  1. thats because cars have a corrosion protection from bare metal when its welded together of at least 20 different dip treatments before it is finally primed and sealed .then painted but beware any car made in japan etc does not have same treatment as european vehicles cos at 3 years old ,the MOt requirements are such that they are basically scrapped --well actually exported to other rhd countries
  2. I used lexan in my garden room for that reason --but you have to be very careful cleaning it--scratches very easy --so just hose for outside cleaning .
  3. how close are your neighbours ? overspray will go along way and as it will be house paint it stays wet for much longer ,so will stick to what ever it hits -
  4. looking again at your pictures --is that normal glass in that conservatory if not toughened then it would not pass modern build code --looks too large an area you fell through it - it cuts your head off just be aware of the risk if you got kids etc if i,m seeing it wrong and they are double glazed units --they will be toughened --so ignore me
  5. anyone get a good finish with modern paints that don,t leave brush strokes --I not seen any, which is why quite often they use spray to apply them now
  6. and the reason you use oil based paints is it feeds the wood --acrylic shit don,t --it sits on the top same test again --if you can wash your brushes out in water --its not oil based
  7. looking at it there is sod all paint on it or you would not see the grain of the wood -,so should be easy to take it off my dad was master painter and decorator and the time it takes to do a proper job is a lot knotting ,then primer coats ,then under coats sanding as required and only then top coat which is why for me personally i would never have wooden anything outside if possible --the wood is rubbish to start with the modern paints are crap compared to old types , they don,t last even when you spent all that time and money . by the time you add up all the materials and labour costs -cheaper to rip out and fit something else .and have no maintainence for 20 years get a house with 100 year old woodwork that is still sound --then that might be worth it --but on modern wood --not me but that just my view
  8. if good tiles batons you should see the treatment all the way through when you cut them and i hope you not using one of the water based preservatives --they don,t last any time at all . eg --do you wash your brush out in water ? they are really paint not a preservative-no matter what it says on the tin good old Eu and EPA --have stopped us using most of the real old fashioned types which worked old engine oil was the favorite round here with gardeners -no cost and last a long time and acts ass weed + bug killer where it drops off under the fence LOL
  9. modern wood is so unseasoned its nearly still growing -- to be fair it was probably the cheapest stuff he could find + not even treated or it would not be showing so light a colour-- its just crap these days really pisses me off half the so called treated wood when cut it you can the "treatment" only goes in about 3mm and it was probably wet when done --so that has been dipped not proper pressure treated which would force it right through small section wood like that --bean counters again saving on the cost of treatment fluid and when the moisture drys out of center --it shinks proper treated timber should dimensionally stable when you get it last proper treated timber i got was 100mm square decking post --it was treated all the way through ,which i used to make a summer room frame
  10. the answer is to make yourself a registered charity -purpose for looking after the kids then its all tax deductable. LOL
  11. looks like he is on the side of the poor people buying the house and not the baby boomers cashing in on years of house price increases
  12. could happen .but market will always control prices -so the seller who is making a big chunk on what he paid is better fixed to pay it really-. buyer could end putting it into the mortgage --so then he pays interest on it as well
  13. think you will find with your durisol you don,t need anything like that , its so rough its pefect for render of any sort to stick too scratch coat+finish -- job done
  14. might it be easier just to get it curved with parrallel sides -dig it in then trim upper edge with a plasma cutter /grinder /jigsaw when in postion?
  15. surely this should be your prime goal -- to address the reasons for condensation first -
  16. interesting -- so does that mean i could build a few like this and use them as holiday lets? as long as sewage etc is bc approved
  17. probably all of it --just message me when you have details of what you got and price what type is it Ihave some galvanised kwikstage already with galv metal boards
  18. I would not skimp on the sound proofing or insulation if just single skin wall and the 100mm stud frame must not touch or be fixed to party wall or it will transit sound .
  19. will be in the market for that scaffolding -message me when you decide with price
  20. Ive given up trying to work out reasons planning give for refusal sometimes a man had a plot with slope on it --wanted to build an earth sheltered eco house NO- build a normal scottish type long house on the flat bit was the reply the way he wanted to do it --you would not have seen the house at all so go figure that one out
  21. you could set in studs before pouring the walls for attaching things outside of render? fit plenty and cut of flush what you don,t need? hardly a big deal holes in concrete with modern drills to fit a facia board to mount things any way you could fit it before render -and render up to edge ?
  22. hard to justify GSHP in uk with us not getting very low continual winter temps ,extra expense etc IMHO
  23. very reliably --glass flows -look at windows in a very old house will be thicker at the bottom
  24. my thoughts have always been that untill we get orbital manufacturing plants --where energy from sun is much better and being able manufacture in a near vacum --then we will not get these technolgies at cheap enough price /carbon offset
  25. so how much £ of mains electricity can these things hold --assume 9.6kw 4 stack system ? probably looking at it wrong --but at 15p per kw thats = £1.44 of electricity ? £3k =seems a lot to invest to save the occasional use of it? correct my thinking please you could buy a good stand generator for that ,if its power cuts thats the problem
