  1. Oops!
  2. My money is on G.
  3. Very high water table in winter ( forgot to mention that), building inspector has indicated draining to a ditch on site will be acceptable . I know full concrete encasement will be required.
  4. I am about to decide on my treatment plant as I need to get it in the ground before this glorious dry summer ends ?. I am impressed by the vortex and its activated sludge process, also because it's adjustable to the number of people ( building regs say minimum of 6 people treatment plant for a 3 bed house whereas ours will mostly be only accupied by two people) . Can anyone see a flaw in my plan or suggest a better model please. https://www.wte-ltd.co.uk/asp-sewage_treatment_plants.html ta.
  5. Stones, thank you for your comment on E7, rather than divert this thread I will start my own and pick the assembled brains on this forum?
  6. Well Peter, great minds think alike ( I hope?). I don't want to digress this blog so when I next get access to broadband ( trip to the pub) I will start a thread on exactly what I plan ( differs slightly from yours In theory). Will be good to get yours and others input.
  7. Well done, real life feedback. I will be installing/fine tuning my heating/DHW system soon so this is good to read, i plan a very similar system but was thinking of utilising E7 to bring bills down further but yet to work out the logistics?.
  8. I may be wrong but I looked into this a couple of years ago and ther are ( were) regs on how much you could store etc which can confuse the situation. As building regs are interpreted differently by different inspectors I would speak with yours and see what he would accept. I have a huge tank for collecting rainwater but admit it will get it installed after the build has been signed off so I won't get tied up with regs ?
  9. Not sure if it has something to do with our soil ( clay) but our local land drain expert told me not to put pipes in the bottom as they will block up, he digs a trench, lines it with membrane and fills it with 50mm stone and a little covering with soil ( and membrane ) if you dont want to see the stone. On my many many trips to sight this appears to be the way drains are laid at the side of the A30 going to Devon. ThIs is the way I have done the French drains around my garage and house and they work very well.
  10. So sorry to hear of your chrisis, our up stairs westerly block wall blew down two nights in a row during the build, second time bending my tower scaffold propping it. Builders just cleared it up and did it again ( and again) the last time propping with shed loads of timber supports. I promised myself that I would not get stressed during my build as this has caused me health problems in the past and so far I have been able to say " shit happens" and move on ?. The above statement is ( in my opinion) flawed but must be tempered with common sense.
  11. Thanks guys for all your input, sorry for not doing this earlier but no broadband on site is a bugger !. More questions to follow as the build is continuing a pace ?
  12. Well, things are cracking on a pace with my build and we want some led panel lights for the kitchen and maybe other places, I bought some led stick on lighting strips for my garage and already ( a couple of months) some of the leds are flickering and failing ?. Can anyone recommend a supplier ( ebay?) of decent kit, and especially with shrouded power supplies ( I have read Jeremy's comments about RF interference). Any info welcomed.
  13. Thanks one and all for your input, lots to digest. Her indoors is visiting site this week so I will get her orders, sorry input?
  14. I think I have cocked up, I bought two 1200 x 800 shower trays for my bathrooms and intended to have just a 1200 screen allowing access via the 800 wide end ( I dislike bifold or sliding doors) and thought that having no door would be groovy ?. However I have been told that water is likely to splash onto the floor ( over 1200 mm distance) so resigned myself to having a door across the 800 end but do you think I can find that combination on the www?. Do people on here think I need a door ( will water spray over the 1200mm distance) and can anyone recommend a supplier for this combination please ? ( responses to you're answers will be sporadic as no broadband on site and I just have to come to the pub to get wifi ?)
  15. Hi Jeremy, thanks, been off line for ages as onsite with no broadband, I will message you with my address if you don't mind posting one!' No rush Mate. Yes I also used the flexible pipe you mentioned and it is far superior. One problem I foresee with the knockouts is when balancing is you can't put the rings back in ??? ( or am I wrong?).
  16. Well it's nearly all in ( pics to follow) one problem I have yet to deal with is how to control airflow per room from the manifold (I don't want to adjust airflow at the rooms), I think I read about knockout rings in proprietary manifolds but mine is DIY, ed. I could use the end caps from the flexi pipe and cut holes in them but don't have enough, has anyone got quiet vent pipe ends that come on the roll to stop muck getting into the pipe?????, I will pay for postage.
  17. I too am lucky that I can visualise anything from a plan or idea, my wife cannot. I say " trust me, I am a builder and I know it will work" ( works most of the time) but she insists that as a woman she will have a better idea when it comes to soft furnishings and colours ( maybe ?).
  18. Thanks guys, AB multipanel it is then, I just hope they do the colour the missus wants ?.
  19. Dear all, I am ordering bathroom "stuff" for our build and we want wall panels for our shower rather than tiles, can people please recommend good kit. I have read on here about the rubbish bottom panel seal and the way around it ( thanks JSH and Nick). Thanks,
  20. Hi Barney, as per the picture I used pieces of foam to keep the pipe in the middle of the socket and bonded with expanding sticky foam , at the manifold it's a cable tie to hold it still and foaming glue to seal. Hopefully it will never need taking apart but if it does the one in the picture was simply cut apart with a Stanley blade and re fixed to the in situ pipe again. Heath Robinson it may be but it works ( and is a lot cheaper). More pics to follow ( when I am allowed up the pub again?).
  21. Well here is the homemade manifold/silencer, yet to fix in place but will update when I do. Notice the sound absorbing foam baffle, I recon less sound will transfer it has to go around corners !!!!!
  22. Ah, dexion, I remember it well. I used it once to hold a gearbox in a car when converting from auto to manual!
  23. Sorry it's been so long but I have been on site for three weeks and have no broadband there yet. Here is a picture of my Heath Robinson room plenum, saved me about £20 each, and I need 9. I have started mounting the unit and will next show pics of the homemade manifold/silencer arrangement. Question, I have 5 supplies to rooms and 4 extracts and I was wondering that because I have a warm roof and heat rises is it worth putting another extract up to the ridge of the loft to recover any heat that finds its way to the highest point in the house ??.
  24. After two years of fighting the council and my bully boy neighbour for planning ( the neighbour has now sold up as he went bankrupt ?) And finally getting approval from an appeal to the Secretary of State I have had nothing but good comments from passers by and even heard on the grapevine the build was complimented by a group in the local pub. Even though I said it was a " modest" build I do think it looks bigger than I thought it would. Still chuffed to bits with how it's going and looking forward to spending Christmas in it ( hopefully 2017 ?).
  25. regarding the outside tap i always fit the tap to the through the wall fitting first. then you fix the back plate after so you can always make sure its vertical.
