  1. Just come across the Wunda Joisted UFH which on the face of it looks a good option for upstairs bathrooms (with no issues with making sure flooring is flush etc). Is there any reason this system wouldn't work with posi joists?
  2. That's fine if it won't need more brought in. From memory it was a bit of all your bad sounding stuff but not in particularly concerning concentrations.
  3. Thanks - to confirm, in general there's no need for a capping layer prior to hardcore base for the turf?
  4. Hi, our site is on a couple of metres of made ground which a WAC report advises contains stable non hazardous waste. Our site investigation recommends putting a capping layer of 600mm soil on any ground used to grow etc. Currently confirming levels with setting out engineer who'll calculate excavation and disposal needed. Any thoughts on whether I should dispose and cap below decking and artificial turf? My landscaping guy says made ground is fine for the latter and will be better for him to work from than fresh soil. Cheers.
  5. Thanks. So how would you build up doors under the FFL, is that something the supplier will provide or do you need to pack it? Sorry, stupid question I'm sure but with covid I've not had a chance to visit showrooms and ask.
  6. Thanks for the info (and spanner in the works!) - is that a wider issue with larch experienced by others or perhaps some defective supply?
  7. Trying to get my head round how to get your doors (front, rear and bi-folds) flush with finished floor level, when they'll be going in before the screed. Any advice?
  8. Particularly interested in the larch comments, what maintenance is required?
  9. Cheers - sounds the route to go. I'll get an alternative in the meantime and chase them up in April.
  10. I went through the online form. Will get a quote elsewhere (self build zone?) in the meantime if Protek won't provide.
  11. I'm waiting on a quote back from them. Are you proceeding on a no site visits basis?
  12. Would love to see your budget/budget tips!
  13. Your Help to Buy ISA will be used for the purchase of the land, not the completed property, as it goes.
  14. I know there's a website which does this and have been on it before, but my googling is letting me down today. Anyone help?
  15. Anyone part of one like Social Energy? Thoughts/experiences?
  16. Makes sense and shall refer back to here when the time comes, thanks!
  17. What would you recommend instead? Due to their location our mains water and the hot water tank would both be closer to the summerhouse than the kitchen and bathrooms, so hoping (in ignorance) that that would not necessarily be an issue.
  18. Thanks - and haven't thought that far! Was initially thinking infrared heating or a stove but now thinking I could slightly oversize the heat pump and go ufh in the slab for very little extra cost - plus we've solar pv which we'd want to maximise generation from. Will give that link a look. Thanks - will make sure and spec a 300l tank. Idea for the summerhouse is for it to be SIPs (0.16 u-value) walls and roof which could be supplemented with additional insulation. Hadn't thought about perhaps wanting a quicker response time given it's more infrequent use. One to ponder, thanks.
  19. Any ready reckoners/advice? Well insulated (u-values 0.11 floor, 0.13 walls and roof, 0.8 windows) and airtight c.200m2 two-storey house, UFH on the ground floor, two bathrooms and a shower room (showers, or at least in the ensuite anyway, likely to be power showers). Five occupants (two adults, three kids). There's also potential for ASHP to serve 42m2 summerhouse to be built later (with UFH in raft foundation, wash hand basin in w.c. and bar area). Is that doable and any pipework considerations that would need to be provided for at the outset? Thanks
  20. Ikea and DIY Kitchens (who have a slightly different range of unit sizes to Ikea) - though you need to request access for the latter.
  21. Good start - but think I'd have just paid the grand!
  22. I couldn't work out why he insulated everywhere apart from under the floor particularly given that's where the similar house they featured had failed due to an uninsulated floor. But he had the good sense to accommodate for the system not quite working optimally, and delivered something different and boundary pushing more or less to budget so fair play to him.
  23. Just watched the latest episode and you are all a bit curmudgeonly. Pioneering spirit and a very nice and interesting house that ticked both of their boxes - albeit not sure what happened in the year or so in the middle.
  24. Last I heard you were looking at £1800-2000/m2 for houses, in Scotland at least. Partly a function of high standards and partly due to lots of demand and not a huge deal of main contractor supply.
  25. For space standards and quality, new build social housing will likely be on par with decent quality, main contractor self-build per m2.
