  1. (Phew, took me ages to sort out the 'quote' feature! Luddite!) That was the kind of information I was after as but was unable to find - seems as though there is plenty of ambiguity unless someone knows of the 'source' document because I'm b*ggered if I can find it. Dogma: Thanks for all your hints and tips. Jack, I'd appreciate that. Le-cerveau, that sounds not dissimilar to my plan - I'll check out the blog. Thanks. Thanks all for the wealth of advice and information already flowing, what a great site this is. Russ.
  2. Thanks Ed. It seems as though 'wishing' and 'hoping' play a significant role in the planning process. I'll wish me luck as well!
  3. I definitely want to move the entire footprint and I definitely want to remove the entire original bungalow so definitely not PD though as PeterW mentioned earlier, PD could be used as bit of leverage at some stage.
  4. Thats really interesting Joe, thanks very much for that little gem regarding a bungalow being a 'style', I shall store that nugget away. I wish you luck with your appeal, it sounds like they would have to be insane to refuse...
  5. I've read about that approach before Peter and I found it most interesting. I shall certainly keep it in mind if I find a 'brick wall' in my way.
  6. Thanks for the advice Ferdinand. My bungalow will stay firmly(ish) rooted to it's plot until I have a clear 'yeah' or 'nay' from the planners.
  7. I like that plan of action Peter, I think I might explore that route, thanks. Russ
  8. Thanks dogma, sounds like you achieved the kind of thing I'm after. I've not run my ideas past the neighbours or parish yet as I'm keeping my hand close to my chest at the moment, not sure if that's wise but it seems like it to me in the early stages... I've started trawling through the links that Ian provided but so far it seems it's more 'permitted development' and not 'replacement' guidance. I'll get back into it and keep digging. thanks all for the replies so far. Russ.
  9. Ah! Thanks Ian. Now why couldn't I have found all that! (shuffles off embarrassed, looking for glasses and a comfy chair...)
  10. Thanks. I have done plenty of reading but can't seem to find anything that gives any clear guidance on what may be permitted (ridge heights, building lines increased area etc). Before I formally set off down the planning route I wanted to have some feel for what may or may not work and to the best of my knowledge, in this neck of the woods, planning will only 'talk' during the pre-app stage (which many seem to view with a jaundiced eye) and I want to know lots more before then anyway. Russ.
  11. First of probably many questions highlighting how far behind the drag curve regarding self build I really am... I'm struggling to find any clear guidance on what is and isn't permitted for a replacement dwelling. We own a fairly tired 1950's detached bungalow in a small village on the outskirts of Salisbury and want to demolish it and rebuild in a slightly different position on the plot. Can anyone point me towards the guidance documents I should be reading? Thanks. Russ.
  12. Thanks for the replies. ragg987, I presume your's has been up and running for a while and there are no issues with having the vents relatively low. If that's so, then it's good news for me, it saves yet another redesign on my part!
  13. My plan at the moment is to have the MHVR in a ground floor utility/plant room with the external vents at ground floor ceiling height (around 2.6m above external ground level). It sounds like that will be useful when it comes to cleaning the vents, but is that high enough from ground level to work efficiently?
  14. Wow! I'm sorry I don't know the answer but I'm very impressed with the look of your proposed new build. From that image it looks so much like what we have planned (also hoping to use MBC), but so much better! Back to the drawing board... I'll be following this with a great deal of interest. All the best. Russ.
  15. Be careful what you wish for Nick, I'll start bugging you all soon. Let's hope I don't get barred due to my depth of ignorance! Jeremy, yes, we're in Hurdcott. I had the pleasure of visiting your new build a couple of times last year. I take it you've not fully moved in yet as you say you're still in Porton?
  16. Thanks Dave/Jeremy. Indeed Jeremy, after the demise of eBuild I was going to bang on your door to see if you'd be a consultant on my build! South Wilts; I'm on, and plan to be on, the A338 between Salisbury and Porton and I suspect 'planning' will be the topic of my first round of questions. Russ.
  17. Hello all. Still a future self builder, just north of Salisbury. We have a bungalow, ripe for demolition (rented out). We have an ever changing plan. We have a timescale, it was a 5 year plan - one and a half to go. We had access to the most incredible font of knowledge - which died and seems to have been resurrected, so many thanks to the FFG. I'll get back to learning loads and be here with questions aplenty soon... Yours, gratefully. Russ.
