  1. Why not, it is anonymous and it gives the response a load of contextual information although I suspect most people on here fall into a small set of common socioeconomic groups. Also vouchers and other tiny incentives - larger ones would stretch ethical rules and finances, are commonplace these days. All the relevant details of the study were posted with it and there was / is no compulsion to take part. Finally and perhaps most interesting point is that you (we all) already give this information to the world, well the tech giants, in our social media, online purchasing, lifestyle and public demeanor. It's just that researchers have to ask for it because the tech giants don't give it away. All that said scepticism is a useful trait, it often keeps us safe.
  2. Welcome to THE forum for people like us. Not my bag but others will be along shortly.
  3. You can't do this in England anymore, they got fed up will false alarms, you have to use an alarm monitoring company who text you when there is a problem, you can then decide what to do about it. The exception is the panic alarm when they will call to check you meant it and if you did they will call the police.
  4. You are right to want to avoid WiFi cameras. Round here when the scallywags want to do mischief they first jam the WiFi
  5. You will need to push the council to deal with this as unless you have very deep pockets they are the only way forward. I suspect that the owner will try to argue it is reinstatement so dig out any old pictures that show how high the old wall was OR that this roof is temporary cover while they build the new one underneath but this does not explain the new blocks. On your deeds does it say who owns the wall? You need to be aware that in planning law you are not entitled to a view but you are entitled to object to anybody building in it.
  6. Been there, done it, got the tee shirt, still paying off the credit card (not) but at least she lives there now and not here - love her to bits though. Welcome to THE forum for people like us.
  7. Make the application and be realistic about expectations. We got what we asked for on a single phase, 6kW. Pretty sure we would not have got 12kW but optimistically we might. The only risk is that they worry about future applications so squeeze yours at this stage to protect the medium term.
  8. Is the material magnetic? It looks like oxidised Aluminium to me, so won't be galvanised steel.
  9. Calibration not needed, I did ours with an dust extractor unit a relatively cheap anemometer and a length of plastic tube to make a manometer ( I also used a high end differential pressure meter as well but the manometer gave a reliable result.) I got within a few % of the official test. Builhub has an anemometer in its loan system.
  10. Cripes - @ 24.5p per kWh that is approximately £24 a day or close to £700 a month. Something is wrong somewhere - but I guess you know that.
  11. Not really because the ring system is 24V at 500mA AC by the looks of it. Your transformer is 8V at 1.00A so neither has the power output needed (12W needed 8W available) or the voltage (24V needed 8V available.)
  12. Yes - assuming it was done in some way under the MCS scheme as that requires the installers to account for DHW.
  13. I thought the fitted appliances where VAT allowable - have I got that wrong?
  14. Welcome to THE forum for people like us. People will be along shortly I am confident @Gone West has not dissimilar challenges for one.
  15. looks amazing, you are right to be proud.
  16. Is the BTW unit a twin tank or does it do its cleaning in the middle of the night and is this not wasteful?
  17. Real curved ball that one.the
  18. Great to see you back, sadly Hertfordshire, " it is so long since one has been in Harfordshire." is not my patch so can't help on the ask.
  19. Yep I will dig it out.
  20. Yes I built it using my go to device - the RPi pico, it worked. Logs to a MQTT dashboard- that was as far as I got. Only any good for one way flows though.
  21. We have one of these: https://www.offgridrenewables.co.uk/products/growatt-spm-e-single-phase-smart-meter?variant=49293197705484&country=GB&currency=GBP&gad_source=1 it does need to be spliced into the supply but it has RS485 connection so does not need cloud connectivity.
  22. Welcome to THE forum for people like us.
  23. We have always had Neff and we like the slide-away feature on our oven. We have done the rounds for the new build and have come down again on Neff for the Hob (integrated extractor), Cookers & dishwashers. We like our Bosch fridge/freezer at millstone manor and so we are having one of those in the new place. The washing machine has been a harder choice and still to be made. All our appliances are built in so that also squeezes the options a bit.
