this would shorten runs and stop congestion in the doorways!. PS, anyone want to comment on my question above about the pipes feeding the manifold being installed within the insulation under the slab, plastic water pipe in contact with EPS ? PPS, Sould I consider a different design rather than loop (Nick!)
  12. Yes, I tend to tighten fully with Ptfe tape on the thread THEN drill the holes in the wall to fix.
  13. I have just scanned the tinternet and other sources say 200 to 250 mm spacing for a well insulated floor ( and mine is) are Wunda ( my supplier) wrong going with 150mm spacing ( another site says 75mm between flow and return to manifold).
  14. Here is my plan:- R12212 John Hodges PIPELAYOUT 13.10.2016.pdf
  15. Hi Guys, I have received my plans for the UFH which I am installing myself ( with the help of a plumber mate) but the plan shows feed and returns to the six zones very close together and I would think they should be separated to stop heat transfer. What distance would be sensible to stop heat short circuiting from the flow to the return?. Also I plan to put the feed and return to the manifold from the ASHP between the EPS sheets in the floor insulation, I know electric cable can be affected by EPS ,but is plastic water pipe affected?.
  16. It's because of your comment Jack that I am going to put electric UFH in our on suite but like you I find tiles cold to the feet so we are going with vinyl. As far as know infared heaters only heat people, not " things " ( I stand to be corrected ?)
  17. And I thought painting my garage floor was posh!
  18. No such thing as crap in a "man shed" ?
  19. I wish my garage looked that posh ?
  20. In fairness when I was a builder some days nothing seems to get done when other days lots get done when in fact you have been just as busy both days. That's why I liked to work on a fixed price ( with a caviet that unforeseen problems are negotiated price wise).
  21. Nick, I see by your first post that you got your standing losses below1kWH/day, apart from a 50' temp how did you achieve this?
  22. Welcome, I designed our house myself and didn't need an architect but I did engage one ( at a negotiated price because he didn't have to "design" it) to do all the cad drawings ( I still use a board and paper ?) And do the building regs stuff.
  23. Thanks, looks good but not a lot of separation between feed and return!
  24. Perhaps I misread senses,s thread above, I thought he meant there must be another way "of building houses" ??
