Might not have been a spark who done the drilling. An apprentice maybe could have got that nice job although he might have been only following marks left on the truss. Who knows.

Think you need to strip it right back for a start. Any rubble you are keeping store it out of the way for future use. Any crap into a skip and then you will have a better idea of how much stone/topsoil you will need to raise your levels. After that then it's just you a shovel and a Barrow and a good few tonnes of materials to shift.

Put a hose at the first drain where the white pipe is on the pic. Lift the cover of each drain and turn the hose on. Now the not nice bit. Put a spade down to restrict the flow at each manhole and any crap in the drain will stop at the spade. Fish it out and repeat until it runs clear. The pipe that is barely under the topsoil would be a worry to me. Each run should have been laid in at least pea gravel so it doesn't sink and maintains its shape. Would raise the levels here first to stop the pipe getting damaged.

Never seen anything like that before but it looks a pretty good idea.

What they don't tell you about owning a digger
Declan52 commented on ToughButterCup's blog entry in Salamander Cottage
Give her a go in the digger. My wife loved her go in it. Had her loading up a dumper after a bit of coaching. Well when I say loading the truth is I could have filled it quicker with a tea spoon but it kept her quiet for a while.- 19 comments

As Dave says not that much to worry about. As long as they are in the middle and properly spaced that's how it's done. The truss is sitting on wall plate there so I assume it's fixed. A couple of rows of noggins will strengthen the floor up once all the first fix is done. And plumbers are the worst!!!

Wait till you're knee deep in muck and gutters after throwing a track and see how many swear words you can mutter. The bigger the digger the easier they are to drive and a lot more fun but by god can they do a whole lot of damage in the blink of an eye.- 19 comments

B is what I done.

I didn't count that as that's what you use to cover your initial investment. I was slightly under 3800 units for a 4kw system at a fit rate of 16.4p so am well glad that I installed it.

When sse are looking a reading I have to put in both of my import and export readings from the main meter. I think it was around September that Nie asked for my total export amount and was at the end of March where they wanted my total generated amount. I worked out how my pv was saving me money by looking at my yearly figures. I think my total bill for the year was near £600. I got £55 back from exporting and hope to get near enough £650 back from the generating tariff. So all in by having pv I was £100 up. If I hadn't had pv then my bill would have been £1250 as I would have had to buy in the units i generated. That's not taking into account how much I saved by using pv to heat my water. Well worth having in my view.

Hello again. I take it the damp in the house got sorted.

I used gerband on my build and was well impressed with the quality of both the tapes and membranes. Price wise they came in at half the price of the proclima brand.

Looks like black magic when the instructor does it. But after a while it gets easy.

It was unreal price wise when you take into account either tarmac or concrete as a base. Think my paving worked out at £17 a sqm +vat but I did it myself.

See you're coming round to not over thinking it!!! Best tip for the digger is just keep the revs at half way so if anything happens you still have a chance to rectify your mistake. You only need 200 hrs practice to do your red digger ticket. Sort of like your driving license where you can operate the vehicle without killing anybody but are a long way from being the best driver on the road.

Gimmick. Doesn't last esp if you use a coloured concrete as the sun makes it fade pretty quick. Nice natural slabs or paving will last much longer. Is there nobody near you that does anything with all that mourne granite ???

Are large scale PV farms still viable in the UK?
Declan52 replied to Mackers's topic in Photovoltaics (PV)
Must be still money in it as they are doing one up at aldergrove for the airport. This one will just serve the airport and not be connected to the grid. http://www.businessgreen.com/bg/news/2452823/belfast-international-airport-readies-private-wire-solar-farm-for-take-off -
What windows I can zoom in on seem to have a soapbar built on the back. Couple of wacks with a hammer and they will break off and give you enough room to put insulation on the back of the cill and fill up with concrete. Easy job to do. I made a similar stairs and used them till the house was plastered out. Got scrap carpet of a local guy and covered my steps once it went in.

My front garden is full of my offcuts. Tip wouldn't take it so I dug a hole when doing the drains and buried it. About half a large skip's worth .

Don't forget to take into account the door frame width.
