Finding it unseasonabky mild? climatecentral.org has got a new new interactive map of Climate Shift Index Covers 2021 to present. Fun to put in 19th July this year and see the excess effects.

That's a pretty weak module. State of the art in 2012.

Have to redo the steps too, but the paving can be more of a feature across the whole front of the house.

Why did the car parking space go over on the right? To retain the view out of the window the car platform could have been placed in front of the front door. The path would be central sloping down as now then turning left to get to the door.

Heat Pump vs Gas Boiler: Lifecycle Cost Comparison (UK)
Radian replied to Green Power's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
I think there's quite a bit of diversity in production around the globe. The Daikin Manufacturing Germany Gmbh factory was set up to re-brand Rotex Products into Daikin for example. Viessmann, Kensa and Vailant all have manufacturing plants in the UK. What I was thinking of were the frequently re-badged generic ASHP's that come out of China. Nothing necessarily wrong with those, I've considered them for my own heating before, but I have seen some with pretty primitive circulators. -

I don't think you can buy those anymore. Most are under 20W these days. Of course the same should apply to both types of system but I'd be looking carefully in any ASHP produced in China. -
But then how will the neighbours hear the soundtrack? 😂

What sort of 'flash git' do you take me for? 😆 Manual. Just grab the little pull cord dangling down from above. Actually if I do see a bargain one come up I might treat myself - if nothing else, to stop tall people bumping into the cord - but there's another sliding patio door on the side of the room which becomes the way in and out when the screen is being used. The nice thing about this arrangement is for when listening to music, I get an nice view of the garden (once the bank behind the wall has been turfed). Also, with the blinds drawn and screen up I can flip the rear projection setting to 'on' and watch from the garden. Only tried this once in the summer but couldn't stop giggling. Putting the speakers on rotating bases would be the icing on the cake 😎

🙂 I can understand why you might wonder about that but no. Front mains. Have a guess where the projection screen is! I know, I've yet to be persuaded to change the DC3000's in the intervening years. Got a few other Tannoys around the place but these get the top listening spot switchable between Denon AVRX1700 for movies and equally ancient Musical Fidelity A100 for music. I find that the high sensitivity of most Tannoys is a great match for valve and class A amps. Get 'em syringed out then. 🙄 Thanks. No worries, the inner channel has no drainage holes, they're all in the outer one separated by the thermal break:

Problem:- the speakers in our cinema room are not against a wall but sit in front of a 6m wide glazed sliding door unit. The central two sliders are the main way in and out of the building and up until now we've been regularly tripping over the speaker cables lying loose along the floor. Not any more! So I finally plucked up courage and attacked my aluminium framed sliders with a 20mm drill bit 😱 Having seen the profile of the aluminium extrusion when I visited the factory that produced them, it struck me that there was a continuous channel running the entire length. It's been playing on my mind ever since. I did toy with the idea of sticky-backed black trunking but it would have been just too vulnerable on the threshold area. So what if they cost a few thousand quid, it's only a few holes. I finally caved when I drilled the first (test) hole and checked I could pass a conduit draw tape the full length. The 20mm holes I've made also accept standard electrical box grommets and blanking plugs and was reassured by how well the blanking plug disguised the holes if I ever change my mind. Thought I'd share this hack in case it gives anyone else the courage to make use of their frames in a similar fashion. Not that anyone else would be daft enough to build a cinema room with fully glazed walls like this.

Hadn't seen these photos before. Google matched it with another: I think we can se Stanley Kubrick sitting before the droogs in parkas.

Standard Chinese logic to save a couple of 8-bit bytes. They store a proper temperature for a program then use a flag byte held by each time slot to modify the programmed setting by a couple of degrees. Frost, economy and comfort are the usual flags.

If it was sharp sand it'd give quite a bit of grip as well.

Our new G7165 has now done about 30 washes on Eco low temperature washes and a message popped up in the display recommending we do a high temperature wash for hygiene. So last time we used it we did a normal wash which has a 60o final rinse. But the message is still there and I see no other way of clearing it. Do we have to do an intensive 75o wash to keep it happy? I was not expecting to see this prompt anyway as the manual says: "If you mainly use low temperature programmes (below 50 °C), there is a risk of bacteria and unpleasant odours building up in the wash cabinet. To prevent this happening the dishwasher will automatically increase the temperature in the final rinse of the selected programme after several programmes using low temperatures have been run."

So those room-in-roof attic trusses in the foreground are above the garage? That'd be an easy way to get more living space! It's weird how they put up studwork at the transition to standard roof trusses like this was going to be a room. How did you access this loft to take the photo? But yes, boost the insulation over the utility part and complete the partition to keep it snug.

Heat Pump vs Gas Boiler: Lifecycle Cost Comparison (UK)
Radian replied to Green Power's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
I really don't think can go along with this. The compressor unit of an ASHP is outdoors and anything outdoors gets a hammering by the elements. I've seen some examples on these forums that confirm my doubts. It's not just cosmetic, PCB's and wiring all suffer far more than they do in an indoor environment. And gas boilers easily make 20 years or more in my five decades of experience of such things. -
-
I think the issue is in the inability of the external masonry to dry out. Some residual air circulation remains in EPS fills.
-
You'd really have to be able to justify that for a 0.026W/mK to 0.032W/mK advantage. And given the risk of structural damage due to shrinkage or expansion through incorrect application, I'd be very cautious indeed.

No, it needs cooperation at both ends of the link. Of course. But IEEE 802.11s isn't exclusive to Apple by any means. Just not so widely adopted.

Recent iPhone model?

No smartphones I know of are smart enough to switch between access points based on best signal. They just stick with the one they're on until they literally lose the connection. Only then do they connect to a better AP. Makes the mesh concept pie-in-the-sky. I have an Orbi router (expensive one like @pocster mentioned) with three satellites on ethernet backhaul. Covers two buildings ~330m2 and garden perfectly. But if you move location with a laptop or phone, you can be sat right next to an AP but still have a crap signal from the last one you were connected to.

Are you saying the Insulation in the wall between utility & garage is to the same standard as all other outside walls? And the ceiling? This should too be treated like the rest of the house between ceiling and roof. Other than that, what ventilation system serves the utility? I got a cold ceiling in mine due to extractor vent ductwork serving the utility and downstairs loo.
-
There almost certainly has to be some sort of cartel. As with most forms of insulation, the price reflects the long-term value of heating energy saved divided by the relative bulk of the material - as opposed to raw material, manufacturing and marketing costs. In situations like this, there's a lot of latitude for undercutting the competition to gain market advantage. But I've yet to see any sign of this happening. Other types of products bearing inflated prices are either monopolised, niche or promoted through the kind of bullshit marketing that suckers fall for.

Best place to buy 2.5/1.5mm Cable for house rewiring.
Radian replied to Ambaz79's topic in Electrics - Other
Over on the electricians forums they seem to take a dim view of Toolstation's cables - I've seen complaints about working with customer supplied stuff. Pitacs/Time (stocked by TS) source cables from Turkey. If it says "Kablo" anywhere, it's from there.
