  1. Just had a play with it for our build. It is within phpp ball park on heat losses but massively over on cost, seems odd.
  2. Cripes is it nine years already?
  3. That is what I thought but zooming in you can see that it is not - looks like either nutserts, see below, or a bolt with the head on the wall side of the board, which is why I asked.
  4. What a great video, watched couple of others and wonder how secure our locks really are? Eeeeek
  5. Looking good, how are the pipe stands from the top tundish fixed to the ply wall?
  6. Don't worry the Chinese have done AI with a fraction, allegedly, of the energy needed by the US systems so we can look forward to fewer emissions coming our way from China perhaps.
  7. We have zender ones fully adjustable flow and don't need any fixing they grip the plenum pipe. https://www.international.zehnder-systems.com/en/comfortable-indoor-ventilation/products/air-diffusers
  8. I believe you can, I am sure I saw it done on one of the TV build programmes (Grand Designs or Building the Dream) but it won't be cheap.
  9. Yes that's because Google is bigger than any spell check and it knows how the planets dyslexic people ask questions and what they really mean, really.
  10. Dyslexic and spell check are good friends sometimes Yes - don't I know it. Took me 5 goes to get my English O level.
  11. Payback time can be worked out in a variety of ways. Try net present value and see how it comes out or real rate of return is another option.
  12. That would be an ecumenical matter then. "Rectorial: relating to a rector, which can be the head of a university or school, or a member of the clergy" oh I see, rhetorical would work butter there.
  13. Where is the sensor, I dimly recall it has to be no more than 300mm above the floor.
  14. You will need a survey to either way so get some quotes before completion if you can then get it done afterwards. Make it independent of any contractor.
  15. It is amazing what @Onoff can find buried in his garden, Still Kent is a bit like that we have an old one with a structural lid, thanks goodness, under our drive I keep throwing stuff in through the manhole and it just keeps subsiding away of not sure how big it is. I do know it is bypassed now to the main sewer and we have lived here for 30 years so unlikely to be anything dangerous alive down there!
  16. Nope, as I understand it provided they are temporary there is no issue.
  17. That is a key motivation for me.
  18. Yes but you must realise that we have a better class of excreta here in Kent, so much less work to process and they need to keep the price of water down to remain competitive - we mostly drink Champagne.
  19. Curiously since seeing that Sounthern Water have been granted a 50% hike in our water bills I have been looking at doing something similar. Perhaps not 4000l but probably 2000l I can cut our bills massively given our rainfall and roof area it should work for us.
  20. +1 for Norrsken here, great job and great service.
  21. Are they inward opening or outward is the large flat side on the inside then?
  22. We designed ours to have the ProClima Tescon Profil tape on the frame face 10mm and then hidden by 12.5mm Plaster board, to be fair we also asked the window company to fit the tape on the outer of the frame but they said they would not do it because it would get damaged in the fit.
  23. Welcome to THE forum for people like us! What is your build method, Brick & Block/ Timber frame / ICF / SIP / .....?
  24. Yes and in some senses this is natural because the world is getting more complex with myriad new technologies being pressed into service for our delight (not always). This has two effects, firstly it means that the spread of jobs gets wider and so more specialised. If you think of a small circle's circumference and then about the span of a human mind you might get round a proportion of it but as that circle gets bigger with increasing technologies so the human span gets to be a smaller proportion. Secondly because technology is growing so fast you cannot expect your Granny to have much, if any, real understanding of it let alone ways of navigating through it this does not diminish their ability to be wise. In my view to cope with the increasing complexity tacit knowledge can be boiled down to a simple set of what I call bumper stickers. They work everywhere, not just on bumpers: Everything is a system. (Input / Process / Output) Everything is connected to everything else. (A change anywhere makes changes everywhere even if imperceptibly small.) Those who neglect History are destined to repeat it. (Learn from the past.) We are where we are. (Look forward to the future while learning from the past and keep moving.) The S curve is the pattern of everything. (New ideas come, grow and slow because their carrying capacity is exhausted - be on the look out for the next S curve.) Investment challenges change. (The more you put into an idea / thing / approach the more you get wedded to it - keep an open mind or run into a wall!) Thank the early adopters because they allowed you not to be one. (So learn to take a punt on new ideas sometimes and bask in the adulation!) Thought for the day x 7
