  1. In my opinion, yes. (Whatever the tiles are).
  2. Ah, hips do give some structural support, but yours ain’t,, my house roof was designed as hips without ties but the BCO insisted on vertical steels to the ridge at both ends , it would have taken to long to argue so we just did it. If you had “ceiling joists”, this would not have happened (and I have built many garage roofs, converting them from leaky flat ones!).
  3. ? Please let us know what they say (if you can get them to come ?). Be prepared for B S .
  4. I concur, I had cancer twice during my build, although living in a caravan on site during the build we still had our old house for me to recover in which made a lot of difference. Could you look for a holiday short term rental locally as another option, fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.
  5. The very reason it’s falling apart. Any chance of a picture?
  6. I have a large south facing conservatory and nearly everyone here said it would overheat, well yes, it did get a bit hot mid summer but loads of doors and windows to open, however, in these shoulder months it heats the whole house enough that the heating has not come on for the last 10 months?‍♂️, with Covid I have been unable to go on holiday to Italy but now get the same temperature here!!. Regarding heat pumps, those of us that have them can also use them fir cooling, using PV (IF and when I get round to fitting it).
  7. @Coops, I would ask the guy who is willing to sign off your work to specify exactly what he would accept, that way you won’t have any surprises (but still test or even switch off at the bottles everytime you use it till he can get there).
  8. No, she would be a trans! More frequent and severe weather. Higher temperatures are worsening many types of disasters, including storms, heat waves, floods, and droughts. ... Higher death rates. ... Dirtier air. ... Higher wildlife extinction rates. ... More acidic oceans. ... Higher sea levels.
  9. But if we don’t, and the majority of scientists are correct, we’re buggered.
  10. Go and sit on the naughty step.
  11. That’s ok but you need to plan sockets, lighting etc. I have an occasional office/guest bedroom and the desk is in the corner with sockets, tel skt etc above and below desk height.
  12. The penetration was right behind the cooker and sleeved with expanding foam to make airtight. I was told gas pipe must not have joins within any cavity so if it leaked gas could not build up without being noticed.
  13. But a fridge working in reverse would heat the inside and cool the outside ?. (It’s an explanation I use and people understand it ).
  14. I self installed in my new build and had a chap sign it off afterwards. Plastic gas pipe buried outside from cylinders to outside kitchen, convert to copper before entering the building (as no plastic pipe inside in case of fire melting it), bayonet fitting on wall fir flexible gas pipe to cooker. Tested and passed ?. Just make sure you test all joints with washing up liquid in water and a brush (like you would to find a puncture) when pressurised.
  15. I too like KISS (keep it simple stupid), a member here in the past (Jeremy) designed his own weather compensating computer controlled heating system but eventually changed it out fir one room stat. He knew that as it was bespoke if it broke nothing “off the shelf” could replace it and he admitted it did the same job. I adopted the same technique (as I also am a Luddite and don’t understand all the mathematics some here quote ?) I too have an ASHP set to 48’, 300 litre DHW tank and wet UFH downstairs only. Frankly I copied others here with similar properties and it works well, Very little to go wrong ?‍♂️.
  16. Well despite having planning for solar with my build I missed the FIT date and decided against it at the time but with recent price rises and as @ProDave has done for himself a self install is beginning to appeal again, I just need to make sure I live long enough to get my investment back ?.
  17. The “other” countries would say we started the industrial revolution and have been polluting for a lot longer than they have so we should start before them, plus “mostly” these others countries are poorer so less able to afford to change from fossil fuels.
  18. Not sure if the threads are the same diameter.
  19. Restricted flow unless you have high water pressure, I have found.
  20. Not come across that before, I was about to say bonding.
  21. That is the same as I did, no regrets. The kitchen sink I did do in 15mm but I don’t like those narrow flexi s, I prefer the soft copper tails with a bigger diameter.
  22. Is the ceiling In yet?, if not get some 4x2 a little longer than floor to ceiling joist height, against the wall at the bottom at an angle and slide (wollop) against the ceiling joists, this will lift it the small amount you need.
  23. My conservatory roof has 12 panels approx 3m x 1m each, laminated inner and outer , guys installing them lay on them to fix (with a sheet of insulation to stop point loading. ) The lead flashing above was treated with oil (as it should be) and I have had no staining so far ?
  24. If it’s cross threaded the faces won’t be parallel so ptfe tape as above may solve it short term.
