i also paid about the same for my "kingspan" ASHP, from Ebay.i should find out if it works near Christmas. It was still shrinkwrapped on its original pallet from the factory so what could possibly go wrong .

What are you most pleased about?
joe90 replied to ToughButterCup's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I am pleased about everything on my build from (finally) getting planning permission, the whole build looks great and what I wanted it to look like. The icing on the cake is our builders, what a great bunch, nothing is too much trouble, i thought i was a fussy so and so but they are just as fussy!!!!!!!!!!, also my new toy ( historic MG kit car) is just the best thing to buzz about the country lanes in after a hard days work on site. I am one very happy bunny.- 31 replies

Does anybody know the difference between Domus semi rigid duct and quietvent or are they interchangeable please?
-
Just read the other thread on MVHR and cooker hoods, sorry for using the word plenum ( but the "terminal" from BPC does connect two pipes into a larger outlet pipe!!!!!). Peter, not done it yet but I got the bits from fans 4 lesson EBay, I will post a picture when I have got some flexible pipe ( quietvent or Domus ??????).

Sorry for not replying but I have been away on site and have no broadband. I have now come to the pub to use their broadband ( honest?) As above with .Jeremy's comment I am not doubling up and my build is similar to his in size etc. Yes Dave I may be interested but yet to order or measure accurately. as per my earlier question is their any difference between the Domus pipe ( blue) which is sold in 25 MTR rolls) and quietvent ( red) . i am making my own plenum s with 90' bends and room vents from EBay ( saved about £150) and making my own silencers and manifolds from MDF.

Yes I was supprised but clever planning ? And central location lends itself to economy of all pipework including plumbing. Can I mix Domus and quiet vent?, the pipework looks the same?
-
In the process of ordering duct to discover BPC only do 50 meter RolIs and I need 75 ( Domus do 25 meter rolls but not half the price !). Anyone know where I can buy 25 meter rolls or has anyone got half a roll that I can buy from you ?. Does anyone know if Domus is the same as quiet vent from BPC ( so fits their joiners etc).

So, what would you do differently next time?
joe90 replied to Kuro507's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Thanks Vijay, yes I have a lot of pride in what I do ( and so do my current builders luckily) . Funnily enough I retired when I Realised I was fed up with doing good work for other people and wanted the good results for myself. ?- 25 replies

In fairness when I was a builder I had no qualifications in that trade, I am completely self taught and lucky enough to be good at most things. All my work ( apart from the first few jobs) were by recommendation and I have always told people to find a tradesperson by recommendation not the biggest advert!- 25 replies

I am glad someone has beaten me to it, that's the sort of thing I end up doing.

Well my floor was laid by my builder and supplied as a kit, the 22mm polythene protected flooring sheets were glued only to the Finn joists with foaming D4 glue ( don't know what brand) and my builder has been doing floors this way for years and never had a problem or a reported squeaky floor ( my pet hate).

Recommendations for expanding window sealing tape
joe90 replied to joe90's topic in Windows & Glazing
Thanks one an all for your input. -
Thanks guys, yes I do have a lot to do but I am retired so I don't have to balance site with a job. The only thing I don't like about the BPC type plenums is they are fixed before plasterboarding so fitting the boards around the pipe sticking out from the ceiling could be a fag, I would prefer to have a flexible connection above the plasterboard and cut up into it after the plasterboard was fixed.

raising this thread again as I am about to order my MVHR duct and bits, BPC quiet vent duct appear the cheapest, I am going to make my own silencer and manifold. The plenum and valves are expensive , I can get metal ceiling valves at £3.60 each ( I don't need the adjustable ones as I plan to balance the system at the manifold, and pipe reducers about a couple of quid and don't need a 90' bend as the pipe will bend that much. If it works this will save in the region of £200. Am I just tight fisted ??????

Dear all, my wooden windows are being made as I type and I am planning their fitting by myself. Can anyone recommend a type and supplier for expanding tape to seal the window to the brickwork. The windows are being installed in check reveals, I.e. The inner blockwork appature is larger than the external brickwork and the window is fixed to the back of the external brickwork, an overlap of 15mm and it's on that overlap that I plan using expanding foam tape. I also welcome any hints and tips on using this method.

Pop it into a garden shredder and sell it as eps beads?
-
Yes but only downstairs, if I did have wet radiators in the bathrooms I would tee them off the DHW cct which is near the bathrooms but decided on simplicity I.e. Electric radiators ( and electric UFH in the bathrooms).

I am having electric towel rads in the bathrooms on timers as it's so much easier than wet plumbing and cost pennies to run for the short time they are required.

I also have decided against a warranty as it's my retirement home and plan on living more than ten years ?. Also I was informed that as a seller I could take out an indemnity insurance for far less than the cost of a warranty.

Yes the Graf unit looks good as well, long guarantee on tank and pump. i am off to my site tomorrow for a couple of weeks and have no broadband down there so I am not ignoring comments but will get to the pub ( with broadband) when I can ?.

They have a protocol for concreting it into saturated ground ( like you know we have)?
-
Thanks, will have a look.

I have some old (BT) high voltage protection rubber mats that I have in front of my workbench and can say that standing on these is more comfortable than concrete. I don't produce a lot of swarf but the little I do seems to brush off fairly easily.

Well guys there have been a few threads on this subject and I have read them all and gained a lot of knowledge. It's my turn to pick a treatment plant and I think I have settled on the Vortex eco. http://www.wte-ltd.co.uk/vortex_sewage_treatment_plant.html. It appears to tick all my boxes and I particularly like the two sizes of air bubbles they develop ( or am I being baffled by science ?). It's also adjustable to make sure it's not under used, a feature I have not seen elsewhere. On one site that sells it it even says it can discharge to a dry ditch and this is supported by the environment agency, this is an issue for me as my site is very wet, I don't like drainage fields and my ditch can dry out in a hot summer. I would appreciatte anyone's comments.
