Thanks. AB, I'll dig the quotes out. I've asked the question of our SE (who's not mentioned it thus far) too.
-
I've a couple of quotes, both of which include fixed charges for 'static load testing', which is more expensive than the piling itself. They also include charges for 'dynamic load testing'. Are these required or advisable?
-
Thanks all - now on the definite list.

Is there any reason that an outdoor tap couldn't be a mixer (or hot) tap? Thinking for filling paddling pools and hot tubs. Any particular implications of it, costs etc?

Not sure if there's many brickies directly employed by the volume developers. I know a few brickies who run their own firms and have furloughed their squad(s) but who are struggling themselves as they only took dividends. Sure there'll be plenty of sole traders running squads who'll be happy to keep working though if you ask about.

Can anyone help me locate the same brick?

Have you tried Glasgow Brickyard in Blochairn? They have a brick matching service. -
Thanks. Will give them a look too.

They run the national scheme too, which I don't think has had any take-up. And seem to do a lot of good work in general.

Not sure if you require proof of the road opening permit etc. as part of planning but... in my experience council groundworkers' are quite happy to do the work as homers and the road opening permit can be sorted later if someone complains.

Anyone ever used a product like this? http://www.siteright.net/formplas-permanent-shuttering-p-122.html They do a design and supply service which sounds like it's almost idiot-proof and would then just require a concrete pour, it seems.

Thanks for the info, and all credit to you. Is there a rural housing burden attached to the grant?
-
Ah right. Sounds like you have a good arrangement there!

Are you using the self build fund?

As a guide, the average detached 4 bed new build home including integrated garage is approximately 139 square metres.

Metal roof with velux windows

Very interested in this. Thanks for the post. -
Where are you getting that quote from? I've had four back for supply and install of a 4kW system ranging from £3995 to 7 grand!

Thanks. Spent an hour on various flooring websites with no joy yesterday but will maybe just take the cutting info a shop and see what they say.

Not sure if this is vinyl or engineered wood or something else altogether but it's exactly what we'd want for transitioning between the kitchen and living area, utility and hall (i.e. same floor type with subtle colour differences merged in). I cannot find anywhere online that does a range of colours - engineered herringbone oak in a few varieties of wood, polyflor vinyl in a couple of colours, but nothing else. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

2020 Budget - Stamp Duty...
eandg replied to Mulberry View's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Yes - but I don't think any second homes tax will affect self-builders (unless that is they buy an existing home to demolish and rebuild on site, as it's a tax on homes not on land. -

The additional Don't think that's correct if it's brought in the way it has been done in Scotland where we have an 'additional dwelling supplement'. I expected to pay when buying land but the clue is in the name - it's for dwellings not land. -
Revisiting this and wondering what tooling you did need and what you'd advise as optimum lengths for ease of installation?

Scottish Self Builders - planning fee hike for self builders
eandg replied to jamiehamy's topic in Housing Politics
Big builders by and large build on sites that suit volume development and their standard house types, have few neighbours to object etc. etc. Reality is there's a whole lot more work per house for a single plot than there will be for a several hundred home plus development by a Barratt or Persimmon. -
Scottish Self Builders - planning fee hike for self builders
eandg replied to jamiehamy's topic in Housing Politics
There's an argument that if you're going to support self-build you should reduce fees compared to for small developers etc. but the reality is that you get what you pay for and planning is under-resourced. There's new obligations on local authorities (through the Planning (Scotland) Act 2019 and guidance on local housing strategies) which require them to at least establish a register and I'd imagine many will move towards providing pre-application advice to self-builders (where they don't currently) which would be very welcome. -
Thanks. Likely going to go with Wunda given the reviews but not wanting to be out £100 at this stage, where I'm just looking at getting a budget quote for the lender (and probably 6 months away from laying ufh). Are there any others about who could give me that?

Cheers. Binge watching now and on the latest episode he's saying 6-7 grand!
