Great Customer Service
Ashburyselfbuild replied to Triassic's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Thanks for that info Jeremy, I was about to destroy the original plates for my car as I have personal plates. I will put them away until I sell the car. Most Ebay number plate sellers will sell as "Show" plates without the need for documentation however the plates need the postcode of the number plate producer at the bottom of the plate to pass the MOT technically. -
Another one to try is ABC Anchors near Calne Wiltshire http://www.abcanchors.co.uk/ They will also hire the torque motors to drive the screws in if you fancy DIY instllation.

Burning waste on site
Ashburyselfbuild replied to Triassic's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I guess it is the wrong time of year. If we were just at the start of the heating season, then I think you would have loads of interest. -

Kwikstage scaffolding
Ashburyselfbuild replied to Vijay's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Also consider Cuplock. Similar to Kwikstage but thicker metal and galvanised, so will not rust and will hold a better resale value. Look out on fleebay and include various spellings in your search (eg cuploc, cuplok, kuploc and kuplok) I found mine listed as Kwikloc and the price I paid, I could have made a profit by just weighing it in at the scrapyard. Sell on when you have finished and get back most if not all of your money. -
PIR rigid foam waste - what else can I do with it?
Ashburyselfbuild replied to readiescards's topic in Building Materials
A friend of mine is building a large model railway layout and used loads of the off cuts to build scenery. He said it was easy to sculpt the hills that he then covered with plaster of paris.- 27 replies

You could try this stuff, it is acid free. I used it to clean up an old mixer with great success. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cement-Concrete-Grout-Mortar-Dissolver-Remover-for-Tools-Buildings-Garden-650ml-/111785451126?hash=item1a06ee9e76:g:ROkAAOSwBLlVeGRr

Is it 13 or could it not be working properly and be E1 (Error 1)???

On a previous renovation project I installed UPVC and as the manufacturers described it, had the joints knifed and polished. This was far superior to the routed joint that seem to be the norm these days. These were done at no extra cost.

+1 for having the smoke alarms on one of the lighting circuits. If they are on there own, you may not notice if they trip. If they are off a lighting circuit you will soon notice.

Send an email to michael.rake@bt.com I had a problem with a BT pole that was leaning over towards our previous home. After a week of phone calls to various departments and getting nowhere, one email to the BT chairman and I had 3 engineers and a manager on site within a hour.

Hello again - work has finally started
Ashburyselfbuild replied to AliG's topic in Introduce Yourself
I had the same questions and Googled porotherm www.porothermuk.co.uk/ The first course is laid on sand/cement mortar and all other layers laid with joint adhesive applied with a roller applicator. -
They offer free training sessions either in partnership with Durisol at the Swindon self build centre of at their offices in Barnsley. I am looking to book up at Swindon in the near future. A good opportunity to ask all the questions and get a free lunch!!

My thoughts are with you at this sad time.

My daughter works for an estate agent, I asked her if it was ever a problem with properties 10 years old and younger not having a warranty in place. She said that it happens quite regularly, the vendor then pays for an indemnity at around £125 - £150 and the mortgage applications and sale proceed without problems. If you are not intending selling, is a warranty worth paying for? or do you just pay up a much lesser amount should you decide to sell within 10 years?
