What sort of construction method is this?
joe90 replied to ProDave's topic in Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF)
Yes I initially thought they were going for Artex. π±, brilliant idea for fully self builders. -

Very interesting, yes I thought they looked like celcon. @ProDave what did you think of the wiring βweldedβ joints π€·ββοΈ -
Screed thickness with UFH, over PIR. How thick?
joe90 replied to saveasteading's topic in General Flooring
Ditto and no cracking π -
Enough screed to support weight of car
joe90 replied to Post and beam's topic in Garages & Workshops
Also what about point loads (jacking a car up etc) personally I would want 100mm (but I do tend to over engineer things). Steel or fibres would help I guess). -
To me it looks like a 45β join, timber at the angle of the roof? Odd!

The planner even told me I would probably win if I went to appeal, beggars belief really.

Brush, dead easy (quicker than I thought). I rate it highly, https://www.kingfisheruk.com/supersilicon-item-26BA20#26ba5. Just one coat and water ran off it like glass π I did it the summer after all the work so the wall was thoroughly dry when I did it.

No I put it on the year after that again just in case. I only did the west facing wall as that caught the wet Atlantic driving rain (from Widemouth bay).

Well we went to committee and supported by a councillor but when it went to a vote he voted (with the rest) against it and would not look me in the eye π€―. I heard on the grapevine they were told which way to vote!!. Regarding emotion my (ex) wife told the story about how the site was owned and lived in by her father since the war and she always wanted to eventually move back there, they did not give a toss. A neighbour who objected then told lies about the site/build but we were not allowed to question the allegations so they were taken at face value. Bastards. Still I went to appeal and won hands down and the planners got a bollocking for not abiding by their own guidelines (smug emoji).

Not only a short period, Indeed I did, 200mm rockwall batts, bba certificate for full fill and I can confirm that even with a soaked outer brick skin the water/damp did not migrate into the insulation ( I found this when I core drilled for the ASHP pipes after a very wet winter).

Trim for self-supporting brick arch over window
joe90 replied to jayc89's topic in Windows & Glazing
Usually they will come and measure up themselves so they can see whatβs required, if you measure up they will supply stuff for you to cut to fit. Are you fitting them yourself? -

I am sure your window supplier can sort that fir you (itβs not unusual). -
Rockwall for brick wall, completely filling cavity?
joe90 replied to KayleyH's topic in Heat Insulation
Water resistance β the product will resist the transfer of water across the cavity and may be used in any exposure zone in suitably-constructed walls (see sections 4 and 7). https://www.rockwool.com/syssiteassets/rw-uk/downloads/certificates/rockwool-thermal-insulation-cavity-batt-bba-certificate-15-5237-full-fill-cavity-wall-insulation.pdf π -
Rockwall for brick wall, completely filling cavity?
joe90 replied to KayleyH's topic in Heat Insulation
I have used Rockwall slabs in a brick block full fill cavity and can confirm no moisture absorbed, in fact the stuff has a bba certificate for full fill cavity, my cavity was 200mm tho π€·ββοΈ -
As itβs over 30 sq m you need building regs!. My current workshop/garage is 7.5m x 10m, no insulation in the floor or block walls, roof is steel on battens with membrane over trusses and suffer no condensation despite no insulation. Yes itβs cold in winter but perfectly dry.

Concrete rings alternative storm water attenuation!
joe90 replied to Andeh's topic in Rainwater, Guttering & SuDS
Yes when my BCO talked about a soak away fir my build I told him it would never drain as we are on solid yellow clay so he just let me pipe it to a ditch (that would carry the water away eventually anyway). -
The big phone switch over/off in 2025
joe90 replied to Temp's topic in Networks, AV, Security & Automation
Mine is wind up, every morning the guy in charge rang Greenwich and made sure the clocks were wound and accurate. -

As an apprentice I used to work on a switchboard like that π±. Before βTimβ was invented if you wanted to know the time you rang the operator and she looked at clocks on the walls around the room, I still have one of those timepieces that was scrapped when the old switch room was replaced. -

Electro mechanical switches (which relied on dialed pulses not tones). A right bitch to clean and set up properly.
