  1. Ah, I misread, soz. So the principal elevation is most likely still facing ‘Highway B’. I found the Gov guidance useful but don’t recall enough detail to advise. Have you read this?
  2. Before you go too much further it looks like you need to firmly establish what your principal elevation is. The elevation facing ‘Highway B’ clearly used to be the principal elevation but moving the drive to ‘Highway A’ and the porch addition facing ‘Highway A’ may well have made that the principal elevation.
  3. That can’t be legal!!! Let me just check the BuildHub T’s&C’s…
  4. Just watched it. I’m completely puzzled as to why planning decided it should short of replicate a building that wasn’t there and, by the looks of it, hadn’t been there for very many years. You obviously satisfied that seemingly weird request and produced a beautiful house. Quiet frankly I wish my wife hadn’t watched that Grand Designs! I’ve been fending off numerous questions tonight regarding how you did it so quickly, so well, and so under budget. Thanks!
  5. Isn’t that always the way!
  6. I was snapped as a 3 lane 40 mph limit expanded to a 4 lane 30 mph limit. Definitely no pedestrians or even footpath close by. I was doing 34 mph, I didn’t see the 30 mph sign. Too much street furniture? Or maybe I wasn’t paying enough attention, either way nothing but my pride and wallet were hurt and who knows this thread may may slow some down by 1 mph or more and prevent a them hitting a car/bike/person in a future scenario. I’m not preaching here, I have a Speed Triple that doesn’t really do ‘slow’ very well.
  7. That, I guess, was the point they were trying to make. It resonated with me, especially the 1 mph extra resulting in 8 mph extra at point ‘X’ which could be where the car/bike/person etc is. I was baffled by the 1 mph becoming 8 mph so thanks @garrymartin for confirming that bit of weirdness is a reality.
  8. @garrymartin I got lost in the maths there but it would seem they were telling truths. They weren’t talking about stopping distances per se more about how fast you would still be going at the point the ‘compliant’ car had stopped. I was quite surprised. What about the speed of a car at point ‘X’ if it’s doing 35 mph, that’ll be significant I suspect? it sounds like I’m a convert but it is my second course so they haven’t fixed me yet 😔
  9. I’ve just been on one of those course you are invited to take instead of 3 points on your driving licence (I was innocent! So were the other 20 people on the course). One element of the course explained that with two identical cars, one doing 30 mph one doing 31 mph braking at exactly the same time the car doing 30mph would stop at point ‘X’. The car doing 31 mph would still be doing 8 mph at point ‘X’. I couldn’t argue that because I don’t know where to start on the maths. Can one of you boffins show me the ‘workings’ of such a sum?
  10. I made a pre-filter using tights as the filter element. Catches all the big crud before the air gets to the MVHR filters. Works well. There is a pig farm not too far from where we live and on occasions it stinks to high heaven. To date we’ve never smelt it indoors with the standard MVHR filters (and tights!)
  11. If your installation permits I would recommend you commission the MVHR without the extra filters and see if the wood burner smell is a problem before going to the expense and hassle of adding additional filters.
  12. Or hire a Burco Boiler.
  13. Is that MBC? We had a similar requirement in our contract and provided hot water through an instantaneous hot water tap. The frame erectors could not have been less impressed or interested and it was never used once. Provide a camping gas hob and a kettle, that will partially satisfy the requirement I should think and will never be used for anything other than making a brew. I don’t suspect they will ‘down tools’ because the hot water isn’t running.
  14. Certainly looks like it 😁
  15. Is that a picture of an H-Block in the Maze Prison?
  16. I got sent this picture and the only comment was: “Well, f*ck”
  17. As we got over the crest, which it sounds like you are just about to do. The stress I felt was unbearable, as we started demolishing the bungalow to begin the build I wonder what on earth I was doing (I had zero build experience). The stress increased as it became apparent that I didn’t know so very many things. I kept a close eye on the budget until it became apparent that we were going to go over budget then I stopped watching so closely, I couldn’t turn the clock back and it had to get finished. Now, 3 years after moving in I can recall how bad I was feeling during the build, it was painful but the pain has gone. I’m chuffed to bits with the end product, survived the budget overspend and rue the numerous errors made to get here. We now get on with enjoying life in a low energy home. It was most definitely worth the not insignificant effort.
  18. @PNAmble that’s understandable, it would be useful information when you’re not expecting a power outage.
  19. Everything kept going as though nothing had happened, equally when the power was restored there was no indication that it had been restored except for looking at the app and seeing that grid electricity was back in the mix again.
  20. We had a planned power outage today for about 5 hours, reasonably sunny so it had no effect on our day to day activities. When the ‘outage’ happened about 20 mins later than planned my good lady reported a reassuring ‘clunk’ from the Gateway and everything continued as normal. One thing I thought was odd was that I didn’t receive any notification on the GivEnergy app that we were disconnected from the mains which I thought would have happened. Does anyone know if the app should create an alert for a power cut? I can’t find anything in the settings.
  21. Ours is 36 degrees and feels right. As @Originaltwist says, Sketchup is brilliant for this, you can endlessly play around until you’ve got what you like and what fits comfortably in the space available. I’ve probably got 50+ iterations of this staircase including 3d renders whilst I played around and finalised the design. I should have added, we have a second staircase going up to the loft, that one is 42 degrees (and not compliant due to a bit of a balls up by the architect - long story) anyway that staircase feels steep.
  22. Agree with the above. Something does not sound right. We’re in Wiltshire, not that far from East Somerset. We had one meeting with a PHPP consultant who was based in West Wiltshire (even closer to East Somerset…) He did not know his arse from his elbow and made some very very basic mistakes in his first iteration of the PHPP. We quickly moved on and completed the PHPP ourselves. I hope you’re not using that individual.
  23. @Bancroft All good points , I feel suitably humbled 😄. My son would love to have access to just such a facility whilst he gets up and running.
  24. I would be inclined to agree, that sounds like a great idea. (apart from letting them use your tools 😱).
